View 4 RepliesInstalled the win7 beta on my m1710 yesterday, and after a quick trip to windows update for some drivers, everything worked great with one exception.
Thier is a setting in power management for the processor to throtle the cpu before turning up the fan speed that is enable by default when on battery.
Maybe it was just a fluke with my unit, but when I unplugged it to move to the living room, it got hot, really, really, hot. Way hotter than I've ever felt it get with XP or Vista.
I know this isn't a cell phone forum but it IS the Apple sub-section so I don't know for a more suitable spot for it.
Anyone have the iPhone 3.0 OS up and running? I just downloaded it a couple of minutes ago and am installing it right now on my iPod Touch to play around with. I'm not sure I want to load it on my phone yet because it states it is impossible (or difficult) to go from 3.0 back to 2.2.1. I am interested in some of the phone features but I believe I will wait for the actual release.
More hits than misses in my opinion but still one feature that I wanted to become built into the "phone" page was voice dialing. Third party apps technically get the job done but I don't want to go scrolling through apps trying to find it. Landscape texting and MMS were my favorite of the announced features.
I recently installed win7 on my new studio 17 (1737) and since then the drive doesn't seem to recognise the discs as blu-rays, with powerDVD bringing up "there is a disc with an unsupported format in drive (F".
It worked fine beforehand, with whatever version of powerDVD that came pre-loaded, but after it won't play on any version.
It was a clean install of win7 (x64), and I've downloaded the updated firmware for the drive from the dell site (it's the CA10N, think it's LG-ish).....
I hope this is the correct forum. I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong spot or if this issue has already been addressed. However,
I have searched the forum and other spots on the internet and have had no luck with this issue.
I recently upgraded my Studio XPS 1640 to Windows 7. Everything seems to be working fine, except for my webcam. If I look at the device manager, it lists 4 highlighted areas as problematic under 'other devices":
1) Base system device
2) Base system device
3) Base system device
4) Unknown device .....
The hardware/software specs on this laptop are: ...
It is my wife's computer that I bought for her for Xmas. She uses it like any girl would, using Firefox for surfing Facebook, plays that Farm game on the Facebook (based on Flash I believe?), plays the Sims 3 on it, iTunes to her iPhone, and some light photo stuff.
She is claiming that it has some stuttering (from the sounds of it less than 1 second of stutter) every now and then when she is doing anything on it, internet, Flash based games, Sims 3. She said it does occasionally freeze completely and she has to restart it during the Flash game and Sims 3, I don't think it has done this since I updated it to the latest BIOS last week though, time will tell I think.
I just can't narrow down what the problem is though. All of her drivers are completely up to date from Dell's website, Windows 7 Home is fully updated (it autoupdates daily) from Microsoft.
I haven't seen widespread complaints about the Studio 1555 having stuttering/freezing issues so I'm having a hard time narrowing down a specific hardware component within the computer. If I were to guess the two biggest culprits would be either the 500gb 7200rpm HD or the Radeon 4570.
Does anyone else have this stuttering/freezing problem or have seen common complaints about this?
The S1440/Studio 14z is constantly running hot for me. It is running the fan all the time and very hot air blowing. I can also hear the hard drive making some noise some times ...Is this sign of trouble. I just i have 1 browser and IM client running and no video or audio streaming going one. The fan is constantly running & blowing hot air...
Anyone facing the same issues..Should i try getting an exchange from BBY ...I would appreciate any tweaks which may be needed to make it work cooler. It is hot to the extent of uncomfortable on lap.
I was just wondering if any of you have had any experiance with this. I feel the need to upgrade, as i have 4gb of ram and the ati graphics card, which means on 32bit, i can't use all my ram .....
View 4 Replies View RelatedI myself have an old celeron powered inspiron 1300, 2 gig ram-upgraded myself and an old onboard Intel 900 series gfx, yada, running windows xp...
it runs on the web very quickly- but its on its last legs, powers on and off, screen flutters, it overheats ,etc .....
I have a dell studio 1735, I changed my first boot disk, to an ocz Agility 3 and put windows 7 64 bits on it.
I changed the two slots of memories to an no name (compatible dell products) 4gb X 2 running at 800mhz eaches.
Put the first time I started my computer, it said it have to format the new memories before it would start windows, I accept, then these problems appears...
1- The memory was formated to 667mhz (the totality of gb still there: 8128mb of memory)
2-Many lags came (from video (streaming and on disk) and from a repeat task over a hard disk (I got two disks the other be an hybrid hdd/ssd) giving an error and closing the explorator of windows)
So I want to know if possible to reformat the memory sticks to/or put them to their native configuration of 800mhz....
I would need a driver for the internal microphone on my Studio XPS 1640.
I am using Windows XP though.
Yesterday I flashed my 1737 to the A07 BIOS because DELL says it gets the machine ready for Windows 7.
Flash went perfect, machine works fine. Heres the problem.
the CPU runs very hot now, web surfing checking emails in the 40C to 47C range
when before with the A06 BIOS I only cracked 37C 39C was with lots of video and Gaming.
So I will be emailing DELL to see whats going on, I am very upset about this. Oh and the Fan wont stop running now. and I am at 37C on Core 0 and 33 on Core 1, which is Cool. But the fan does not stop.
I have a Studio 1737 running Windows Vista Home Service Pack 2. I'm running the latest BIOS and all of my drivers are up to date.
When the AC adapter is unplugged and I'm running on battery power the whole system lags. It also turns of when unplugged without warning after about 15 minutes.
Also, I get these error messages in my event viewer a couple of times an hour:
Log Name: System
Source: ACPI
Event ID: 13
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
I just installed the 185.20 beta driver (which supports the 8600m gt ddr3 without the need for a custom inf), I didnt have any crashing or glitching, and I will let the pic do the talking
this is the first stable 18X.XX driver I tried, and its weird that the 8600m gt doesn't need a modded inf lol
download the driver from LV2Go but dont download any modded infs because you dont need them
Installed Windows 7 as my main OS yesterday. Its a beta 1 but its a lot better than Vista in every way possible (supports the 185.20 Nvidia beta driver).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running a 7800 GTX with 84.69 DELL drivers and I get lots of nasty crashes in UT3 and other Unreal Engine 3 games like Frontlines:FOW. Sometimes its just a crash to desktop saying the application needs to be closed, others it says the video driver stopped responding and sets my desktop to 320x240x8-bit. Still other times I get the infamous nvdisp.dll BSOD.
I haven't yet replicated the crashes on newer drivers but that opens a whole other can of worms (freezing/hitching in-game, hangs on startup, worse performance).
I have an Inspiron 7010 which is 2 years old. In control panel devices it tells me to troubleshoot the laptop and cannot rectify problem with Broadcom virtual wireless adaptor. Secondly running the diagnostics say the Read test is not running. These are the only problems but are not affecting the efficiency of the PC. Should I ignore it?

I have got both 64 bit & 32 bit each burned to a bootable disc. But, before I even try, do I need some type of a product key to play around with the public release beta?
If so how do I get one?
I found it on strags.com today......and wanted to share it with all of you .....

View 15 Replies View RelatedI was wondering where the best place would be to find the newest beta drivers and possibly help with installing them.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI want to give Windows 7 a try on my 1737 right now it runs excellent and super fast on the Core 2 Duo T9400 6MB cache 1066 FSB and ATI 3650.
So everyone says Windows 7 Beta is even faster, than Vista I want to see this first hand.
The Catalyst 10.3 beta drivers have been leaked. They support Mobility Radeon cards.
I tried them on my VAIO FW (Win 7 / x64) and they worked (even though Sony asked ATI not to be included in their driver program)
What the likelihood of me being able to do this?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd give it a world. Xp and Vista run just great on my 2.53 Unibody Macbook Pro.
Not 7 though. Installation went just great, so did the Boot Camp drivers. No errors, no nothing, it was perfect.
Until I tried to hook up my Razer Pro|Click Mobile bluetooth mouse. W7 tried to connect to Windows Update, because it couldn't see the mouse at all. By default, 7 configures the computer to NOT BE discoverable. I unchecked the little tick box and again, tried to hook up the mouse.
It didn't work. Then I figured I'd take my dad's Microsoft USB Mouse. Your generic Microsoft USB mouse, right? Wrong. Windows 7 wants to connect to Windows Update to search for drivers. For an USB mouse? Made by Microsoft? So I let it, it searches Windows Update for 10-15 minutes, to find nothing.
I tried my external HDD through USB and it worked just fine. So it wasn't an Apple drivers thing with the USB.
So no Microsoft generic mouse. Okay, I found a really old LG mouse, still USB, plugged it in, next second, ZOMG I HAZ A MAUS. The crappy old LG mouse worked like a charm.
Okay, next issue: external display. I hook up my 22" LG W2234S. W7 mirrors the two screens. My external resolution is 1680x1050 though. I mess around in W7's display settings and when I hit "apply" after changing the setting from "mirror" to "dual-display", my LG goes into sleep mode. WTH? And now there's no more LG display in my list. W7 can not see my external display anymore............
after i do install the windows 7 rc i plan on giving my mother this macbook in mid july. I plan on doing a full system restore. bAsically whipe out the entire HD and reinstall os x. If i do this will it wipe out my w7rc? i would like her to have a good amount of HD space and dont want the RC on here at all when i do it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone have a quick reference guide to downloading/installing Windows 7 Beta on the macbook pro?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just want to have some programs like Windows Live Mail and MSN Messenger on my mac since they are WAY easier to use on windows (Especially the brand new 2009 versions!!!!)
So a couple question for you guys:
-How do I install Windows 7 Beta on my MacBook? (Which Virtualization Software is the best? VMware vs Parallels seem to be famous)
-How long will Windows 7 Beta last before its closed? (usually a couple months between closing and release)
-How much battery power will this setup suck up?
-Anybody already doing this?
