it looks like they have only a 2.0 and 2.4ghz cpus. That means no new Penryns in there. At best the 2.0ghz could be what.. a T7300? My guess is that it's a T5750 or maybe T5800. Yes? The 2.4ghz means it's prob a T8300 maybe? They should have offered the P8400 on entry level the Macbook, especially with the $300 price increase. I mean the $1000 Macbook has a T8100 doesn't it? So they raised the price $300 and put an inferior CPU in it.
For the Macbook Pro starts at 2.4ghz which is prob the T8300, or maybe even a P8600? The 2.53ghz is likely a P8700? 2.66 P9600?
Have Apple even thought about people maybe changing the battery on the new Apple Macbooks at all when it's worn out?
It must have been their dumbest move ever that you can't replace the battery and made it integrated
How much does Apple charge you when it's time to change the battery when it's old and not working anymore?
buying a macbook pro and I wanted to know how reliable the machines are.
I assume they're excellent considering the 4 digit price tag.
What exact CPUs are Apple using on their MacBooks?
All I can see is that its a Core2Duo 2.5GHz, 2.8GHz ....
I'm thinking of purchasing a new macbook with the mini display port and upon research I have gotten reall confused about cables that go into it.
The one I am looking at is the cheaper mini display to dvi-d, from what I have gathered it does not support a res higher than 1920x1200 and will not support a dvi to vga port, but what I am really worried about is will it support a dual monitor set up (one screen the laptop screen and a standard other screen that does not have a higher resolution.
So will I be fine with that port of do I have to buy the really expensive one to do so all these reviews have me really confused.
Once you get used to surfing the web and working on these Macbooks I find them pretty amazing. The 4 finger swipe where you can just switch between applications and screens is a really nice feature to have compared to having to move the mouse to the corners on Windows 7. For basic web surfing and switching between applications and browsers I find this feature really great to have
When someone walks in and you have something open you simply swipe 4 fingers up and your current application that is open just vanishes like magic 4 fingers back down and it comes back down again
How are you liking your 4 finger swipe feature on your Macbooks?
My friend has a 15'' unibody Macbook Pro. He's thinking about getting a cooling pad for it, and he asked me for suggestions. I said that I really couldn't advise him as Macbooks aren't built like regular laptops with the fans on the bottom. Even still, would a traditional active cooling pad lower temperatures by any significant amount, or would it not be worth it. I would usually advise anyone who asks to get a large all metal cooling pad, but if it's not going to do that much, I don't want him to waste his money.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really want to buy a black one as I prefer a matte finish and it wouldn't discolor, but I want it new and I cannot find any here in Canada, so I will have to buy a white one. This is going to be my very first mac and to me it's a lot of money... I hope it will be worth it (I'm a little nervous about the switch) .
View 10 Replies View RelatedWas toying with the idea of getting a 15" MacBook Pro, but as OneNote is a major application with me, dual-booting with Windows 7 like I'm running now, or using Parallels, is required.
What kind of battery life are you guys getting with Parallels / Fusion (or running Windows natively via Boot Camp)?
i own a SZ71WN/C that comes with a black carbon fibre lid.
I want to upgrade this to a premium carbon fibre lid.
The ones in the UK for the SZ1-5 are a little bit cheaper. The North American models did not have an SZ5/X model.
Basically i would like to know were the designs for the SZ1-7 premium models any different? Or do the SZ6/X-SZ7/X models lids designed differently and if so how? Are they stronger etc?
Would one even fit? I think all the 13.3 LED models share the same screens so it should fit. If you have owned a SZ1-5/X and a SZ6/7/X how did they look to you?
I cannot find anything about a possible difference in patterns.
If you know about this could you link for me the differences in patterns between both of these models SZ1-5 SZ6-7/X..............
I am still using Tiger, 10.4 on my MBP.
I have recently been having issues with my optical drive. I was burning a cd for a friend and it would not burn it or pop it out when I asked it to. I had to re-start while holding down the spacebar (or mouse button?) in order for the cd to come out. I forget which method I used, but using terminal did not work nor did the eject key.
It has also done this while running iDVD to watch a movie. The iDVD interface will not work and produces the spinning beachball of death and then I cannot eject the DVD. I either have to leave it alone for the night or restart the computer. Only then will iDVD stop acting up so I can eject the DVD.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it all to blame on the optical drive? I just went to the Apple Genius Bar a few weeks ago for a new battery. I hoping my MBP isn't falling apart.
Well what can we use it for? I want to get a gaming head set but the ones I see are not the analog/digital optical port?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a previous gen Macbook Pro, which was a great machine and I'd go for Apple again, but I kind of dislike that they stopped selling laptops and started selling fancy mirrors :S
So anyway, I always liked Sony and now there are 2 options I particularly like:
1. Vaio SR with ATI Radeon 4570, which should deliver similar gaming performance to my MBP
2. Vaio FW with some series 4000 graphic card (is it 4650 or 4670? would love to see 4850, but that's ain't gonna happen...)
So, SR is small, sturdy, portable and should deliver some decent gaming performance (having the option to play Dawn of War II, Demigod, GRID on a laptop as portable as this would be AWESOME).
What about FW? With the better series 4000 ATI card, it should pack some punch (not to mention full HD)! The main question that bothers me is: is the build quality as solid as SR/Z/TT series? I think all those have carbon fibre casing, and are really top notch. Does FW belong to this group?
Does the Aluminum macbook have optical out? Would the Aluminum macbook be horrible for any type of audio recording/playback. Such as djing, because of the lack of firewire?

View 10 Replies View RelatedOne of my headphone jacks on my M1530 is broken and needs to be replaced. Are those part of a separate board that can be hooked into the motherboard without the need of any soldering? I'd like to get this issue fixed, and don't want to send it into dell depot for repair. So if it's just a board that needs to be replaced, I'd like to replace it myself. If so, what would the name of this board be? I haven't had much luck looking through the forum or online.

I tried to watch a movie with a friend yesterday, and we had to share a single pair of headphones.
Why have two headphone jacks? Am I missing something?
How do I get both headphone jacks to be active at once?
With the track record of this computer, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something wrong. 1 screen, two keyboards, a palm rest, and a DVD drive have been replaced already... all within a month.
I got a system exchange for my inspiron 1520 that had clicking/popping noises anytime audio was played, and my new m1530 has the exact same issue. (What I hear is a clicking/popping right before audio is played, and right after it stops for all my audio players. This also happens when it is paused.) I am wondering if this is just bad luck or if this is some mass hardware issue. So I pose the question, do you guys get clicking/popping on your 1520/1530's?
How to reproduce clicking/popping:
1) Plug in headphones
2)Turn volume down to less than 15% of the max volume (any higher and you risk ear damage)
3) Close media players, etc (not just pause, close them).
4) To try to standardize the tests, try running sounds directly from windows:
Right click the speaker icon in your tray, hit sounds. Select one of the sounds and try using the test button. The most noticeable clicking/popping are at the bottom under "windows speech recognition" as the pop at the end is about 1/2 second delayed on some of them. Device connect, device disconnect, and the logon/logoff sounds are also very noticeable.
What is odd for me is that each sound has different clicks/pops, and that they are consistent for each one. I also don't think its my headphones either, as I have three pairs (One Sennheiser, one creative, one sony) and they each produce the same clicking/popping pattern for each sound.
On my HP DV5-1015TX I notice that there are 2 audio out jacks in the front.
However my speakers have only connector that I plug into either one of these. This works but I am am wondering if there would be any loss of audio quality when used this way (maybe surrond sound or something)? OR is the second audio-out an extra connection to say headphones?
Does the small panel below the touch pad with the headphone jacks and power lights come off or is it permanently attached to the whole bottom part of the computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a new used laptop but there is no sound at all, the earphone jacks don't work nor the speakers. The mouse pad does not work well either, and, I cannot use my Logitech mouse via. usb port? I am getting ready to re-install because I though this might solve the problem. I tried installing some drivers for AC97 Sound Controller but that did not work either. The drivers would not install, then I uninstalled AC97 in Add-Remove Programs by accident, I was trying to Update it. Then I installed another AC97 from download.net. After this I tried again to Remove and re-install a newer driver but it would not uninstall or install.
View 6 Replies View Relatedjust recently discovered this new driver for the 1340 (should work for the 1640 as well) and it brings A LOT of new gestures/features.
I'm not going to list out all of the new features/gestures you can do, but I've taken a screen shot of the configuration window for the touchpad to give you an idea of what it provides.
Also, I know you can enable some of these things with 3rd party apps, but now its integrated so if you're still using the Dell Driver, you're missing out!
You can get the driver here: [url]
I recently (last month) sent my IdeaPad Y410p in to Lenovo for repairs due to the laptop not turning on, or repeatedly restarting at the BIOS screen. The laptop was repaired by Lenovo (they replaced the motherboard), and returned it to me. The laptop has worked great sincce then, except that the two USB ports on the right side and the headphone and microphone jacks do not work. I have reinstalled the audio drivers, twice, but have not reinstalled the chipset drivers at all, as I don't want to screw around with those untiol I no more about what I should do.

I just got a brand new customized Sony VGN-Z890FKB. The sales representative of the website where I bought it from, states all their models come with the Premium Carbon Fibre lid, however I find it very hard to tell the difference between the two.
Nowhere it is indicated that this one has the carbon fibre lid. On the side of the box it says B (Black) so I got confused.
The lid is black indeed, if I look close enough I see small silverish specs mixed with the black, even on the bottom side of the laptop. The palmrest/keyboard area is a darker black without silverish specs in it.
A friend of mine has a Sony SZ and there you can tell it is a black Carbon Fibre lid (black with a hint of purple in it - when you angle the laptop from one light source to the other + you somewhat see horizontal lines on the lid of the Sony SZ).
Also if you look carefully on the sonystyle site, you see those same horizontal-like lines on the Carbon Fibre Black lid of the Sony Z contrary to the Black plastic lid.
How can one tell whether his Sony laptop has a carbon fibre or black plastic lid?
I'm an old TR and now a TZ owner, and my TZ is awesome in the fact that it could be spec'd with a 2nd HDD, replacing the DVD drive (which i used once in a blue moon, and have an external for that)
I have the 64GB SSD and now a 500GB HDD, so it's perfect, fast SSD for the OS and shed-loads of space for all my photos and films n stuff.
So since i now want to upgrade to something with more power, and the new Z looking so awesome(!), I'm hoping they'll offer the same 2nd HDD option.
I really can't express how useful and sensible this option is (especially for my usage)
i did c a Optical Bay Hard Drive Caddy from this web [url]but i dont know if that's work for my hdx 16, anyone tried?it that sata 1 or 2?
