View 5 RepliesI am trying to activate the infrared sensor, but there is no "advanced" tab in the BIOS.
Is there a trick to getting to this tab, or getting it to appear? I have tried pressing the "m" key instead of F2 when the POST screen is on, but nothing happens; it just goes on to boot the OS.
I just bought used Aspire 3680 laptop, I was told it only had harddrive problem,
however It have few more problems.
1. it won't save bios settings.
2. it won't always boot sometime it takes 3-4 tries before it will boot.
3. when it finally boot it will randomly freeze after 2-10 minutes.
I try new harddrive, reset the memory, unplug the battery.
memtest shows the memory is fine.
So I have bought this Acer laptop for 1 year, and it's BIOS came with V1.0 didn't have UEFI setting, the default is LEGACY. After trying updating that BIOS version to V1.13 successfully, I still don't see the UEFI setting, when I check in a software called HWiNFO64 Program, it says my laptop BIOS is capable of UEFI BIOS. So my main questions are....How can I have UEFI setting in my BIOS? What should I do?Â
My specs: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, Nvidia Geforce GT 640M 2GB, RAM 8GB, HDD 750GB, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (Will upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 if I can change my BIOS to UEFI boot).

I think they are not saved properly when you change it in Vaio Control Center.
My SR's fan is running nearly permanently though I'm only surfing, Office-ing, etc....
I have the newest european SR5 with Win7, bought yesterday.
I have three user profiles in my Compaq Presario CQ-42, one is administrator and others are "Other User". When I fisrt saw the synaptics touch pad settings window through my first "Other User" profile 1, in Mouse Properties->Device Settings->Synaptics LuxPad V7.4->Settings, all the options in this window were available for selection and no one was diabled. Now when I go to "Administrator" Profile, Some of the options in this settings window are disabled and appear to be partly hidden. Like the option "Enable Pinch Zoom in Pinch Zoom section" and "Enable Pivot Rotate in Rotating" appears to be hidden/disabled.Â
For verifying this, I created the another "Other user" profile 2 but no success and I found the same problem here also. I also tried to unistall the synaptics driver several times from all the profiles but every time I re-installed them and checked to get the same result. The settings were only accessible for "Other User" Profile 1 each time and were disable for Administrator profile and "Other User" Profile 2. I can produce the snaps of same if required.
ok upgraded to win8 worjed for a long time but then i accidet changed path in advanced system setting. What is the C: right path please it wont let me login i login and then it says sighing out....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to windows 8.1 on my Acer Aspire and unfortunately since then, Dolby Advanced Audio V2 refuses to work. I have uninstalled my audio drivers, and re-installed with the latest versions, I have uninstalled DAAV2 and re-installed, and it still does not work. I'm not really sure where to go from here. It launches properly and you can turn it on and off, but ultimately, it does not show any difference between having it on anymore or off. As well as the fact that the little panel you open where it shows the bars while you play music, doesn't move at all. I use my Acer Aspire mainly for music and youtube videos and the like, so this is rather important to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. I don't know if it's because I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but I used that previously when I need to go to safe mode. Suddenly it disappeared. I can only pick two options, "Continue to Windows 8.1" and "Turn off the PC".
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there any modded bios available with some advanced "oc" features. I am trying to undervolt cpu from bios, shut down one core, slow down clock, change fan from silent to normal mode... etc... (This wouldn't be too much to ask from regular desktop board)
Until I boot and start windows my cpu is already too hot. (my notebook is ok, just cpu was upgraded and it's overheats a bit.)
Does this original bios has some secret menus to tweak those settings ?
I just upgraded my 5315 to 2 gigs ram. Now I would like to increase my video memory to more than 8 mb. Doesn't seem to be a way to do that.
Now that I have more memory, can I not? use more of it for my graphics. 8 meg isn't much memory
I have a Ideapad z510.
How I can update the BIOS so I can be able to access advanced options such as memory config, enabling turbo boost, overlocking, changing the boot order (HDD, CDROM, USB, etc)
Â
Currently the BIOS is a very simple and doens't give me advanced options and information.
I have a Gateway NE71B a friend gave me and it has Windows 8 installed. I had to do some repair to it after a drink was spilled into it but I cleaned it out and its been fine, sorta...
Â
Resuming from sleep doesn't work. It is just black. I have to shutit down and that works fine. It appears that a BIOS upgrade is needed and I downloaded the latest BIOS and tried to update it. It uses some 'InsideH2O' update app. Well it goes to reboot and when it tries to apply the BIOS, it keeps saying that it is an invalid firmware image. I've verifiedd that this is the correct BIOS file. I tried other BIOS versions and none will apply, always getting the error. I've researched the utility, extracted the config and BIOS. I'm tempted to tell it to write without verify (its that fustrating).

One option, that seems to saved most people is to disable Secure Boot. No matter what, I cannot do this. It never saves. I followed the official steps of powering off, then power on, set the admin password, disable Secure Boot, save and exit. Secure Boot always stays enabled. I've tried probably 30 times, 10 different ways and it just won't stick. I also noticed that I cannot change other settings in the BIOS. I can set some to a different value but they always revert back. I cannot get the function keys setting to stay on Function Keys. It always defaults back to Special Keys after reboot. Same thing goes with enabling F12 for boot menu.Â
Â
I've tried removing the coin battery, which has a charge, shorting out the contacts holding it for about a minute, removed power battery and power cable, letting it sit but still no good. I've also tried removing the hard drive. Where is the BIOS data being stored and can it be wiped?
Â
I've been considering getting an Acer laptop but this is starting to steer me away. Definately not getting a Gateway.
Laptop still under warranty. I recently had a motherboard and HDD replacement. I wanted to install Windows myself, but the BIOS was set to UEFI, and I couldn't seem to boot off of a USB drive. So I switched it to Legacy, booted from the pendrive, and installed Windows just fine.
Â
For whatever reason, I went back to try and change the setting to UEFI. Now the laptop switches on, but refuses to boot. I get a black screen, with no logo or any prompt whatsoever to access the BIOS.Â
I read a bit and seems I need to remove the BIOS battery, let the memory clear itself to reset BIOS settings to default, and try again? If it matters, I re-installed Windows 7 64-bit.

My only problem is its temperatures from the first day i bought it - especially during summer months.
I found some threads that mention downvoltaging as a possible solution and o downloaded all the appropriate software. The thing is that my CPU temperature remains at 84 - 90 C and as all tutorias agree i need to make experiments to see over which voltage my laptop is not crashing and having blue screens. Has anyone set up a similar laptop (or a laptop with similar configuration) to tell me the voltages used to make it run?

I have tried running windows 8 in safe mode as well as pressing alt-f10 on start up. Nothing seems to be working. Is there any way I can reset this short of using a pre-made recovery disc?
I've asked about this before, but can't find my original post. My netbook was working fine until suddenly I lost connectivity. A popup window over the connection logo in the tray--bars with a red X over them--says network proxy settings can't be detected. When I click on the little wrench icon, it also says detected, but then there's a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.
I tried the fixes in the troubleshooting netbooks area of this site, but they didn't work. Clicked on the connection logo, it says Windows couldn't automatically detect this network's proxy settings. Under detection details, it gives the file name 1A40D7A3-7CDE-40F4-195E4ADD6327.Diagnose.Admin.0.etl for network diagnostics log; for other networking configuration and logs, it's NetworkConfiguration.cab .Â
Â
When I logon, the popup says it can't connect to System Event Notification Service; also says review System Event log. I've tried looking for those, but can't find them.
Â
Tried chat, but it timed out. Is it free, BTW? I don't have a credit card.
Â
I also get a message saying I need to change my Windows Update settings; when I click on it, I click on the highlighted automatic install, but keep getting this message.
Â
How/why did this happen, and what can I do to fix this as well as prevent this from happening again? I really need to have this issue fixed ASAP.
