Apple :: Does The Newer White Macbooks Discolor - Are They Easily Scratched

Jan 1, 2009

I really want to buy a black one as I prefer a matte finish and it wouldn't discolor, but I want it new and I cannot find any here in Canada, so I will have to buy a white one. This is going to be my very first mac and to me it's a lot of money... I hope it will be worth it (I'm a little nervous about the switch) .

Apple :: Newer Macbook Slower Than Old One

Apr 12, 2010

I switched from a Macbook 4,1
2.0ghz 800mhz FSB with 2gb of RAM (667mhz) x3100 to a newer macbook 5,1, same specs but 1066mhz FSB and the new nvidia card.

I used the migration assistant tool to transfer all account,settings and files to the new mac.

My computer seems to lag more when opening Word, Excel, Powerpoint 2008 and having multiple tabs on firefox and ichat, mail.app, and icalendar open.

My old computer did not lag this much, only a bit when opening one of the office suites but not while switching.

Shouldn't my newer computer with a faster bus speed be performing better?

Does the fact that I migrated settings and stuff affect performance? (same reason a clean install is better than an upgrade?)

Apple :: CPUs In New Macbooks

Jan 11, 2009

it looks like they have only a 2.0 and 2.4ghz cpus. That means no new Penryns in there. At best the 2.0ghz could be what.. a T7300? My guess is that it's a T5750 or maybe T5800. Yes? The 2.4ghz means it's prob a T8300 maybe? They should have offered the P8400 on entry level the Macbook, especially with the $300 price increase. I mean the $1000 Macbook has a T8100 doesn't it? So they raised the price $300 and put an inferior CPU in it.

For the Macbook Pro starts at 2.4ghz which is prob the T8300, or maybe even a P8600? The 2.53ghz is likely a P8700? 2.66 P9600?

Apple :: Battery On New Macbooks

Apr 27, 2009

Have Apple even thought about people maybe changing the battery on the new Apple Macbooks at all when it's worn out?

It must have been their dumbest move ever that you can't replace the battery and made it integrated

How much does Apple charge you when it's time to change the battery when it's old and not working anymore?

Apple :: Macbooks And Dual Monitor

Jul 21, 2009

I'm thinking of purchasing a new macbook with the mini display port and upon research I have gotten reall confused about cables that go into it.

The one I am looking at is the cheaper mini display to dvi-d, from what I have gathered it does not support a res higher than 1920x1200 and will not support a dvi to vga port, but what I am really worried about is will it support a dual monitor set up (one screen the laptop screen and a standard other screen that does not have a higher resolution.

So will I be fine with that port of do I have to buy the really expensive one to do so all these reviews have me really confused.

Apple :: 4 Finger Swipes On Macbooks

May 4, 2010

Once you get used to surfing the web and working on these Macbooks I find them pretty amazing. The 4 finger swipe where you can just switch between applications and screens is a really nice feature to have compared to having to move the mouse to the corners on Windows 7. For basic web surfing and switching between applications and browsers I find this feature really great to have

When someone walks in and you have something open you simply swipe 4 fingers up and your current application that is open just vanishes like magic 4 fingers back down and it comes back down again

How are you liking your 4 finger swipe feature on your Macbooks?

Apple :: Effectiveness Of Cooling Pads On Unibody Macbooks

Jan 10, 2010

My friend has a 15'' unibody Macbook Pro. He's thinking about getting a cooling pad for it, and he asked me for suggestions. I said that I really couldn't advise him as Macbooks aren't built like regular laptops with the fans on the bottom. Even still, would a traditional active cooling pad lower temperatures by any significant amount, or would it not be worth it. I would usually advise anyone who asks to get a large all metal cooling pad, but if it's not going to do that much, I don't want him to waste his money.

Sony :: Fan Easily Accessible

Jul 23, 2009

The only thing that's stopping me from buying one is access to the fan. I live in a very dusty place and I clean my Asus fan every 2 or 3 months to keep it clean. So how easy is it to get to the fan of Sony laptops? I realize it won't be as easy as an Asus, I've also tried opening Lenovo laptops where you have to detach the palmrest and the lift the keyboard which is a little annoying but still fine. My worst nightmare is my friends Fujitsu where I can't seem to open at all. I'm looking at the SR or the CS models atm.

HP/Compaq :: Presario F756NR Easily Overheating

Nov 30, 2009

My laptop has a tendency to have it's fan going like an airplane all the time. Simple flash games can raise my core temperature through the roof. It will often (every couple of days) it likes to heat up so much that it shuts down, even while just browsing on the internet. I've read some things online and this seems to be a fairly common problem in the F700 series. I've had this laptop for about a year and I think that cleaning is overdue. Does anyone have a tutorial for opening up a laptop of close to the same model?

Dell :: Scratched 14z Lid

Aug 16, 2009

My girlfriend mindlessly put the charger in the same bag as the laptop and it ended up putting some pretty deep scratches in my midnight blue lid.

I would be fine with it if it was just normal wear-and-tear but it really sucks since I literally got the laptop 3 days ago.

My question is if there is anyway to float this by dell and have it covered by the warranty? Or maybe have them send me a replacement lid? I'm still in the 21 day period so I could see about returning it and ordering a new one but I reallllly do not want to do that.

Dell :: Scratched During Manufacturing

Aug 4, 2009

(I've had the laptop for about a week and a half) but there is a scratch (actually looks like a burn/melt) on the top right of the screen, and it's nothing I could have done. It kind of looks like when you peel off a sticker and the glue is still there... I just found it because of the way my lamp is shining off of it and I'm wondering if I should make a big deal about it. Some may call me picky, but when you buy a new laptop, you expect it to be "perfect" and when you find a flaw...

Apple :: Why No Black & White 2 On GMA

It meets the requirements, why won't Feral port it?

Dell XPS L702X :: Flickering White Then Screen Turns White?

Mar 19, 2013

I have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.

I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.

I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.

Dell :: Scratched LCD Covered On Complete Care?

Mar 10, 2010

My laptop LCD has some scratches on it, nothing huge, but still annoying none the less and was caused from other people in my family using my laptop and not cleaning hands etc.

There is also what appears to be something stuck (like a piece of dust or dirt) because I can see it on the screen and then projected back on towards the actual LCD.

Will any of this be covered under my still active complete care warranty? Its an xps 1640.

HP/Compaq :: HP Tech Scratched My Screen During The Repair

Sep 22, 2009

i've just received my repaired dv2310 back from HP due to a motherboard failure. everything is back to normal now.. boots fine, although GPU temp still a little on the hot side. its at 81C now and the only thing i'm doing is typing this message. CPU temp around 55-60C light load. (Turion 64x2 1.6ghz)

but one major issue.. the HP tech SCRATCHED MY SCREEN! theres several nicks on the upper left portion.. its very obvious when i am looking a blank white page..

should i call HP and complain? would there be a case? I did take some pics of the laptop and screen before I shipped it just to prepare for situations like these. so anyone's screens got scratched up and went after HP for a replacement?

Apple :: Updated White Macbook

Loooks like the white Macbook has been updated again. Now it has a 2.13GHz CPU (previously 2GHz), 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM (previously used DDR2 667MHz RAM) and 160GB HD (120GB HD prevously). I'm sure the aluminum updates should get some sort of "bump up" in the near future.

I may just get the 2.0GHz model, update the RAM to 4GB, take out the 120GB HD and put in a 320GB 7200 RPM HD and be done with it.

Apple :: White Macbook 13 - Heat

Jun 27, 2009

a lot of people that owns the white macbook complains that it gets too hot, well the area that gets hot is the gpu and the cpu heatsink.

well i decided to open that baby up and change the thermal compound. from just using it for the past hour it seems to still heat up but at a slower rate and the final temp is noticeablly lower, not to mention that it haven't gone through the break-in phase.

unfortunatly i didn't take any pictures and a lot of people have done this so if you really want to, you can search of it online. but i didn't find some information that can help you make the process easier.

taking off the keyboard cover is pretty easy. after removing the screws make sure you keep track of them, this is the hardest part. the right side does not come out that easier, don't be afraid to bend it a little bit. the trick is try to remove the keyboard ribbon right now if you can't get it completely off, then you don't have to worry about using a bit more force, there's really nothing to keep you back...............
