I have pavilion dv7, so far I had no problem. Now, when I login it logs in but then instead of showing me the home screen, it goes into blank black screen. It has just started to happen and I hope there is another way to make it work without rebooting the whole system.

hp support page for my laptop showed a newer bios available,so i installed it and from then my laptop shows black screen i.e it switches on and keeps blinking capslock twice and 2 sec interval and repeats.i searched the internet and found that twice capslock signifies bios failure.so i thougth of following the win+B method,but the problem here is,when i extracted my bios package sp*****.exe i have 2 *.bin files and i dont know where to paste them on my pendrive.
I recently got my x360, used it for about a month, go to turn it on, boots up fine then I log in, and it goes to a black screen with the cursor, can't do anything except ctrl alt delete, then task manager, nothing is running, it's just a blank, black screenI've restarted it multiple times with no luck, and is becoming very bothersome.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop (which came with windows 8) was working fine yesterday but whenever I try to turn it on today it shows the Dell logo briefly then goes to a black screen and remains like that. The F12 key works, but I can't change any settings as it will only let me highlight the diagnostics option. I've run diagnostics and recieved no error reports. Neither the F2 or F8 keys work, so I can't access BIOS or start in safe mode. I've tried removing the battery and unplugging the power.

I have a screen problem on my Laptop, on start-up it shows a white screen with black lines (Picture below) only happens once every 5-10 start-ups. Only happens for 5-10 Secs & sorts itself out before it boots up.
Other time it happens is when I'm using the internet, the screen just sticks, but then when I move the screen, it stops.

After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
My Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.
HP Pavilion dv7 with windows 7 home premium I just got it from my uncle who hasn't use it for long time. Long enough where He forgot his login password and there is no guest just his one account. I then returned to find that my laptop had not started up properly, and had instead come up with a black screen displaying "Checking disk for errors. This might take over an hour." So I left it sitting there turned on and plugged in for around 5 hours, and the message stayed on the screen. I have tried re-installing Windows 8 via hard drive and disk, and it was not able to be loaded. I have tried pulling out the battery, rebooting and the only thing I get is the HP sign and then it shows the loading circle and then screen goes gray. We went to the HP support web site and went through several diagnotics. When the laptop is rebooted the screen on the laptop will flash images of my desk top but once the machine boots up the screen remains blank. you can see the glow from around the edges but that is it. I have another monitor plugged in currently and the system is functioning propertly except for this. We have also done the following, hard reset,Test for memory modual problems, test the hard drive. I was also trying to update the video drivers but the system tells me the drivers are working properly.

I have had my Hp dv7 notebook for a few months now and have had no problems. But all of a sudden, I turn on the computer and see nothng but a blank, black screen. I do not know if I changed the display settings or what, but I cannot see anything. I know the computer is functioning because the fan turns on and the keyboard lights work. When I connected my laptop to an external monitor, I was able to see that my computer was on and fully functional. In fact, I am using it right now on an external monitor to type this message.

All the lights are on, but the screen is black and the only thing I hear is the fan moving. The caps lock and num lock keys have a blinking light, not really sure what that means. The power LED is on, the battery LED is on, but the hard drive LED is not on.
