I have BootCamp configured and my HD is partitioned into two. In Leopard, I display the Hard disk icons on the desktop, but now I have the Windows hard disk too, which is annoying. I never use it and it's annoying. If I go to the finder settings and turn off the "display hard disk" setting, all my HD icons disappear, even the Macintosh HD one. How can I remove only one HD icon (the Windows HD)?

I have 2 computers at home: the Macbook Pro and a desktop. I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme router... I want to be able to access the hard disk of the desktop, from the Macbook. Can Airport Extreme do that?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.

I've managed to remove the base cover with 7 screws & can see the ram; fan; hard disk etc but can't see just how to get the hard disk out?
I bought a new HD for my Acer Aspire 7520-5971 but I couldn't figure out how to remove the old one...

I read that Snow Leopard uses about 6GB less disk space than Leopard. I already have Leopard installed so I'm wondering if I upgrade to Snow Leopard do I get about 6GB of space freed up?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing a mid-2009 MBP -- have grown to really like this notebook. Given that it gets carried around often, I'd like to have everything on it protected by something more than just a simple login password.
I use Time Machine in conjunction with a Time Capsule to keep things backed up, but my understanding is that if I were to enable FileVault to encrypt the disk, I would have to log out of my user account for any backup to actually run. This is pretty inconvenient and a ridiculous issue in general.
What are my other options, folks? Should I just look into using TrueCrypt? (ETA: apparently TrueCrypt doesn't play nice with Time Machine either...)
and there is another issue regarding memory running low, i'm running on 2GB ram and after awhile of using the laptop around 1-2 hours it will prompt memory low issues.. but the weird thing is i run only the standard program like MSN and OPERA .. any solutions? sorry for the lack of information but this only what i get off.. if you need extra info i'll be glad to post it up.

After it is completed it freezes for a moment before loading the blue screen where the desktop icons would normally load. Except they don't. It freezes on the blue background screen. The warranty is up and I have valuable pictures etc.. On this computer from trips and whatnot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my new hp pavillion dv7-1000, it loaded up and i did all the registration stuff before you actually get to using the laptop but as the vista desktop loads up i closed to lid and it put the laptop on standby.
Now when i try to turn the laptop on i get to the log on screen, put in my password, it loads up and then i get a blue screen with my mouse cursor but no desktop icons or anything. I can still do control-alt-delete but i just cant see any of the other stuff.
I then booted in safe mode and i could then see everything but it looked like windows 98 not vista,
I've looked through the add/remove programs and can't find it. Right-clicking on it does nothing.
It seems to me that it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove this annoying bundled software. Please help! If you know how to delete/disable this please let me know

Is there any way I can copy the entire contents of the hard disk onto an external USB hard disk (everything so that I don't lose desktop icons, filing structure e.t.c.) and then restore it when I get a new machine?

I searched around for other people having the same problem and the one solution I got was to change Hkey_Local_MachineSoftwareWidcommBTConfigGeneral KeyIndication to 0, but that's already set to 0 for me, and I'm still getting notifications. The solution with removing "lockkey.exe" is not working as well. I just don't have program like this.
I currently have everything I ever need on one laptop -- a mid-2009 15" MBP. Having had a slew of hard drive problems over the past few years, and given that such disks are regularly the source of problems (before, say, a logic board), I'm considering purchasing a spare hard drive and keeping it, or the one in my machine, as a backup disk for the day when my current drive dies. The closest Apple store is ~45 minutes away, and I'm perfectly capable of doing my own computer surgery. An inoperable laptop would be a pretty significant problem for me.
So basically, my questions are twofold:
- From perusing the hard drive threads a few months back here in the Apple forum, it seems like WD's Scorpio Blue (500 GB, 5400 RPM) is the popular choice. Given the time that's elapsed since its release (and the thinning of hard drive threads after the last "big one" I found), are there any other drives, SSD or standard, that can beat it in terms of power usage / noise / performance overall without gouging the bill too much?
- I use Time Machine with a Time Capsule to keep everything nice and backed up, but an HD/SSD swap would be best done with an image of my entire drive. Is Carbon Copy Cloner still the go-to for that?

I want non-arbitrary icons for the clock and weather in a theme that I can pull off of cydia. or- it doesn't have to be a full blown theme- just the animated icon replacements will do.

Also included in the optional Installs is QuickTime 7 and Rosetta. Also:
- OSX has also added a Software "incompatibility check" during the general Installation of OSX 10.6. Within the installer there is an List with Software Exclusions. With this list any known third party applications will automatically get disabled during the start up.
- The Exclusions lists also Applies to Migration assistant.
I picked up an old iBook G4, specs are:
1.33Ghz PowerPC G4
1GB DDR SDRAM
ATI 32MB VRAM AGP Video Card (integrated I believe)
Seems to be loaded with all the goodies: Bluetooth, Firewire, USB, WiFi.
Not sure if it would be worth it to upgrade to 10.5 though, seems like it would only slow me down but with Unix/Macs I'm not so sure. Plus, it appears that 10.5.x is the last OS Update for the PowerPC crowd.
Why doesn't OS X have a single good video player like KMplayer that can handle Matroska (mkv) files.. Or for that matter handle Subtitles elegantly ...
Or maybe there is something but I am just not aware of its existence
Please don't say it's VLC (even 720p playback stutters on a Unibody macbook) Perian is somewhat better but then Subtitle support is very flaky
I'm upgrading a Mac from 10.3.9 to Leopard. I've got an image of the disc... how do I go about upgrading.

Upgraded my uMB to 4GB last night and System Memory in OS X Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) shows 3.75GB available. I'm not freaked out about this, just wanting to check my curiosity.
Now the About This Mac pop-up window shows 4GB installed so I'm thinking the difference may have to do with OS memory addresses and such which is why you end up with memory recognition in 32bit windows systems, but I'm hoping for confirmation from others that I'm not missing something. The other possibility I considered for the difference is just simply the 1024bit vs 1000bit thing that you end up with in HDD sizing (and that would actually match nicely with the conversion @ ~3.73GB ).
Have a brand new MacBook O/S 10.5.6 (Leopard) Intel Core duo. Also have MacBook Pro also Intel core duo but running on O/S 10.4.11(Tiger). Want to run both on Leopard rather than have 2 different O/S's. Tried install Leopard Disks (which came with new MacBook) onto MacBook Pro, but all i get is Message " Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer." Can anyone enlighten why i can't instal leopard on my MacBook Pro with the instal disks from my Intel MacBook?
