View 10 RepliesI just got my 1st macbook and was trying to burn win 7 iso file in my macbook.
1st problem, it wont let me copy and drag/paste the files from the usb, said that i do not have enough access/permission.....then the copying thingy hangs, will not close until i forcequit the finder. Then all the files in the usb flashdisk disappeared....could not be seen...cant eject it eitherhad to unplug it without ejecting .
I tried burning with my brother's old macbook (tiger) everything was a breeze, no prob except the dvd was not able to be read when i try to boot with bootcamp....
I have tried repairing permission with disk utility but that didnt work either.
what the model # of the 320 GB 7200 RPM drive in the New MBP is? If not, does anyone know if the harddrive comes with a Free Fall Sensor? Is there a Intel 5300 network adapter in the MBP?

I have a whole bunch of data and stuff in "huge number" of old CDs. I want to consolidate them into 2 or 3 1Tb HDDs.
The CDs could be Data, Audio, Bootables.
I could go into Windows Explorer and do the drag & drop / Copy / Paste thing. A couple of issues. Windows Explorer is SLOW, and the STATUS it shows when copying files is not REAL. I'd like a REAL percentage status showing copier.
Something that helps me spend the least amount of time, attention on making this happen. Minimum Intervention.
Ideally it would be a program / app that does the following:
1 - Does fast copying
2 - Automatically creates new folders in a specified location as it copies & places the content of the next CD
3 - Prior to copying it asks what MODE the CD needs to be backed up >
ISO, Simple File Copy, Audio (Raw / mp3), "Name the Folder".
4 - Copies showing REAL status and REAL (estimated) time left until this one is complete
5- Once completed with one CD / Disk
> It NOTIFIES with Visual / Sound clue
> EJECTS the Disk
> Prompts again for next disk
> Asks same "WHAT KIND OF COPY" question for the next disk.
> Does this until all Disks are backed up - Like a BATCH of them are done.
Does some kind of Cataloging as it copies. Maybe asks for Categories / Labels / Tags.
I want to buy an external display for my macbook (the new 13" unibody one). But I would also like to hook up my ps2 to this display. And, but this is not a must, aslo a TV antenna....
The main thing I'm confused about here is the connectors for macbook and ps2 for that monitor/tv?
Also I was thinking of 20 or 22"....i'll also use this to watch movies. and i have a separate 2.1 sound system, so i don't need good in-built speakers.
In bootcamp, using a Macbook Pro unibody, players were having difficulty hearing me. At first, I thought the mic was near the iSight (similar to my last laptop) but soon realized that it's under the left grill. Do I need an external mic? Are there some settings I missed?
I tried to test it in the game options and it would go up a tiny bit, so I do know it's picking up my voice.
I'm pretty sure I crashed my hard drive. I came back in and my two year old white dual core macbook had froze up. I screwed around with it and finally got it to boot from the external backp drive.(Don't ask me how I did it) I know it had the system on it. I put it on when I did the intial backup a year ago. I tried to reinstall the software but the internal doesn't show up. ANd you can't install to an external hardrive. SO can I just install a new harderive and does anybody have any suggestions as to what brand, size and best deal.
Also there is a ton of upgrades that want to download as the OS I have is over a year old on the external.
I'll be checking in cause I know I probably don't have enough info on here. ANd i aint gonna shut down
can I get any external hard drive for my Macbook? Because I see ads for external hard drives for Macs, as if they're specially designed and made for Macs. Is that legit, or can I buy any one I want?
And while we're on the subject - any suggestions as to which one is the best (fastest, most reliable, etc.)?
I'm looking at getting a 1TB external.
I bought the Macbook Pro 13" on March 21st, couldn't wait for the refresh.
Now my question is, how do I connect to the external monitors, as in which Mini Displayport do I need to buy? I see a lot of displayports at Fry's for under $20 for Mac but don't know which part number exactly do I need for my MBP.
Another question is, I might want to get the Mini Displayport to DVI. Would DVI to HDMI work from the Apple Mini Displayport? Would DVI to VGA work from the Apple Mini Displayport also? I have alot of DVI to VGA/HDMI adapters so I was wondering would it work if I just bought the Mini Displayport to DVI.
I use my MacBook Pro for most everything except at home where I have a desktop system that's a few years old. The MacBook Pro should generally run rings around it except for disk performance and that's something that I'd like to fix. So I picked up a 1 TB MyBook and it's attached to the MacBook Pro right now but the MBP doesn't see the disk. I assume that I need to partition and format the drive.
The MacBook Pro currently has Mac OSX and Windows XP on the internal drive and they work just fine. What I'd like to do is to be able to boot Mac OSX, WinXP x64 and Win32 off of the 1 TB drive. I was hoping to partition it into three pieces and boot whichever OS I wanted at the time.
What I'd like to know is if it is possible to do this (3 OS on one external drive that the Mac could boot from) and how to go about setting this up. I would grab XP x64 and XP Win32 off another machine (that machine has three Windows licenses running) and move them to the MacBook Pro (with Microsoft's help if needed).
if I want to connect the macbook to an external LCD monitor, I will need a mini-DVi to DVI adapter, but the adapter is so short. So should I connect the adapter to the DVi cable that is connect to the monitor? The adapter is so short that there is no way it can be directly connected to the monitor......
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking on using my MBA as my main computer, therefore I'm considering buying the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and the Mighty Mouse and hooking up to my HP Monitor for when I'm at my desk for long periods.
It's very easy to hook up ... this MBA seems quick enough and a usb hub can be added if need be ... why not use it as a main pc?
Further, the only windows app I'm really going to miss is Publisher, I'm thinking on being daring and installing Vista on the Mac with Bootcamp and then run Publisher in Windows. If that worked well I could get rid of the T500... (I have a desktop I could use for heavier app's, movie/music downloading) ...
Seems like a lot of work for such a small little machine, lol, can it handle it? Has anyone there done this before with success?
I had a folder on my desktop and yesterday it disappeared. I also had some files in a folder "untitled folder" with some numbers after the "untitled folder" and, although I was able to save files to it, I can't find it on the hard drive.
I've had my Mac for a few months (and love it) but there are still so many things that I haven't figured out. On Windows you can "restore" the computer to a former date and have things just the way they were on that date.
Is that possible with OSX? It's not a disaster. Nothing critical lost (I hope) but I'm wondering what happened and what I might have done to "lose" those folders.
I have a SSD/HDD setup in my 13" MBP, 60GB and 500GB respectively, that being said, I want to make the link to "Movies, Torrent, and Applications" go there.
For Torrent and Applications it's easy, move the folders, delete the original, set an alias in the home folder. Done. (My application folder is for storing Games, and other Apps that are either OSX or WIndows apps, not the actual App folder that OSX uses for programs.)
Anyways, I create a Movies folder on my other HDD, and go to delete the old Movies folder on the SSD/OSX Drive, and OSX tells me, "You cannot delete because this folder is required by OSX."
OK, but how do I get it to link to the new drive?
In Win 7 I remember just opening properties, and clicking 'set target folder' and bam it's done. I did this a lot back then.
ALSO, If I UNMOUNT my second HDD, does it 'shut off' and 'stop consuming power'?
I realised I can re-mount it in Disk Utilities, and probably with a Unix command.
I just wanna save power when I'm mobile, by not having to use the spinner.
I'm just curious if Mac OS X has anything similar to the Temp folder found in Windows?
Particularly during program installs, does the OS extra temp files somewhere in the HD?
Aside from the browser history and temporary files (which I can clear within the browser), are there anything else that I need to clear every now and then?
Can I import a bunch of songs from different folders instead of having to drag and drop each individual music file? Like drag and drop the entire music folder into iTunes instead of having to go into each individual artist's folder and dragging and dropping?
Also, is it possible to clear all registered machines to an account? I just went through my third computer and forgot to de-authorize (un-authorize?) my account, again again.
I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy ipod is about to die and i need to copy all the mp3's off of it without messing up the songs names (i know if you copy/paste it renames some songs to SF57KLY or something like that). so is there a reliable program out there you guys would recommend to me for getting my songs onto my lappy? by the way, i am using windows XP. i also dont mind buying a program if i know it will work, so it doesn't have to be free.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHow do I move the active app on the screen with some keyboard shortcuts?
I really need some application that will move my windows where I want right away, resizing them at the same time.
My specific scenario is: I use an external 27" LCD with the MBP; I keep connecting and disconnecting the laptop over a day at work several time.
The problem is: I set up a window to be "that big" and to be on "that" part of the display, I set up other windows next to the first one (usually all documents, need to compare them side by side) and it looks and works fine on the big screen, but when I disconnect they are not keeping the side-by-side position (smaller of course, to fit on the 15" MBP display).
My wish: to press something like Ctrl+1 to move the active window to position 1,1 on the screen, with the windows size of 960 & 600; Ctrl+2 to move the active window to position 961, 1, with the size of 960x600. This way I would get the 2 windows side by side really easy.
I found several apps doing this(and much more) for Finder, but nothing for any window of any application that runs on Mac ...
I have no idea how hard is to code this on a Mac, fairly new with Macs; but I am ready to purchase a small utility that will accomplish those tasks ..
i have an appl g4 powerbook and it doesnt have a harddrive, cd drive, and it may need a new battery. does anyone know where i can get inexpensive parts for this thing? they dont need to be apple parts, i just want this thing to work.
this is all the info on the laptop:
PowerBook G4 model no m6091 14.4v
400 MHz/1 mb cache 128 mb/10gb/8mb video/DVD/ap
serial No: Qt1390f9lbw
I JUST got a new 13" mbp , but I need to upgrade the harddrive to maybe 320 or 500gb...I'm not too sure which specs to look for, and have noticed the opposing viewpoints for 5400 and 7200 rpms. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of laptop heat, but a faster harddrive would be beneficial for me, as I'll be DJing with serato.
Do you guys have any suggestions or harddrives that you'd recommend?
I also plan on upgrading to SSD when prices drop a good deal sometime down the road.
I have a 250Gb Maxtor Harddrive which is 2.5" and formatted as FAT32 (so I'm able to use it on my Mac and work PC), I have roughly 100Gb worth of research documents on there already which I constantly update every fortnight. Just recently I tried to copy some video files onto the harddrive but it doesn't seem to work?
A few problems, it wouldn't copy as the little box always said 'preparing to copy' but never did anything so I kept restarting my Macbook untill it finally would copy and now it has copied over but I don't see the files on the harddrive?
Is there anything I can do? I'm running 10.5.5
I finally upgraded to snow leopard and noticed that when I zoom into the screen, I can't move the zoomed-in portion of the screen around like I did in Leopard. Is there a way to enable movement?

View 3 Replies View RelatedTo start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.
First Impressions
When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".
The Macbook
I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:
The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............
I have been speculating over this prospect giving the direction that Apple took with the starting price of the 24" iMac (upgrade everything else and downgrade the VRAM).
I mean, this is something I would like to see, but I wonder if it is a smart move on Apple's part given how much they make off the current MBP's with the so called Apple Tax.
And, if they made this move, one has to wonder if it still would be considered a Pro.
This is going to be my very first Mac. I'm really excited about it, but I don't know which one I should go for... I narrowed it down to these two models. Which one should I go for and why?
