I hear white noise / static noise (whatever is the proper term for that) when using headphones with Studio XPS 1640. It is most audible when no sound or music is being played from the laptop.
I'm not if it has something to do with the type of headphones that I am using (I have two sets of Creative earphones that I got together with my XPS M1210 and 1530).
i know the earphones will work but will the noise cancellation feature work?
or is the noise cancellation feature dependent on software/hardware in the vaio laptop?
I have been having problem with my laptop, lately. For some strange reason, the hard drive would make a loud revving noise. I've even completely replaced it, and as I was installing the new OS, the NEW hard drive began to rev loudly!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI received my Inspiron 7537 1080 3 weeks ago. Everything works perfectly except the static noise after connecting headphones. Tried different headphones,latest drivers nothing worked. Dell has sent an engineer to look at the problem. He replaced entire motherboard but the noise is still there. I tried Bluetooth headphones and external sound card but this hissing noise is always there in the background. I am thinking about getting another one after refund but not sure if this static noise is present in all models or was this only one off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new M3800 Precision Workstation that is making a really annoying sound when it is plugged into power and when the SSD is being accessed, mostly when it is being accessed randomly such as search, VM running, or just random file access test from benchmarking software. The pitch of the scratchy sound varies with screen brightness.

I have a VGN-NS135E and at random times there is a staticy sound coming from the speakers like bad reception on a radio. It happens randomly it seems regardless if i'm listening to music or not.
It happens with the volume on and on mute. I can hear audio just fine. When the speakers decide to make that static noise the audio is clear, just mixed with static
I just got an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop a few days ago and everything is great, except for this static noise coming from the speaker. It kind of sounds like when you have your TV on a blank screen, but you have the volume as high as it goes. Every now and then there's a little pop or crack sound too. Some important things to note:
- It was a refurb
- The noise immediately stops when the volume is muted
- All drivers are up to date
- If I go into the volume settings, I can slide the volume all the way over to the right side, and the noise stops, but any amount of volume going through the left side and the noise is back
- The noise is the same at any volume level
- If I plug in headphones, there is no noise through the headphones, it only happens on the speakers
At first I thought it wasn't anything big, just a driver update or just a matter of breaking the laptop in, but now after a few days it's starting to get annoying. I don't want to leave the sound on mute all the time, and even when I am listening to audio I can still hear this noise.
For the Yoga 2 Pro owners out there, how much static do you have in your headphone jack? Â I am loving everything about this laptop except for some noticeable static at low volumes and some backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen. Â I have tried two different headsets, my Senheiser HD 280 Pros and my Etymotic earbuds.

if anyone has had sound issues with their DV5? I have the current bios F13 and have un-installed and reinstalled sound drivers and such. What is happening is the sound will randomly make a static boom noise and then go away and then do it again.. i have checked my external speaks and have even replaced them thinking it was them.. it is not since it is happening with my onboard speakers as well. So this static boom sound is a constant annoyance along with music sounding rather off/staticy..
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a new Lenovo Ultra Dock 170w and have power logitech speakers hooked up to the dock using the audio port. When the laptop is off or removed from the dock, I get a what sounds like static coming through my speakers fairly loud. Â I prevously had a T500 and a dock in the same configuration without this issue.Â

I have removed the dock power and still get the audio distortion. I have to completely remove all connected wires aside from audio before the noise go away. I am thinking there is a grounding issue with the audio jack on the Ultra Dock. Only happens with powered external speakers... I have tried with other speakers and get the same noise over them too. Â
Im having a problem trying to get my built in mic working. I have a new Studio 17 with the Creative Sound enhancement option, not the sound card just the Creative Audigy software.
when I try to record voice, I can barely hear my voice over the noise which sounds like a mixture of static, and buzzing mixed in. However, I can play mp3's perfectly with no hiss or static. So the playback is working fine.
When I plugged an external mic in the static is gone. I'd like to be able to use the built in mic when possible so I dont have to take the external one along with me.
I noticed on my system that I have an IDT High Definition sound package, as well as the Creative Audigy sound enhancing software with mixer console, including EAX special effects, etc, to enhance the sound.
Anyone know what could be causing the noise on the mic? I've searched the forum and cant find a problem identical to this so Im sorry if theres a post that explains how to fix this, I cant find it.
I can adjust my sound with both the IDT HD mixer console, and the Creative Audigy sound mixer as well. But I cannot eliminate or find the cause of this static.
I got a newer Sigmatel Audio driver but that didnt elminate the problem so I set the system back to the way I got it.
I thought about buying the X fi Xtreme sound card as I do a lot of karaoke singing and need to have the music mixed with voice so I can record it but this static problem has me baffled. And they want $80 for that little sound card. I could ignore it but the laptop is brand new and it should be static free. I eliminated ac hum as the source by unplugging the ac adapter and ran on battery alone, and static was the same it made no difference.
My friend just gave me her White Macbook pre 2007 i beleive to fix because i fix all her computers but this is the first time im trying to fix a mac . Upon pressing the power button im greeted by the BONG tone and a white screen. Then i start hearing the HD making some very messed up noises witch to me are the fimiliar sound of a hd failure and so i beleive this is the problem. After a minute or two i get a flashing folder with a ? on it witch means it can't find the system files it needs to boot. So i tryed booting from the Tiger discs but it will not boot. Now this is leading me to beleive that it is the logic board. Right now im waiting till morning to buy a torx t8 so i can replace the HD.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I go on the Dell website (both Canadian and American, although I am in Canada) and I customize one of these laptops with the rgbLED display, as soon as I switch the system colour to any other colour than the default black the rgbLED switches to a WLED, but the cost stays the same.
Is this a glitch, when it says WLED does it actually mean rgbLED? (or else why does it still cost the same) I was curious because I was definitely getting interested in the rgbLED, but I would much rather have the laptop in white.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.
I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.
I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.
do you think it's worth paying the extra £90 for the white LED display?

The Led on the battery plug (going into the computer) lights blue.When I press the power button the screen will flash white for a second and then nothing (no beeps either). The little white led on the computer by the power jack will light up white for a second and then turn off as well.This has happened in the past but it just worked after leaving it alone for a few hours.Â
I haven't turned the laptop off since this incident. I've been putting it in stand by/ sleep mode and everything was fine. I was also able to restart the computer with no problems. It's just when I power down when this happens.The keyboard recently froze (new issue) and I had no choice but to reboot by powering down. Now it won't turn on. I have never spilled anything on the laptop. Nor have I dropped it or caused any other damage to it. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the motherboard.
I have a Dell Studio 1557.  When I attempt to power on the laptop nothing happens. I can see a white blinking power light and nothing else.  There is no other signs of life, the fans do not come on and the CD-ROM cannot be used.
It seems like the AC adapater is working as I can see the blue light around the connector.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 13. Laptop is about 3-4 years old and everything was fine until yesterday. I was working on my laptop and suddenly my screen went white and the laptop shutdown after a few seconds (3-4) and it smelled like something burned down. I tried to power it on after few minutes and it went on, the hdd signal lamp was blinking but when the display should show the dell logo the computer shut's itself down.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife was on her Studio 1550 the other night. I moved the laptop a little bit so she could show me something. When I moved it, the screen went white and then it quite working. The back of the laptop and the mouse pad got real hot and smelled hot.
It will not power up at all now with the battery or the power cord. It will not do anything when you press the power button. When the power cord is plugged in the laptop continues to get very hot and actually smoked a little bit once.
What happened to the laptop or if it can be fixed? Did the motherboard get fried somehow?
I just got a Dell Studio 15 from the Dell outlet and while it's a great laptop I am wondering about the fan. It runs constantly and you can definitely hear it the whole time.
When I opened the media player it revved up a little but I wasn't even playing a video. Is this fan noise and constantly running fan normal for the Dell Studio 15?
I love the laptop but I think it is louder than usual and find it odd that the fan runs all the time. The bios installed is A05.
I have the model with an ATI video card if that makes any difference.
Just received my Studio 15 today and it's a nice looking machine but the fan seems to run more often than I'd like. I've updated the BIOS to A03, the most current, but it doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

It does occasionally slow down or off, but seems completely random. Right now I see core temps at 35 and 37, with fans at full speed.

Suppose I purchase one today at full retail price. Then, in say a week, there's a 20% (or whatever) coupon that comes out, or they go on sale.
Can I call Dell and ask for the difference? I know they have a 21 (or whatever) day return policy, so I would imagine the sale or coupon would have to come within that time frame.
Another question: Does the return policy time begin when I order or when it ships or when I receive it? .

I've recently received my dell studio 1749 laptop with the following specs,
- i5 CPU 520m
- 4 gigs of RAM
- Intel HD graphics
- 320 gig HD
The problem with this laptop is that the fan will start to whine every few minutes seemly without reason.
I've done some investigation and found out the following:
- there seems be a threshold of 35 to 36 degrees celsius. Once the CPU hits that temperature, the fan will start to cool it down to under 30 degrees
- the idle temperature of the CPU is always creeping up, even without load. If I leave the computer alone at idle with almost no CPU activity, the temperature will creep up to the threshold...thus triggering fan.
the cycle repeats itself every few minutes.
I've attached a picture to illustrate the problem.
Since this is my first laptop, I want to ask does the CPU temperature stay constant during idle? or does it creep up like mine?
Can the threshold be modified?
Is this normal with the dell studio?
