When I switch on my laptop, I can hear the noise as if it is running however, cannot see anything. I know it isn't the screen and have a feeling it is the motherboard /graphics card (I use a lot of 3D/graphics software). I want it to last me at least another 6-8 months before purchasing a new laptop.

When I press the power button again it's turn off.
I've already tryed to take out battery and press power bottom for 30 seconds but nothing happens.
My studio 1555 plays 6 beeps and shows a black screen wen i turn it on.
when it was working i was having a few problems with the video card as i kept getting a blue screen saying about it being faulty but i had ignored it and now the laptop wont work at all.
I have read on the internet and it sounds like the video card is built into the motherboard.
how do i find out which motherboard will fit in to replace and will it have the video card inside.
I have a Dell Inspiron PP41L when I turn it on I get the power light but nothing else. I can not hear the fan running and it has a black screen. I tried a hard reset, new battery, and charger.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's about my old notebook, hp pavilion dv7 1130el bought 5 years ago, it always wokerd fine but now its screen goes black without reasons... at first I thought it might be overheating, but that's totally random:
-sometimes works even when is hot
-sometimes goes blackafter I turn it on and then open google
-sometimes works for a while, when its not hot, and then goes black
I don't have a second monitor to connect it, but even if the screen goes black I can still hear the music from youtube, so I guess it's just the screen.

Is it the Mother board or the Harddrive? Replaced screen due to vertical and horizontal lines in color. Computer worked normal at times. I thought it was fixed but then while doing a HP diagnostic program the computer said to shut down because the batttery situation might harm the computer . I tested the AC adapter. I installed a new battery and at first it was working again. I updated and scanned with AVG & Malwarebytes. Did another HP diagnostic and at one point was told to restart. It never lived again to this point.
All it does is light up the power light and W/LAN (F 12). Blue lights are on at times indicating Cap locks and number locks are engaged. I did do a complete factory restore before it came to this point and updated the bios (to F 37) and downloaded updates for chipsets and Graphics also.(after screen installed) The only thing it does now is make noises at startup and power indicator is lit now Light keeps cycling.(light off, light on) in ten second intervals.
I have pavilion dv7, so far I had no problem. Now, when I login it logs in but then instead of showing me the home screen, it goes into blank black screen. It has just started to happen and I hope there is another way to make it work without rebooting the whole system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop (which came with windows 8) was working fine yesterday but whenever I try to turn it on today it shows the Dell logo briefly then goes to a black screen and remains like that. The F12 key works, but I can't change any settings as it will only let me highlight the diagnostics option. I've run diagnostics and recieved no error reports. Neither the F2 or F8 keys work, so I can't access BIOS or start in safe mode. I've tried removing the battery and unplugging the power.

Other time it happens is when I'm using the internet, the screen just sticks, but then when I move the screen, it stops.

hp support page for my laptop showed a newer bios available,so i installed it and from then my laptop shows black screen i.e it switches on and keeps blinking capslock twice and 2 sec interval and repeats.i searched the internet and found that twice capslock signifies bios failure.so i thougth of following the win+B method,but the problem here is,when i extracted my bios package sp*****.exe i have 2 *.bin files and i dont know where to paste them on my pendrive.
My Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.

In 2013, base of the laptop was broken and I had to replace it with a new one though there was no problem in hardware at all. Soon after the dell representative installed the new base and left my house I was facing a weird problem. When I power on the laptop, my screen gives a mild flash but does not start (6 out of 10 times, not always), but I can hear windows start up sound in the back ground. I use to press power button again to lock or stand by the laptop and then move my mouse. After performing this I can see the screen glows and log on screen shows up.
I was using my laptop like this for past 1.5 years as pressing a power button was no big deal. Today on the eve of new year, I saw my trick does not work any more. I was not able to start my screen even after repetitive attempts. But I remember I used it last night, display was really fine.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought inspiron N5110 laptop from about 8 months from middle east. From 5 months when I came to USA the laptop stop working. I tried to send it to dell as it was still in the warranty but they refused to take it because it had not an international warranty. I sent it to a technician in USA who told me that the motherboard is overheated. I got a motherboard that has the same part number and install it in the laptop.
The problem is that when I power it on some times the screen not display anything although it logs in windows as I hear the sound, and sometimes it log to windows and after about 15 min the screen stop working.
I do not know why it do this is this a problem in the new motherboard? or in the CPU?
I’ve got a Del Studio 1753 laptop and I use it with a separate LG flatron w2486L screen. The cable recently came out of the VGA port and when I plugged it back in there is now a black strip at each side of the screen and the image doesn’t go across the full width any more. In display settings I’ve got the monitor set at the highest resolution possible, 1440x900, but this makes no difference (I’m on Windows 7).

I rebooted and the console media lights lit up and it sounded like it was restarting as normal but the screen remained black. I have tried a number of internet: restarting holding F12, restarting holding Fn+F8, removing battery and AC power & holding power key for 30 seconds - 1 minute and then restarting and also holding D while restarting to run screen diagnostics. I can see the coloured screens flash through but none of these ideas have restarted the monitor it remains black.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got the "ATI display driver has stopped responding and has recovered from an error" several times over the last couple of days where my screen would freeze for a couple of second and then start working again and would display that message. I thought little of it as it did always seem to work afterwards.
Last night however it got extremely frequent happening at least once a minute and i decided to try and restart my computer to see if that would work. Now when I try to turn the computer on the screen stays black and will not do anything. I can hear that the computer trying to work as the fans are going and the power light is on, it's just the screen that isn't working.

I found these guides on how to fix the error message but at the moment both are no good as I can't even use my computer to fix the problem as the screen won't work.
I am pretty sure the reason my computer is doing this is because of outdated drivers as I recently did a fresh install of windows and only installed the drivers that came on the CD I was given with my computer. I should have downloaded the latest drivers online.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I am unsure of the graphics card at the moment as I can't access the computer but I know that it is an ATI of some sort.
I have had my Dell studio xps 1640 for around 2 years now, apart from the common overheating problems has been working fine.
Last night i powered down as usual after watching some live stream football, this morning went to start up again and the keyboard lights up & can hear the fan running but getting completely blank, black screen. It seems windows isn't loading up either as if i push the power button again it shuts down instantly.
I have always kept the inside clean and free of dust and really need to know what may need repairing. Could it be a Graphic or video card or Motherboard problem.
I have also tried the usual checks of memory but have not tried to get display via vgi or hdmi in to another monitor.
I got my laptop three or four years ago and today the screen just stopped working. First it faded white, then it came back on but faded black/white and now is not working at all. It stays black through startup and when it reaches the login page it is just a bunch of vertical lines.

I can not boot from any device [checked cd, usb key, hd, even floppy drive](BIOS seeing HD and DVD drive, in boot menu [f12] I can see usb key and floppy too]It's checking all devices at the start, but looks like loosing ability to connect with any of them after whole BIOS sequence is done. Therefore I can't flash BIOS or will I have to replace B chip?
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?

My 8 month old "Mini 9" Inspiron 910 shows "operating system not found" on boot-up and bios shows HDD size of 0MB. Fixed shows STEC PATA 16GB-(PM).
I realize re-installing XP is my next bet but I can't boot to USB. maybe the Solid State HD DEAD?
Yesterday my computer crashed 3 times for no reason so I went to check BIOS and by chance found out that my ram is actually 1066Mhz. The order sheet says I ordered 4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 dimm, and I remembered I did as well. So, did Dell send me the wrong RAM?
Or, as I've googled, is this all a Dell marketing scam such that the 1333MHz ram we ordered only performs at 1066Mhz by default and you'll have to manually overclock it to perform at 1333Mhz (which may not be safe for the system)?

the driver driver struck in infinite loop.I tried running the PSA (Pre-boot System Assessment) diagnostics and check if there is any problem with the video card by tapping F12 key.It passes without any errors and i am able to boot the system to windows screen.
