Nov 14, 2009Does anyone have any idea if these "high" prices right now will dip before Black Friday? I did online chat with a rep but they refused to lower any prices this way.

View 3 RepliesI went to the www.dell.com.au website tonight to see how much the Xt2 was going to cost. $4,100 for a the minimum specifications!!!
You have got to be joking.
I can get the HP TX2Z for $1500 and that has multitouch!
Here is the article from Economic Times of India,
COMPUTERmajor Dell India has been issued notice by a district consumer court here for allegedly over-pricing products and supplying a faulty laptop to a customer.
A consumer court in Shalimar Bagh, while issuing notice to Dell India earlier this week, asked the firm to file its response by December 21, the next date of hearing.
The court was hearing the plea of Archer Softech Pvt Ltd through its advocate Ankur Raheja, who alleged that the Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop it bought for Rs 69,164 (Approx $1440) turned out to be faulty. He also said that the company was not ready to replace or repair the product.
Been looking for a replacement for my d430 and have been considering the adamo or e4200/4300.
In some cases, the prices of these models are up to 80% more expensive in canada than in the US. What gives? I expect to pay a bit of a premium in Canada but this is rediculous.
Does anyone have any clue why this would be the case or does it just suck to be canadian sometimes?
I have a Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7. Recently, when I open an application (ex. Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately out of warranty ....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a brand new customized Sony VGN-Z890FKB. The sales representative of the website where I bought it from, states all their models come with the Premium Carbon Fibre lid, however I find it very hard to tell the difference between the two.
Nowhere it is indicated that this one has the carbon fibre lid. On the side of the box it says B (Black) so I got confused.
The lid is black indeed, if I look close enough I see small silverish specs mixed with the black, even on the bottom side of the laptop. The palmrest/keyboard area is a darker black without silverish specs in it.
A friend of mine has a Sony SZ and there you can tell it is a black Carbon Fibre lid (black with a hint of purple in it - when you angle the laptop from one light source to the other + you somewhat see horizontal lines on the lid of the Sony SZ).
Also if you look carefully on the sonystyle site, you see those same horizontal-like lines on the Carbon Fibre Black lid of the Sony Z contrary to the Black plastic lid.
How can one tell whether his Sony laptop has a carbon fibre or black plastic lid?
My VGN-S1XP has today developed two unusual black spots on the screen, one I found this afternoon, and the other has only appeared within the last few hours.
But these are NOT dead pixels, the pixels are functioning correctly, and when viewed from different angles this is obvious.
The marks appear to be behind the pixels, at first when there was just one I wondered if an insect had found it's way in there. The other spot however, is decidedly not insect shaped
difference between premium black carbon and regular black for fiber carbon
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought the 14z in black chainlink yesterday, and I was reading about how "magnetic" it was towards fingerprints, and also how the colored versions could be "that" much better.
Is it a different material or is it just how much the fingerprints show?
On the Canadian dell site there is a picture of an all black Studio (15 or 17??)
http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/prod...n&s=dhs&~ck=mn
What options to i need to select to get this set up
Looking at ordering a Studio 1557 and I'm hoping someone can confirm that the standard 'chainlink black' finish is shiny piano black?
Also do people find it scratches very easily?
I'm looking for a glossy, bright, rich color screen that has really, really deep blacks. There were some comments in the RGBLED settings thread that the blacks don't get very black on this screen. Is that true?
Would a white LED screen have better blacks? I don't care about photo work, I just want the best looking screen for games and movies.
I bought this in 2005 and used it since then. One day I left it on and went away for couple minutes and the screen turned black when I came back.
I thought it was in hibernation but after restarting, the screen is still black. I can connect to my LCD TV via VGA cablle and see it fine.
If I turn off all the lights and shine a flashlight into it, I can see the desktop with all icons on it in super dark background.
I don't smell anything burning. So my question is what's really wrong with it? My guess is either the blacklight or the inverter
How black is your RGBLED screen? If you look at the black screen (say, black desktop background) in a completely dark room, is the screen uniformly black? Mine has some slightly brighter "shadows" (well, it's actually the opposite of a shadow) towards the middle of the screen. Granted, this is a tough test for a laptop LCD, but for that kind of money I would have expected more. My M90 certainly does better in that regard, but I do seem to recall that the screen on that laptop had a similar issue, and did improve over time.
So, is what I am seeing normal, or should I get them to give me a new LCD?
3 different Latitude D810's that we wanted to add some life to. So we purchased 3 SSD drives,
two 64GB IDE/ATA Transcend MLC based units and 1 RiData 16GB SLC IDE/ATAunit. (Yes, the SLC is far faster with writing than the MLC drives).
Using our standard image, everything works fine. Except when removing the power cord from the back of the unit, it goes to a black screen, any hard drive (SSD drive) activity ceases.
When doing the same thing with a traditional hard drive, the screens blip black for a brief moment, but the computer keeps running as expected.
Which color do you prefer?
White
(OR)
Black
(OR)
Red
I have just added Red for those who were demanding it and I wouldn't mind the Red now as well
I'm pretty sure I'm going to order this week...but I can't decide if I should get the black or the red.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a three year old E1705 and after several minutes using it the screen flickers a tad bit then goes black.
I can shut if off but it will not go back to normal until it wants to. Sometimes this is a half hour or sometimes several hours almost as if it is to hot but the CPU temp is normaly 45 C to 50 C.
i bought it from a friend who said the display had stopped working so first off i plugged it into an external moniter and it worked great so thought graphics card is ok must be lcd or inverter bought an inverter still no good figured lcd so i purchased a new one plugged it all up no good last thing i tried an lcd ribbon and its still not doing anything its beating me up now what else could it be

I've spent all my budget on upgrades so I've left the colour in standard black chainlink. Been googling for some photos,
I actually love the glossy black lit with the little chainlink patterns on. But what I don't like, in fact, REALLY don't like, is the fact that they've added the pattern in GREY on the palmrest inside?!

2 days ago, when starting my computer (Windows logo after POST), my screen suddenly went black. After 20 seconds it changed to my external screen as normal. This made me suspicious as my screen usually goes black only for 2-3 seconds during startup.
After startup I tried changing back to the internal WUXGA screen on the laptop by pressing FN+F8.
What happened then was that from the left side of the laptop, I heard this weird high-frequency scratching sound. The screen went on for a fraction of a second ( I could see the desktop ) but then it instantly went black again.
What can be causing this?
I installed the WUXGA screen myself about half a year ago. Can this be caused by loose cable connection or something like that?
I own a Dell XPS 13 - L321X ultrabook (out of warranty). All of a sudden when waking it up the display went black and even after hard booting the machine it doesn't come back to life. What could be the reason and how to fix it?
Should I open the laptop and remove battery? Could it be a BIOS corruption issue?
I tried connecting to the external display but nothing shows up there as well.
i wanna buy the new dell latitude E4300 13.3 inch screen...

while replacing the top cover on my XPS m1530 i broke the little black securing tab that attaches the central control cover cable to the connector .....
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday while I was on my XPS 1530 laptop, the colors on the screen turned all screwy and then it crashed to blue screen. Odd...
It happened about 5 more times until when I tried to turn on my computer, the backlight on the screen would go on, but the screen itself would remain black.
I can actually hear it booting up normally, it even makes the window log-in noise, but there is simply no image on the screen at all. I even hooked up my external monitor to my laptop, but absolutely nothing comes up on it.
why, there is a black dot in my lcd panel, the dot can be seen whether the lcd turn on or turn off, are there a leaked of my lcd liquid? can the forums help me, cause i'm a girl, and i do not know about notebook, cause i had used it for about 2 weeks,
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a dell xps m170 (2 and a half years old) and last 2 days im getting "funky" display problems...
Initially i got a black screen while in windows...nothing to do but reboot. That worked a couple of times...then after rebooting i get a "whiteish" screen that gradually got blacker from outside in..id say it looked like dark storm clouds
I also noticed that the laptop had gotten a lot hotter than normal...this had been gradually happening over time...so much so that i invested in a laptop case / pad to rest it on while working on it..anyways..after reading some threads here i grabbed some monitoring software and logged GPU temps of 70 spiking to 90ish...CPU from 55 to 90's...
Then the funniest thing happened, in order to boot up and avoid the "whiteish" screen and boot into windows i noticed if i attached an external monitor it worked more than if i didnt !! (no idea if this is relevant).
When i did get into windows...it'd look normal for a while, 10 mins or so..then go black (flicker) and id get a diff display res appear (bigger icons n such)..then what i can only describe as red..sometims yello dots, maybe 4 across (width ways ..like bars of them) running the full length of the screen...
Again after reading some threads decided to run the dell diag...That showed me some errors when it did the video test(i think)
Quote:
Error Code : 5300:0119. Detected a failure while writing and reading video memory. Video mode DH (320x200x16) Address A0044h expected to read 0h but read 101010h instead
he above error message was repeated quite a lot with different references to numbers...
Am i screwed ?? Do i have any options at all...Must point out im NOT a gamer at all...so graffix card isnt an issue, if indeed i can replace it?
Is there anyway I could buy a black keyboard to replace the tacky silver one on my XPS M1530 notebook?
And if so anyone got a link or a part number to the one I would want that would fit and work properly?
I've decided to just spiff up my current machine verses buying a new one as Dell is missing tons of options for customizing notebooks lately and I'm tired of waiting around for them.
Also, I'm assuming it's fairly easy to remove the old keyboard? I'm guessing a few of the screws on the bottom of the notebook are the keyboard screws although I'm not sure which ones they are
When I start up my laptop the Windows splash screen loads but with vertical lines then the screen shows random fuzzy lines and colours and then the screen goes completely black and nothing happens.
At first I restarted and ran in Safe Mode and ran CCleaner which after restarting worked for a short period but then would suddenly go to a black screen and one occasion went to a blue screen with the following message
