What i was wondering if my girlfriend's 06 core 2 duo macbook would be able to be disassembled and put into an 08 core 2 duo macbook's shell or case or whatever you call it. The non unibody version.
Reason is just to swap it out so it can look like new again.
I just came back from the store where they had a display model of the White Macbook and it was full of swirl marks (tiny scratches) everywhere on the outside shell. My question is... Do they come with tiny scratches like that from the factory or are they pristine when you get them?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new MacBook Pro 13.3, 2,4 320GB HDD. Now while waiting for it I thought I should ask you the following: what is the best protective case for Macs.
a) Incase 13" Neoprene Sleeve Plus for MacBook Pro for 40$
or
b) Speck 13" SeeThru Satin Case for MacBook Pro and MacBook40 for 50$?
or
c) Should I just get a normal case sleeve for anything between 15-30$?
If options a) and b) are preferable, would I still need a sleeve too? (I travel a lot). Also, do optioins a) and b) make Macs hotter?
I am looking for a laptop bag for my MBP. Was hoping to get some suggestios here. Preferably I would like to stay away from Messenger bags since they tend to hurt my shoulders.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy son's MacBook Pro (15 inch) has a case warp problem that's probably caused by something in the superdrive pushing out the plastic strip on the front of the laptop. I suggested taking it to the Apple Store to see what it would cost to fix (probably a Superdrive replacement at a minimum). I also asked him if he'd like a new 15 inch MBP but he likes his current system despite the problems. It has a Windows XP partition and all of the software that he likes on it which would have to be moved over. I'm disappointed with this generation MBP with the nVidia problem, the failed superdrive and now the current problem.
I have the 17 inch model of the same generation but I haven't had any problems with mine. I'd personally just prefer getting him a new one and I might just go ahead and get one and set it up (he's at a university for the summer and uses his MBP for his job there).
In general, are the Aluminum MBPs more problem free than the previous generation plastic models? Are there fewer Superdrive issues?
i need to know which case is good for the 13 inch macbook, other then the Speck Seethru Cases. I think the speck cases are great, but if anyone knows of any other, or better case the the Speck cases, Also if anyone knows of a silicone type case for the macbook.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a Sony Vaio vpcf111fx/b 17" laptop and I'm looking to protect it from scratches and dings. I'm not looking for a skin. I've been looking thru google but all I find are hard shells for Mac's.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a proud new owner of a MBP 13-inch. couple of matters.
(1) A good skin/sleeve/cover/case to protect it on the go. Ideally I'd like a very lightweight and elegant skin or shell that's on all the time to protect the exterior from wear and tear, without trapping too much heat.
(2) I need a sleek padded case to carry the unit and typical accessories (charger, adapters, mouse) and other small items.
(3) I'm looking for a convenient laptop stand for my desk to set the MBP alongside an external monitor.
I am trying to decide which one of these cases to get for my new MBP13 (2010).
Speck Satin Shell ($40) vs Macally BookShell2 ($25) vs XGear Silhouette ($30)
Sort of leaning toward the Macally Bookshell2 atm since its the cheapest
Has anyone tried or seen these cases in action?

I am thinking buying a 500GB 2.5" WD HD for my macbook and taking out the original HD. Can I swap the macbook HD with the PS3 120G HD? so I can download more contents from PSN.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have the stock 250gb Fujitsu MJA2250BH. It clicks a little and I can hear it working at times, but I suppose it's decent. I'm still going to upgrade to a faster one sometime.
What do you have? You happy with it? Does it make a lot of noise/vibration/etc.?
I had two questions about replacing the hard drive on the 1st generation (rev A) MacBook Air (with the 80GB hard drive):
1. I believe I read somewhere that it uses a not-so-common connector/interface. So, does anyone know where you can get the type of hard drive the rev. A MacBook Air takes?
2. Has anyone ever done this? Is it hard to get inside the case? Hard to swap out the drive?
I have a 2.2GHz 15" Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro with the factory 120GB hard drive. I want to upgrade the hard drive in the near future and have a couple questions:
1. Is there a size limit? (memory)
2. I hear that 7200RPM can be loud and/or cause vibration. Have any of you guys experienced this?
3. Is it SATA or ATA? What's the difference?
4. I noticed some are 16MB and some are 8MB. Does it really make a difference?
6. What's the best place to buy online?
5. These are some of the hard drives that I was looking at: [url]
can I get any external hard drive for my Macbook? Because I see ads for external hard drives for Macs, as if they're specially designed and made for Macs. Is that legit, or can I buy any one I want?
And while we're on the subject - any suggestions as to which one is the best (fastest, most reliable, etc.)?
I'm looking at getting a 1TB external.
My new question is I bought a Used Macbook 13 mid 2007 and the last owner wiped the hard drive clean, and just so I can use the macbook I've been using a Live Linux cd, which is ok for now.. Anyway a friend gave me his set of os x 10.4.6 dvds so I can install a mac os but for some reason they won't install, it starts like it's going to install then a message pops up saying' this software can't be installed on this computer'' or something like that..
What can I do, the last owner of this macbook says he lost the CDs that came with it, when he was moving..
I just bought my first macbook ever. I got the 13.3" MBP with the 160gb 5400 rpm hard drive.
I upgraded the ram already from 2gb -> 4gb, and I was considering upgrading the hard drive. Size isn't too much of an issue for me because I keep most of my songs/movies/pictures on an external, but I was planning on upgrading it to something faster.
I was looking at the 320gb 7200rpm Scorpio Black, and was wondering if anyone has it installed in their unibody MBPs. I was worried about whether it would cause it to vibrate more/be noticeably louder/generate more heat.
I was also considering the seagate momentus equivalent.
I have a 17" Macbook Pro, just prior to the unibody. I currently have the 250gig 5400rpm drive. I want to upgrade to a 320gig 7200rpm drive.
1. Which model HD do you recommend?
2. If you don't screw anything up on install, will the Applecare warranty still be valid? I get conflicting answers on this.
3. I would love to keep my current hard drive OS/Apps intact. I'd like image my drive and put it on my new 320 drive. Any tips or documentation on how to do this? What is required? I do have an external firewire800 drive I can use to store the image.
i have two macbooks connected to an airport extreme (i haven't actually got one yet), and i connect an external hard drive to the airport.
I want to share my external hard drive through my network. Just wondering how fast are the transfer speeds from the hard drive to the macbook using wireless? (ie copying a movie 700mb etc from the hard drive connected to the airport to my macbook using wireless)
I have 2 computers at home: the Macbook Pro and a desktop. I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme router... I want to be able to access the hard disk of the desktop, from the Macbook. Can Airport Extreme do that?

View 10 Replies View RelatedAs I am patiently waiting for MBP 13" to arrive, I was thinking about the best way to protect it from physical damage because I hear that the aluminum body is prone to scratches and dents rather easily.
So, I was curious to know how other members on this board are protecting their MBPs. Are you using a sleeve or a case (shell) or both? I was looking to purchase a Incase Neoprene Sleeve and maybe a specks satin shell, but I don't know if that is overkill or is really needed.
I'm looking for the best keyboard protector (silicone) and best hard case that snaps onto the laptop.
View 8 Replies View Relatedmy UMBP got way too damn hot. and was getting tired of the heat. So I started out just taking the bottom of the notebook case off and blowing it out. Then I started looking at it more closely, the fans have no direct access to fresh air intake. Yes I know the speakers/keyboard are meant for that. But the tinkerer in me fired up the drill press and with a 11/32 bit started making some small holes areound the fan intake and ram. Well my MBP now runs so much cooler before I was running 44-55C on mbp just idling and light web browsing. No I am so so happy to say my MBP is running at 35-40C. That is significant decrease in temps.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi got my santa rosa MBP not too long ago (i bought it second hand). i am extremely happy with the machine as it is a 2.4ghz c2d with 160g hdd at 5400rpm and 8600gt 256mg gpu. i know this has been discussed many times, so i have been reading about the multi touch trackpad and was a bit bummed that i didnt get the newer 2008 penryn model instead. 2 days ago i was thiking about replacing the SR MBP top case with a penryn MBP top case and have the multi touch, 4 finger gesture ability on my SR MBP. therefore i started googling to see of people have actually done conversions and worked..fortunately, i found a member on this forum and confirmed that it actually works...but unfortunately there was not guide for this operation. I would really want to hear from those that has performed such replacement operation and perhaps give me some tips and what i may need to watch out for. in addition to that, does anybody know of a guide for this replacement? would the penryn top case keyboard and trackpad connections fit the SR MBP? any modifications needed?
