Sony :: Noise Cancelling Earphones With New Z Work In Any Device
Mar 23, 2010i know the earphones will work but will the noise cancellation feature work?
or is the noise cancellation feature dependent on software/hardware in the vaio laptop?

I hear white noise / static noise (whatever is the proper term for that) when using headphones with Studio XPS 1640. It is most audible when no sound or music is being played from the laptop.
I'm not if it has something to do with the type of headphones that I am using (I have two sets of Creative earphones that I got together with my XPS M1210 and 1530).
I got a little e-shopping happy tonight, and purchased a refurbished M1330 on Dell Outlet. I previously had a M1210 and that thing was a tank, so I went ahead and went for the "newer line".
Anyhow, so I've been spending the past hours after my purchase (I know, stupid idea) on reading how the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS and the GPU would be causes for failure and heat issues. I usually run heavy web-cam chatting programs, AutoCAD, and wanted to get back into some light computer gaming (hence the decision to purchase the NVIDIA graphics), but now grow concerned.
First, is it worth it to go ahead with my order? With the Dell Outlet coupon, the price I paid was pretty decent (around $700~), but with all the issues and the multi-page thread about GPU/NVIDIA problems, has me iffy. Yes I know there is a 1-year warranty, and yes I know there are some fix-attempts, but I just feel uncertain. The XPS line is suppose to be the best, and it should carry the comfurt of its class.
Second, since I placed my order with Dell Outlet after 5PM (PST and about 2 hours ago), and it has not yet been "shipped", is it possible even though my order has been "acknowledged and confirmed" to cancel it? And what would I be looking at in regards to getting my money back (since its already a "pending charge" on my account).
Any input is great appreciated. If I cancel the order on the M1330, I probably would be looking at a Vaio FW series I've been lurking on.
Ever since i've wiped the machine, i've been having these two problems. When I close the lid, it used to go to sleep straight away, but now I can see the sleep light (and the power button) flash and flash, then it goes to sleep.
When waking up it goes through the lenovo startup screen and resuming windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and it would ask me for the password straight away. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep straight away when I closed and opened it, but now it just takes too long.
Also, everytime I boot up into windows or resume into windows from a sleep state, I can hear the device noise, like something is being plugged in/out. But there is nothing being plugged in or out at the time. I can't get to device manager quick enough to see what it is that is causing it. But all drivers seem okay.
Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (hear the beep) an then turns back off again.

I have tried everything to get this SD card reader to work but to no avail. Even a fresh install of W7/32 ... nothing... Every time i insert an SD card in the slot... i get a message. USB device not recognized ... one of the usb devices has malfunctioned & Windows does not recognize it... I am also just using a 2 g SD card not an sdhc card.
In the Device Manager.... it shows up as "unknown device" yellow highlight... try to update the driver ... says i already have the best driver..... when i take the sd card out...unknown device disappears... i have also re-installed the drivers from here for the card reader... but nothing....
Furthermore... it seems to lead to an error code 43 ..
I have a big problem on my Lenovo U310, my wecamera doesn't work, i don't manage to find neither in device manager and i've tried to reinstall all the drivers, even with recovery button but with zero results.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am considering moving from my older MacBook Pro to a Sony FW, but I'm curious as to how loud it is as well as how usable it is on your lap
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery minute or so, I'll hear what sounds somewhat like the loud tick of a clock coming more or less from the left side of my laptop. I can't tell if it's fan or hd related, but it's extremely annoying. It's definitely internal, and it's not coming out of the speakers (system volume is set to zero to eliminate feedback possibility). If I had to identify the sound source, it would seem to be coming from somewhere between the Tab and F8 keys. Weird, I know, but that's the best I can describe it.

2.8Ghz with the bluray drive. I've upgraded it from Vista64 to Win7 RTM.
Even at "silent mode" the fan is louder than my 17" MacBook Pro or my 15" Thinkpad W500.
That seems...wrong. It's blowing hot air out even when the machine is just sitting there doing absolutly nothing. It's sitting next to me on my desk next to the W500 (which is dead silent running discrete graphics). It's in STAMINA mode, running in SILENT, and still loud.
This will be a fun return as I am going to fight the 15% as the sales guy told me it was a quiet machine.
How loud is the new Z under normal, everyday use? My sister has a pre-unibody Macbook pro, which is pretty quite. I can only hear the fan when the room is completely silent. Can the Z match that?
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis seems to be a common problem with Vaio notebooks, especially the SZ series.
I've had an SZ460 for a couple of years, and I'm starting to have problems with the fan. It's not the loud buzzing noise you hear when the processor is overworked. It's more like a rattling noise. I took the fan/heatsink out completely and cleaned it with a can of air, but the problem still persists. I have a feeling the bearings are shot.
The only replacement fans I could find are on eBay for $30-40, and they appear used. Where can I find an OEM fan for this notebook?
I recently bought a Sony Vaio FW. I found that the Blu-ray ROM (which is a Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500s) is extremely noisy (I am not a very picky person, but the noise is very annoying and even disturbing my video watching.) Anyone with similar experience? Anyone has ever requested Sony to change a new Blu-ray ROM which is quieter? Which manufacturer of the blu-ray should be quieter?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop since early December and have noticed a noise coming from the fan. It sounds like a faint siren sound or whirring. I know that's probably an odd description but that's what it reminds me of. It's not terribly loud but just loud enough to be distracting sometimes.
This only happens when I'm not running a lot of stuff (just using Word for example) but when the fan cycles up that noise goes away. Unfortunately, I'm just using Word about 90% of the time so I hear this noise. It will make the noise for a second, then go away for a few seconds, then return.
I called Sony just to ask if there was some kind of setting (I don't know) that could be changed. They said it sounds like the fan needs to be replaced, and set up a home service call. The guy came, changed the fan and...same noise.
I've found a few references to odd-sounding fans on Sony laptops. But I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that this noise is normal and I'll just have to put up with it?
I have FZ21S with original Vista Home. The only reason I didnt settle for XP was exactly the dimmer noise, any other setting than full brightness had the annoying noise.
It wasnt the case on Vista, used it for over a year without issues but since couple of days I have it on Vista too. It is the kind of dimmer or broken fluorescent lamp kind of buzz.
I doubt it is hardware fault, more likely something messed up with the Nvidia driver.
Another Nvidia driver , it is the latest Sony Support update - 7.15.11.6760
I wanted a quiet laptop along the lines of the T400 or the macbook pros. These are quiet enough for me. I owned a Vaio Z in early 2009 that I got rid of purely b/c of the fan noise. Can anyone tell me if the newest models or a vaio fan control type of software or BIOS upgrade has made the VAIO Z series quiet? Otherwise this was a great laptop.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just downgraded my T7200 CPU to an T2300 so that the CPU temperature could go down. And that it did. from 68 degrees to 45 degrees in idle but stil the fan is going at it at full speed even at 45 degrees.
I found a post on this forum were a person says that the BIOS has to flashed whit an modede version of the bios file. But how do I make a moded bios?
Its from this topic that I found out that the BIOS has to be changed so that the fan only runs when it needs to and not when it works under normal idle CPU loads:
SZ fan noise?
getting my Sony VGN-SZ48GN fan noise down to a reasonable level?
why is C1E disable on the VGN-SZ48GN and how do I enable it?
I've recently purchased Sony Vaio FW21E (European model) and to my surprise, I find it quite noisy (contrary to what you can read in many reviews).
The first problem is HDD - I've owned 3 notebooks so far and no one had such a noisy disk. I almost thought that there is some kind of motherboard or GPU fan in there until I opened the case to confirm that the noise really comes from the HDD. It is quite unpleasant in a totally quiet room (like in the night) but I can hear it even during evenings when the room is relatively quiet. Vaio owners with Toshiba MK3252GSX disk (320GB), do you experience the same amount of noise? (On the upside, the performance is really nice compared to my older laptops, Windows Experience Index being 5.4.)
The second problem is the main fan (which I understand is the only fan on this Vaio). It is quiet for the first hour of usage or so but then it always turns on for about 5 minutes, then it's quiet for another 2-3 minutes, then it goes off again etc. etc. I really find this annoying because the fan speed is changing frequently and rapidly (i.e. from zero to high spinning, then it slowly goes down to what I would call acceptable level, then it stops rotating immediately; then it goes of for 100% again etc.)
When you combine these 2 noises, the notebook is quite unpleasant to use in quiet conditions. From the right hand side where the disk is placed, you constantly hear a whisper-like sound while from the left side, you are distracted by the main fan which tends to be turned on and off in a few minutes intervals..........
I recently noticed a high pitched noise coming from what seems like my screen. I have a VGN-FW w/ a T9600, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics with 1GB dedicated video RAM, the extra-wide HD display, and a blue ray burner. I noticed this noise while I was converting a few movies (wich I noticed was taking up 100% of my CPU) and now it seems to be ever present. The only way to get rid of the high-pitch noise is to either turn the brightness on the screen all the way down or continually move the screen-pushing it up and down and such. Whenever I stop moving the screen, the high pitched noise comes back.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIve had this laptop for 3 months and Im quite dissapointed about the fan noise - it is running constantly. My experience is that the fan is running in 3 modes: minimum (always), medium (short time) and max (when using graphics ex.). Sony Support told me that it is normal that the CPU fan is running when the computer is swithed on (=CPU on).
My experience with laptops though is that they are quiet all the time, but eventually starts the fan when using many applications (graphics ex.). The symptom is the same in Windows XP, Linux and FreeBSD. Is it normal behaviour - I mean, should it run constantly or occasionally?
I have a VGN-NS135E and at random times there is a staticy sound coming from the speakers like bad reception on a radio. It happens randomly it seems regardless if i'm listening to music or not.
It happens with the volume on and on mute. I can hear audio just fine. When the speakers decide to make that static noise the audio is clear, just mixed with static
I am trying to get how many of you are experiencing this issues.
that on low levels of brightness the LCD whines and makes a buzzing noise
I have 13 inch sony Z 820db laptop not very long ago, for some reason the fan makes quite a bit of noise compare to other models that i own(sony ns190d laptop). Is this suppose to be normal for this laptop? Does anyone else who has this laptop feels the fan noise for this laptop is sufficiently higher compare to other laptops? I can really feel the air pumping out when i place my hands near the ventilation and i only use the laptop for surfing on the net. no heavy application running what so ever. Also have a question about the battery life. They said the standard battery life could last up to 5.5 hours, but mines only last 3 and half hours even just surfing on net.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe whining or humming noise has been thoroughly discussed on this forum but I haven't been able to find out whether the noise impacts the recording. I'm a reporter who uses my mic input on a daily basis, so this is a HUGE deal for me. Can anyone who has experienced this microphone issue confirm whether the hum comes through in recorded audio?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've noticed on several occasions that the sound output is not restored after unplugging the noise-cancelling headphones. Volume up and down (via FN key) have no impact. Usually, Muting and then Unmuting resolves the issue, which seems to point to a driver issue.

Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.
