Apple :: Energy Profiles On Mac OS XMBA Rev B
May 9, 2009
I just purchased a new Macbook Air two days ago and so far everythings be working fine except for fairly average battery life. I am new to Mac's having used Windows my whole life up until now and can't find how to change the energy profile. I've been told you can select this under the battery icon on the top toolbar, however when I click this I can only see "Power Source: ..." with no other options available.
As this website shows: [url] I should be able to switch between 'better battery life', 'nomal', and 'better performance'.

I have a 1 yr old Macbook Unibody (13.3"- Late 2008 model).
I have the 2.4Ghz version.
Anyway, here's what I have:
Original Batt Capacity = 4100mAh.
Current = 3953mAh (can dip to 3800 at times)
Battery Load cycles = 58
I'm currently running on batteries. I only have my browser opened along with some widgets and WIFI. I've taken all energy saving steps as well (lowest possible brightness on screen and keys) Currently sitting on 86% w/ 3 hours left..............

I've been spending some time playing around with all the new Z's power options (which I assume are mostly related to Windows 7), but I find that I like the fact that each of the 3 "modes" can be assigned a different overall profile, with different behaviors whether plugged in or on battery.
So I can use "Auto" mode for daily use (where I'm generally plugged in) with Nvidia graphics and pretty much everything set for good performance without excess heat production. Then if I simply unplug to do some surfing for a couple hours in front of the couch, "Auto" drops down to the Intel adapter but keeps reasonable performance settings, Aero, etc .....

i just find that at "display properties" there is no color profiles..
Usually when we installs a screen, the icm or icc profiles comes with the driver.
My laptop has an Samsung 15.4 screen ... LTN154X3-L01
Is there any way to get an "color profile" for it?
i will say that "color profile" is useful for 2D graphics,
screens - scanners - digital cameras - software " Photoshop", uses this profiles as an way to preserve and display correctly the color tones on your screen.

I created this at dell ideastorm:
http://dellideas.force.com/ideaView?...00000000azJAAQ
On the forums, i constantly see people complaining about the heat their laptop produces. Some people (like me) who use their laptop on their lap a lot, prefer to have the fan on constantly, to keep the laptop cool to the touch.
Others, they hate the noise the fan produces so they prefer the laptop to be not so cool, but they want it silent .....

Does anyone know how much energy Dell's latest laptops use when in standby mode? I've tried looking on their website, but I can't find any definitive figures (I'm using a Precision M4400, if that helps).
Before I always used to hibernate or shutdown my laptop to save energy, but I'm curious if standby mode really uses much power or not.

I have restarted my laptop and the processor is stuck in 2.5 GHz in all the energy modes.
The turbo boost doesn't work anymore and even when I choose Low energy or download mode, the frequency stays 2.5GHz while it was 0.75Ghz before.

How come my T440s doesn't have the Lenovo Energy Manager program? I remember my other Ideapads had it. ThinkPads don't come with that program preinstalled? I wanted to do a battery gauge reset/recalibration.

I recently bought an ideapad z510. You cannot separate the battery in this device, but i really like to keep my battery safe from some dangers like overcharging and discharging.
Now, my question is this: using conservation mode in energy management, which is the software that you can download it from lenovo, can keep my battery imaginary off of charging or not? because the battery charge remains at 60% when you plugged in, and doesn't this mode work when the computer is off , but it still plugged in?

I think I mistakenly applied a Windows 8 Energy Management update to Windows 7 64 on a N586 and now the volume and display screen bars do not show.
I'm unable to reload the original drivers: error message "A later version of Energy Management is already installed on this machine. The setup cannot continue"
Now can I resolve this and reinstall the original Energy Management driver?

I have Lenovo yoga 2 pro with a clean installed Windows 8.1 Pro. My Lenovo Energy Management doesn't function properly.
When I open the Energy Manager and click the menu button (the one with 3 dots and 3 stripes) the energy manager freezes and I can't do anything with it. It doesn't let me click any buttons or even close it with the little x. I can only close it from the little task bar icon.
There is another weird thing, but I don't know wheter it's related: Every time I open the energy manager I get a windows security message from Outlook where I have to fill out my username and password. This only happens if outlook isn't running... This security message dissappears within a few seconds without doing anything, and then for a second another outlook message is displayed that says something about accessing a server... I don't know wheter this is related to whether the energy manager doesn't work, but it seems kind of strange to me...
I tried reinstalling the Energy Manager (v. 1.0.1.49) and tried installing a newer one (v. 1.0.1.51) found here: [URL] ... But I keep having the same problem with the security message and the energy manager freezing.

I just have a few questions about how conservation mode and express charging work. These two are located in Energy Manager under settings.
Conservation mode keeps the battery percent at 55-60%. How is this done? Does the computer discharge until 55% and then charge back up to 60%? Also, if the computer is off, but the AC adapter is left in, will the computer still remain between 55 and 60%? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery?
Express charging allows the computer to be fully charged in 100 minutes. How is this done? Why is this feature not enabled by default? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery?

Does anyone have the wired full size apple keyboard w/ the numeric pad?
I got it a couple days ago and it definitely takes some getting used to. But that phase is over now and I love this keyboard. The build quality is amazing and typing feels just like my MBP keyboard.

Conventional wisdom holds that one of FAT 32's classical limitations is a 4 Gigabyte files size limit. I've done a few searches on the net, and I find this rule repeated ad-infinitem, without contradiction.
I recently purchased a 320 GB Iomega Prestige external drive that I plan to use interchangeably with my Mac and PC systems. To do this, I re-formatted the disk to a single 320 GB partition with FAT 32 file system (The drive comes formatted NTFS).
Yeah, I know there are work-arounds that would permit me to format it NTFS, and use it read-write on my Mac, and there are probably a few solutions that would permit me to format it Mac OS Extended, and use it my PC. I prefer not to use any "workarounds".
Here's my question.... I had occasion to copy a few files to the drive from my MacBook to the drive, namely my Virtual Machine files, that I don't want to use Time Machine for. I had no problem doing so. The two files exceed 4 Gigabytes handily, with one of them being over 30 Gigabytes! Oops, this can't be done, right?
I ask, how is this possible? I thought I had a 4 Gigabyte limit with FAT 32. Does the fact that I formatted the drive with my Mac give me some sort of advantage that Microsoft's formatting using the same file system does not?
I have read that the reason the FAT 32 files sytem can't store files over 4 Gigabytes, is the insufficient lack of storage within the allocation table for the requisite number of pointers required for a file over 4 Gig in size.

I am going to be using my new computer for some medium gaming and i'm wondering which will give me more "bang for my buck"
So, what FPS can i expect on the following games: Unreal Tournament 3, WoW, COD:WaW, battlefield Series and L4D. On med- high settings using the Macbook and the Macbook Pro
And also which would you recommend? Any macbook user that wishes they upgraded to Macbook Pro?

I know that I have stated earlier that I wasn't considering the MBP 17 because the lack of portability, and that I already got a 24" Full HD screen.
But the thing is; I might be able to get the MBP 17 for the same price as the highend MBP 15, because of all the hassle etc that occurred.
I feel like, I don't really need the extra screen estate, I already think the 15" is barely portable, but the 17" got a great battery etc.
When it comes to what I'm going to use the computer for; mainly light stuff the coming time, but after that I'm going to start using final cut pro a lot and I know the 15" screen isn't enough for the ui of the program and the 17 is enough.

I would really like to upgrade my MBP to 8 GB of Ram as I use lots of VMWares in my job. I read that you can do 6 GB but I also saw some people trying 8GB of RAM on even older MBPs.
I read this with interest:
[url]
I'm sure you have also seen the article about the MBP only doing 6GB and not 8GB.
Has anybody here tried 8GB? With the 17" supporting 8GB, boy I wish they would allow it on older MBPs.
I'm hoping with Snow Leopard that 8GB becomes an option.

I am planning to buy base MBP sometime in next two weeks and then upgrade it to larger HDD by myself. I am wondering if the HDD that comes out of MBP can be used in my dying Dell Inspiron 640m (bought in 2007 and has 120 GB drive which has started to show signs of crashing anytime now).
