Dell :: 1340, Hybrid SLI, And 210m
Oct 12, 2009Does anyone know whether a 1340 with a 210m GPU has the same hybrid SLI setup as the 9500 configuration, or is it a more conventional discrete GPU that's always active?

View 10 RepliesThe Nvidia hybrid SLI settings has disappeared from the vista power settings. I've tried and reinstall motherboard and graphics card drivers but it did not help. How do I get it again?
Are there other programs to switch on and off for hybrid sli?
I've had my laptop since June and have not been impressed with the graphics performance of the Hybrid SLI setup.
I installed nHancer for the first time and started tinkering around with stuff and noticed that some of the games I was disappointed in weren't utilizing both GPUs by enabling the SLI Load Balancing Graph (Vsync has to be disabled for this to work).
Upon further tinkering I noticed that for both GPUs to be used, the game profiles had to be modified with "Hybrid SLI mode" set to "1". Thought I'd share this information so everyone can try and get the most out of their computer.
My step-mom is looking into these Dell Studio Hybrid models to replace her old desktop. Any feelings out there on these things?
I'm pretty much a laptop guy but she isn't really concerned with performance as much as how it looks. Basically just needs it for photoshop and to watch DVDs.
I'm currently running 190.40 drivers for my GeForce 9500M on my SXPS13. Before updating to 190.40, clicking the little green NVIDIA tray icon that shows what mode you're running in allowed me to choose my mode manually through the use of two radio buttons.
Currently, I can only switch between "Boost Performance" and "Save Power" by switching power profiles in Windows. Is there some way I can get back those radio buttons without having to go back to the older driver?
it seems alot of people don't seem to understand the workings under SLI and have simply decided that the Hybrid SLI found in their laptop is pretty much useless.. While there is some truth to this it isn't completely true.
As those of you with SLI on your desktops will know, SLI is largely based on 2 things. Game support, and driver support.
By game support I mean some games will darn right refuse to work properly with SLI enabled. Some games may also work with SLI enabled, but show no clear benefits with SLI turned on. And linking in, nVidia have to make profiles for each game in their drivers. If you're up for tweaking it is possible to add your own profiles using nHancer, but then again, how many of you would be willing to do that?
So what I plan on doing, is benchmarking several games to give people an insight into the workings of SLI, what games support it, what games don't, what games need tweaking.. and hopefully based on this you can decide whether it's worth it or not for you in particular .....
are there any 512mb or higher video cards that work with the inspiron e1505? the reason why is i noticed that with the hightest resultion gives you choppy results when using media center (the dvds play fine) also aparently there are hybrid drives out

where do you buy them? iwould one of them would solve my video card issue.
Has anyone got the hybrid to work on a clean installed W7?
I cannot switch from speed to stamina without rebooting.
Anyone have any luck being able to enable their Nvidia card within Linux? I could care less about trying to switch... But I have spent some serious time trying to do it and unfortunately you cannot just turn off the intel graphics card in the BIOS..

I dont see any SSD drive in the eplorer nor in the Computer Management utility. I would like to understand what is stored on my SSD and how to best utilize this for best performance. I may want to run games/OS/applications from the SSD to get that quick read times.
how to fix it? Basically when on Stamina Mode, sometimes the graphics will get minor graphical glitches. This doesn't happen immediatly, after like 1-2 hours of use.
The glitches are not usually that bad, can still work within it if wanted.
However in Speed Mode, it never glitches.
We are trying to set up the automatic load for our new X240 laptops. But when we do, the process sees the drive as a sepearate 16GB drive 0 and a 500GB drive 1. Windows 7 doesn't load well on a 16GB drive.
Â
Our M93p desktops also have a hybrid drive, but all our tools and the os loading process just sees 1 500GB drive 0.
Â
why that might be different? Is maybe the drive controller bad, since it's reporting 2 drive instead of one?
I configured a SXPS 1340 for $1334 with LED and 9500M. THe BB XPS1340 is similar but with a CCFL and 9400M for $900. Is it worth the $434 difference?
How bad is the heating issue with the 1340?
Just kind of curious what people are using their xps 1340's for.
video editing, photo shop? just surfing the web, movies?
Anything specific that you find this laptop good for?
I just ordered a XPS 1340 fully loaded P9600/LED/4GB/Nvidia 256/256GB SSD/BT option.
I used my Dell credit card (logon to Dell.com/DPA5PERCENT)(evalue code 6M278-DYPDFP1)to get 5% plus a $150 gift card.
I started with a chat then they called me. After humming and hawing the rep was unable to to a better deal than my saved cart. I said thanks anyway but its out of my budget.
Is it true that XPS 1340 has a lot of problems? I was thinking about buying x1340 but many people including this forum are complaining about heat problems, fan noise and other hardware failures
View 5 Replies View Relatedwell i have a dell latitude e6400 from the outlet and all of a sudden a ton of xps 1340s came in stock and i got a good one and im debating on whether i should keep i buy it or not and return my e6400.
so i was wondering how do u guys like it? how long does the 6 cell last and does it overheat alot? and do u personally think its durable and will last as long as my e6400?
I just talked to dell via a chat and they said that I cannot upgrade to anymore then 4GB of ram which I currently have. I looked at the specs on the build site and the Ram are all SDRAM at the same 1067 MHz. Am I missing something?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought this new laptop and it froze on me during inital set up and dell had to reimage it on the phone with me. Now that I have it where I can use the machine after about an hour of web surfing it seems like the bottom is pretty hot and near the vent is so hot you could not hold your hand there. I was thinking of calling dell back and talking to them about it. Are other people experiencing a lot of heat with this computer?

I see the 1640 models have option for T9900 (3.0ghz) will this one fit my motherboard sockets or not?
I get how to do it, but what do you guys recommend settings wise and what program should I use ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an XPS 1340 on order, with the g210m graphics card. I have been reading about this computer, and while performance seems good,
I am starting to freak out a little bit about the heat issues people are reporting, even recently and with the new g201m.
I owned a laptop once with heat issues, and I don't want to go back to the bad old days of lockups and crashes related to heat.
I am thinking of canceling my order (or returning it if I can't), and getting the Vaio SR with the HD4570 graphics card.
What do people think of this as an alternative?
I lose the backlit keyboard and small amount of potential graphics performance, but also lose heat issues, fan noise, and potential problems related to the SLI configuration.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI think I have decided to purchase a Dell Studio XPS 1340, as I require a new laptop before the end of June and I'm not sure anything better in this class will be available before then.
I will be using it for a bit of everything, including work, portability, hooking it up for presentations, general surfing on the couch and some minor game playing. I have a few questions about purchasing it.
1. CPU. At the moment both the P9500 (2.53GHz) and the P9600 (2.66GHz) cost an extra $388.30. Shouldn't the P9600 cost more than the P9500? Am I missing something here?
2. Screen. I get a lot of glare on my current laptop at work. Does the XPS 1340 have a glossy or matte screen? Does choosing WLED or CCFL have any effect on this?
3. Deals. There is currently a $150 cash off deal which ends tomorrow (Thursday). This seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Should I take this or is there a high likelihood a better deal will be available soon? I will also be using the EPP code as I'm a full-time student.
Are there any other coupons I could use? In addition to being a full-time student, I am also a small business owner (strange combo I know), and have bought Dell desktops for employees in the past. Would I be able to get a better deal going through a small business sales channel .....
I'm really debating on which laptop to get, since I've heard a fair share of both good/bad reviews from both models.
I'm not really a heavy gamer, just a little Counter-Strike 1.6 and WarCraft III.
I was looking for portability with the 1340, but the aspect of full 1080p on the 1640 keeps pulling me back!
I'm just worried that the 1640 will be too big for me to be considered "portable" and more of a desktop replacement. .
I have read threads about Skype and windows 7, Skype and Dell XPS 1640and IDT codec sound drivers having issues.
I have an XPS 1340 with IDT for sound software, I have had my machine running good for about a month now, after I did a complete system restore 3 times.
So, I was wondering can anyone recommend a Skype version that is pretty friendly with the XPS 1340. or can I use the IDT drivers for the 1640 that I read about working with Skype
