View 4 RepliesThis is absolutely crazy. The laptop came back to me in worse shape than it was sent off. C drive was wiped, several very large scratches that were not there before, and the CD drive simply does not work. I tried loading in a CD-R at first, and it didn't recognise it, though it might be the CD. Having the CD in at startup actually slowed down the whole boot sequence immsenely.
Since then I've tried it with several different CDs, DVDs, whatever and none of them work. The DVD drive just chugs a long and never gets anywhere.
I can't afford to send this back to be fixed now because 3 weeks was an insane time for me to be without a laptop. How costly/difficult would it be for me to replace the DVD drive myself?

I have sent an e-mail to Acer but, as I bought my laptop in Dixons (UK retail shop) they told me that I need to speak to the "Tech Guys". These "tech Guys" are.... well...
THICK as S*** and don't usually give you any help whatsoever. Their advice was something like... it is not our fault, contact Microsoft as they are the one who developed W7...?
Anyway, moving forward, my problem is that, since I installed W7 x64 (clean install) the volume throttle does not work. I am unsure what the driver for this function is. I have tried re-installing the Synaptics drive, the Realteck HD drive...
i have just recently installed windows 7 on my acer aspire 4530 and after installation all are working great except for one, my volume wheel control is no longer working, before i installed windows 7 it was working just fine, don't know if im missing a driver or i forgot to set anything

View 5 Replies View Relatedthe volume button,next to the volume slider on my laptop stopped working. After checking postings that I found, was able to resolve the volume on/off issue, by shutting down the PC,unplug and take the battery out and put it back in. I still cannot get the volume slider to work! I can go into the sound mixer and control the volume,but it would be nice to make it work again. I had this problem with the original OS (Vista) and have upgraded to 7 Ultimate and it still continues.

It has the media keys on the left side of the keyboard where i can control the volume, stop, pause etc. I reformatted my machine and reinstalled XP Pro. When i use the media keys there is no display on the screen of what i am doing. What i mean is before if i turned the volume up or down it would display on the screen and you would see like a volume bar moving up or down. How do i get that back?

I have noticed my 6920g's fan to go annoying loud when playing Warcraft, which indeed is a pretty graphic instensive game depending where you are in WoW.
My question is to anyone else who owns a 6920g and plays WoW, do you have the same fan problems as me? Sure I understand it isnt going to be silent but recently it has seemed to get worse and it's really doing my nut in.
Comments and thoughts, obviously welcome.

I've just bought the wife a new laptop and it's a 6920g (same as mine lol) with exactly the same spec as mine! but what im wondering is, would it be posible to somehow make a mirror image of my hd and transfer it to her new one? im thinking of using e recovery manager and send her com my user created back up image and then restore it on her side, but im not sure if this would work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Windows 7 and everything seems fine, apart from a couple of minor things. When I had the original Vista installation when I pressed the mute button on my media control panel it lit up blue, since the upgrade the light doesn't respond.
Also when I turn on the volume on the media control panel the volume changes but I no longer get the graphic on the screen telling me what number its at.
I've got an Aspire 7730 which is about a month old. Everything is working fine except the subwoofer seems to be very weak. You need to put your ear up against it to hear anything at all so it's more or less useless as is. My brother's 5920 has a very good subwoofer and the sound output is excellent from it.
Would anyone know if this is normal for the 7730 or do I have a faulty subwoofer?

But the volume is not working right.
I just got my Aspire 6930G yesterday and noticed something which may be a problem. Above the keyboard there is a row of blue lights and buttons for multimedia controls like volume, play, etc. The buttons light up and work fine. My question is on the volume section.
It looks like this:

The minus button turns down the volume and the plus button raises the volume. The vertical bars in the middle look like they are supposed to light up to indicate the volume level, but they do not light up. Does anyone know if they are just for decoration or if they are actually supposed to work? If they are supposed to light up, is it possible this is controlled by a setting someplace? I looked in the likely places (Keyboard, Sounds, etc.) but didn't find anything.
Everything else with the volume works fine: the controls make it louder and softer, I see the on-screen display of the volume when I press the +/- buttons, etc.

Any 6920G owner have their hard drive access light stuck on "on" for about 30 seconds or so and have their laptops freeze for this duration? Freeze as in as soon as I click any window, it turns white. This happens every now and then, doesn't matter what I'm doing.

What's wrong? is there a lock on it or something?
I've found most of the drivers for xp64bit but i read that tuba speaker doesn't work well (even if you install the corrent drivers from acer) and that's very dissapointing...

But can anybody explain to me, why i can get the following temps (tested separately)
cpu, max before downclocking:
realtemp: 91°
hw monitor: 76°
gpu, stock powermizer on
gpu-z 73° (stopped myself still no downclocking)
But then when i start playing cod5 my cpu starts downclocking @ 58° (hw monitor), while GPU @ 63°....
Why does this only happen while gaming when it seems that both cpu and gpu can handle much higher temps?
Combined it should reach even higher temps but it doesn't because it downclocks?
Is there something else that can force the cpu to downclock?
I've got the acer aspire 6920G, and when i play world of warcraft my fps drops to 7 in 25man raids. I play with really low options.
I've always had low fps, i tried installing windows Xp, vista and now windows 7 and nothing helps.
Now i must say, win7 had the best result. My fps increased in major cities, but in raids it's still the same thing.
I defragged my HD, I use a 64bit to use my full ram, I run no background programs, all options are on low, and i still get 7fps.
I'm brand new to laptops and just bought an Acer Inspire 6920G and love it!
The only problem is that it came with Vista and keeps giving me problems. So i got out my windows xp cd and tried to reformat it. But after i select to install XP, i get a screen saying that it was unable to find a hard disc and that i might need to run a setup or diagnostic. My computer shows an ACER(C) drive and then a DATA(D) drive, but my windows xp doesn't see it

i've just got an Acer Aspire 6920G and i have a question about the RAM.
The sticker on the palmrest says it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, as does the box. But the system information on the computer says 3GB, CPUz says it has 4GB.
I've opened it up and there are definitely 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3 RAM, so why does the Windows system info say it only has 3GB?

I've refreshed my bios to 1.07 and I have tried 1.06 and 1.10.
I am not sure if they are official release version, but since I've refreshed my bios with these versions, my computer fails.
In the past, I could use recovery DVD to restore my system, and audio drive work fine, very high quality. Now it's gone, even I use recovery DVD, my audio drive does not works fine.
It sounds like a realtek HD public drive (low sound quality), and I cannot use plug-in microphone when 5.1 Dolby effect opened.
