May 5, 20101) Notebook Cover -> which is best? black or White?. Will the white get dull and stained over time?, Does the black look like cheapy plastic?. Does the black look like the ones on the black Inspirons because I think those do look nasty?
2) Built-In Broadband card (Wireless 5540 Mobile Broadband HSDPA Mini-Card ) -> how is the reception of these units compared to the USB dongle ones?. Is Access to where they are installed at the bottom of the notebook hence not voiding waranty if i decide to install at a later date? or Am I just better off getting one off ebay at a cheaper price?
Dell Inspiron 1525 :: Laptop Black Screen With White Cursor
Feb 12, 2013I have a Dell 1525 laptop which will not boot beyond the Dell logo, I get a black screen with a white cursor. I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.Â

Mar 25, 2013I recent;y installed a version of windows on my Dell Laptop, Inspiron 6000. I worked for a week or two then when I turned it on a couple days ago, it won't go pass the black screen with the blinking white line. A user some where on this site on an other post that had similar problems said that  it to re-install and delete the existing partition and create another one with 120GB. I did but when creating another partition, I tried to type in the 122880 MB (122880MB = 120GB), and upon pressing ENTER, the numbers 122880 goes back to the number of MB of the partition disk space I had previously. I hope this all make sense. I do not have the money to buy another laptop. I have a Windows XP CD, but not the original. The laptop worked fine before with this version.
To fix the blinking line on the start-up black screen, all I need to do is to re-install windows XP and change the partition to 120GB. But every time I try to change the number of MB, it doesn't work but reverts back to the original number. Is there another way to fix the blinking-white-line-on-the-start-up-screen?
Also, I tried to use the repair control...doesn't work.

Nov 8, 2012I have a screen problem on my Laptop, on start-up it shows a white screen with black lines (Picture below) only happens once every 5-10 start-ups. Only happens for 5-10 Secs & sorts itself out before it boots up.
Other time it happens is when I'm using the internet, the screen just sticks, but then when I move the screen, it stops.

Aug 14, 2009Just installed Visa 64 , everything went fine , but every time i boot into Vista i get a black screen with a white cursor in the top left have corner flashing very fast and it does this for almost 60 seconds and then Vista boots normally.
I have tried unplugging everything from my Mac , but i still get the same problem.
It looks like Vista is wating for something then it gives up, I have not installed any software only the bootcamp driver.
Anybody know what is wrong, I had Xp on previously and did not have this problem on fat32 , Vista only works on NTFC if that makes a difference.

Oddly, when it does work (which is rare), the "to interrupt normal startup, press enter" appears. Everytime it works, that phrase would appears.

The only components I have connected to this laptop are ethernet cable for internet, USB hub, and external drive hooked up through PC slot on the side.

Dec 14, 2011A few days ago I fired up my dv6 Pavilion 3240us and it did something weird. The colors are sort of out of whack. Bright white area show as Cyan and dark areas (black) are a sort of Burgundy or deep red. I can adjust the contrast down a little and the brightness down to -13 and the cyan mostly goes away, but the dark areas are even more more red.

I update the Catalyst app and drivers and did a complete update of Windows 7 (which took around 24 hours and it still wants more time) to no avail.

How did it happen? One day it was working perfectly and it shut down normally. The next day it was screwed up. Nothing happened to the machine between those times. I would show you pictures but I've found that screenshots of it look normal on other machines, eg: my desktop.

At one point yesterday when I tried playing a game on it the problen suddenly cleared up. That lasted for a few minutes before reverting the the screwed up state.

I am writing this on it; it does work. But trying to look at videos or most pictures or games it looks really wild, many times too strange to see what's going on.

Feb 28, 2010When I go on the Dell website (both Canadian and American, although I am in Canada) and I customize one of these laptops with the rgbLED display, as soon as I switch the system colour to any other colour than the default black the rgbLED switches to a WLED, but the cost stays the same.
Is this a glitch, when it says WLED does it actually mean rgbLED? (or else why does it still cost the same) I was curious because I was definitely getting interested in the rgbLED, but I would much rather have the laptop in white.
Dell XPS L702X :: Flickering White Then Screen Turns White?
Mar 19, 2013I have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.
I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.
I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.

Dec 6, 2011I have a Dell Studio Laptop, Model PP39LThe laptop has a fully charged battery and is plugged in. The Led on the battery plug (going into the computer) lights blue.When I press the power button the screen will flash white for a second and then nothing (no beeps either). The little white led on the computer by the power jack will light up white for a second and then turn off as well.This has happened in the past but it just worked after leaving it alone for a few hours.Â
I haven't turned the laptop off since this incident. I've been putting it in stand by/ sleep mode and everything was fine. I was also able to restart the computer with no problems. It's just when I power down when this happens.The keyboard recently froze (new issue) and I had no choice but to reboot by powering down. Now it won't turn on. I have never spilled anything on the laptop. Nor have I dropped it or caused any other damage to it. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the motherboard.

Apr 4, 2013I have a Dell Studio 1557.  When I attempt to power on the laptop nothing happens. I can see a white blinking power light and nothing else.  There is no other signs of life, the fans do not come on and the CD-ROM cannot be used.
It seems like the AC adapater is working as I can see the blue light around the connector.

Jan 2, 2015My wife was on her Studio 1550 the other night. I moved the laptop a little bit so she could show me something. When I moved it, the screen went white and then it quite working. The back of the laptop and the mouse pad got real hot and smelled hot.
It will not power up at all now with the battery or the power cord. It will not do anything when you press the power button. When the power cord is plugged in the laptop continues to get very hot and actually smoked a little bit once.
What happened to the laptop or if it can be fixed? Did the motherboard get fried somehow?

The cable recently came out of the VGA port and when I plugged it back in there is now a black strip at each side of the screen and the image doesn’t go across the full width any more. In display settings I’ve got the monitor set at the highest resolution possible, 1440x900, but this makes no difference (I’m on Windows 7).

Apr 16, 2013I was using my Studio 1537 when it suddenly shut down. I rebooted and the console media lights lit up and it sounded like it was restarting as normal but the screen remained black. I have tried a number of internet: restarting holding F12, restarting holding Fn+F8, removing battery and AC power & holding power key for 30 seconds - 1 minute and then restarting and also holding D while restarting to run screen diagnostics. I can see the coloured screens flash through but none of these ideas have restarted the monitor it remains black.

Apr 10, 2013I got the "ATI display driver has stopped responding and has recovered from an error" several times over the last couple of days where my screen would freeze for a couple of second and then start working again and would display that message. I thought little of it as it did always seem to work afterwards.
Last night however it got extremely frequent happening at least once a minute and i decided to try and restart my computer to see if that would work. Now when I try to turn the computer on the screen stays black and will not do anything. I can hear that the computer trying to work as the fans are going and the power light is on, it's just the screen that isn't working.

I found these guides on how to fix the error message but at the moment both are no good as I can't even use my computer to fix the problem as the screen won't work.
I am pretty sure the reason my computer is doing this is because of outdated drivers as I recently did a fresh install of windows and only installed the drivers that came on the CD I was given with my computer. I should have downloaded the latest drivers online.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I am unsure of the graphics card at the moment as I can't access the computer but I know that it is an ATI of some sort.
