Aug 10, 2009I have been looking online and getting mixed results regarding buzzing noises from ac power adapters. My old hp dv6000 laptop powerbrick did not make buzzing noises as loud as my new dv6-1235cl from costco.
I noticed that a lot of people now hear buzzing noises from their ac adapter. Then I came onto this website.

Is this a bunch of bs or are they for real?
I can hear the buzzing noise when I put my ac adapter on the table, but almost non existent when its on the ground. I want to know if this will be a fire safety hazard in the future? I dont want my house burning down even when this thing is plugged in.
Dell :: Plugged Power Adapter Into Wrong Laptop, Now Adapter Doesn't Work?
Nov 9, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and my friend has a Latitude D820.
Tonight she accidentally plugged my power adapter into her laptop. A few hours later, she noticed that her laptop indicated that it wasn't plugged in, and that's when we realized that she had accidentally used my adapter instead of hers.
Now my adapter doesn't work at all. We've tried the adapter with both our laptops with different outlets with the same problem, so we know it's the adapter. The green light also doesn't come on when it's plugged in anymore.
Did plugging my adapter into her laptop somehow screw up my adapter, or could this just be a coincidence? Is there any way to fix the adapter or at least figure out what the problem is? And if I have to purchase a new adapter, do the universal ones they sell at retail electronics stores work OK? I would order one from Dell but I'm working on a project now and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.

Aug 19, 2009I received my 1555 today and am absolutely over the moon. Trying to installing Windows 7 RC on at the moment and apart from some small hiccups - due to user erroor everything is going smoothly. BUT
From the moment I plugged in the a/c power adaptor I noticed that every so often it produces a buzzing noise? It happens every 20sec to 1min or so and last between 1sec to 10sec each time. Does anyone's do that? Not only that, it gets pretty hot as well, when I put my hand on it(on the label side) it feels really hot, in fact so hot that I have to take my hand off unless I 'made' myself stay there. Is this normal?

Apr 22, 2009When I am burning a cd or dvd, the drive makes a really loud buzzing noise that sounds like its coming from some sort of vibration.
If I push the drive in and up just a bit while this happens, the vibrations stop and the noise goes away.

Mar 15, 2013It's recently been making noises, it happened before and I thought it was not a big deal. Until now, it keeps making noises and then freezes the whole laptop. I had to press power button and waited like 2 or 3 minutes for it to restart. It always happened while i'm playing online games then it freezes... i don't know how to check the fan or temperature of my lap top all i know is when i touch it sometimes its hot...my laptop is dell xps 15 (L502X).

Dell :: My Latitude E4200 Starts To Make A Buzzing Noise
Jan 1, 2010Recently my laptop starts to make a high frequency whining noise, almost constantly and rarely stopped.
I tried to locate the component which the noise was originated from, I can only figure out it's somewhere below the memory module, but there is no moving component there, so my biggest suspect is the fan, because if I put my ear to the back of the laptop, except the whining I also heard very minor "clicking" noise.
Another weird thing is, this noise only starts after Windows is loaded, not in BIOS or during booting, although the fan was running at those times.

Jan 15, 20142 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).
Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day.
There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.
Dell Latitude E7240 :: Buzzing Sound On Touch Screen
Oct 16, 2013I've recently taken delivery of an E7240 with the FHD touch screen option. I am generally quite impressed with the laptop except for one thing, the touch screen buzzes. The sound is similar to a hard disk working, a bit random .. not a constant noise. Â The sound will immediately stop when I put a finger on the screen though which makes me think it's related to the touch screen itself.Â
Rebooting etc. makes no difference... shaking the laptop, smacking it (gently) etc. has no affect.....
I realise these laptops are new so perhaps there isn't much experience out there...

Jan 9, 2009I have a one year old DV9774ca which suddenly overnight started a slight brrrrr sound from the cooling fan. Its definately the fan because if I watch it and the fan stops for a while then the noise coming from it stops.
At first I thought it sucked up something. I can't see anything, so I blew it out with compressed air, through the fan and through the vents, and it never helped.
I can only assume its the bearings in the fan. Theres no wires or anything sticking down.
I had a similar burrring fan noise once on a computer and if i tapped on the top of the cpu cooler fan the noise went away for a while.
My question is if theres bearings actually at all in these tiny little fans? Or what else it could be. I ask this in case anyone has had experience with these noises and have you either pushed/pulled on the fan blades and it stopped?
I have no issues changing the HSF myself as I build computers for myself and family. So its nothng new to me to pull things to pieces. I have been perusing ebay, etc, for a hsf model 434678-001, as I gather thats the correct one. I can't stand HP's prices so I will source it any where else!

May 4, 2010I just picked up a e4200 with backlit keyboard and whenever the back light is turned on there is a noise (slight buzzing or hum) that can be heard. As soon as the back light turns off the sound goes away. It's kind of bugging me because you wouldn't think that the back light would add to the decibel level of the laptop..

Jan 7, 2010Sometimes when I am typing on my Mid 2009 macbook white there is a sort of buzzing sound, I have ruled this down to the magnet on the top left of the screen as if i put somthing magnetic near it i can hear the magnet moving slightly, I havent had this issue with my 17" MBP

Mar 4, 2010I therefore have felt the need to come back, because I now now have a new problem (well its actually been around for a good few months). This problem is also a buzzing noise, but this time from the speakers and in particular, what sounds like the subwoofer. They randomly start making a crackling/buzzing/distorted static sound at random intervals when listening to music or videos or when using Skype, etc.
I've had this problem for a while and it hasn't bothered me as normally going to 'Acer eAudio Management' and simply swapping to '5.1 Output' and then back to 'Built in Speakers' solved the problem, albeit temporarily. Its been more of an annoyance than anything.
However, on Tuesday (2 days ago) I got my copy of Windows 7 through the post to replace my Vista installation. 7 is fantastic it really is, but since I have installed it all hell has broken lose with my speakers. The buzzing noise is now much more frequent, particualry when simply opening something such as Skype or Windows Media Player, whilst listening to iTunes. Swapping between the '5.1' and 'built in speakers' does stop the buzzing, but now, it comes back almost instantly.....................

Feb 6, 2009While watching a DVD last night in OSX, I noticed a buzzing sound in the right speaker when I was above 70% of the volume.. At half the volume, I don't hear the buzzing noise. It's kind if annoying especially when you're watching long movies. Anyone else have this problem?
Oh yeah, and my CPU temperature went up to 90C. Is watching a DVD that cpu intensive?

Dec 17, 2014I bought my y510p brand new from Lenovo about 11 months ago. About 2 days ago, my fan suddenly started making a very loud buzzing/grinding noise. Prior to this, it was perfectly quiet. The fan makes this noise inconsistently, and at this point, leaving it on a flat surface keeps it quiet. However, any tilting or jostling of the laptop makes the fan start buzzing again. I have noticed that running the dust removal utility will stop the fan from buzzing, and this seems to be the only way to return it to producing a regular sound after it has started.

I really don't think my fan needs to be replaced, but I am unsure what is causing this problem. I have never dropped my laptop--and its spent almost its entire life on my desk. The only thing that's changed is I moved it after it had remained in the same spot for several weeks--because I am currently traveling.

The inconsistency of the noise and the newness of my computer tends to make me think the fan hasn't worn out yet.
Dell :: S-XPS 1640 And 1645 Audio Buzzing/cracking/distortion 60-80%+ Volume (to Bill For Engineers)
Feb 19, 2010You can hear this effect around 60%-80%+ volume(varies by system) usually from the right speaker(more noticeable). It sounds like a speaker when its damaged from high volume or a bad amp you hear a buzzing/cracking/distortion sound on the right speaker usually(you can also verify it with the dell audio diagnostic, test my Dell technician even realized it). Ive had 3 xps's replaced(due to other issues) all of them had the same problem (additionally I had 2 speaker replacements and they had the same problem). sxps 1640 and 1645. I remember when a technician came and opened my motherboard I took a look at the side speakers. It seems that the right speakers are loose compared to the left ones. You can press on it and it goes a bit in and out.
I just wanted to start a new thread for Bill to bring this issue also to the attention of the engineers. I think I know what the problem is, I will be putting rubber pads in my laptop to enforce the speakers from vibrating. Someone brought this solution to my attention a long time ago.

Does anyone else have this problem? Verify so Bill can bring it to the attention of the engineers. Bills going to have big meeting with big players soon so post up if you do have this issue so he can bring it to the table. I didn't want to use the throttling thread for this issue.
My temporary solution is not to go about 60% volume... since it's load already but it would be nice to blast the volume and listen to music while doing other chores in the house or hang with friends but the audio quality is terrible.
Note: I can not verify this for sxps 1647 because I do not have one.
I will give you guys an update on my results, when I dampen the system with pads and reinforce it.

Jan 15, 2010I just purchased the new 16" F Series. Right out of the box, the unit makes a slight buzzing noise on the right side.
It starts after the unit has booted. It tends to happen when the machine is idle. It's the same if the battery is in or out.
