I was so looking forward to buying a Dell Studio 1555 in a Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish.
But only the Black Chainlink is available. I personally think that the Black Chainlink is UGLY. I think im gonna cry...
Is anyone here familiar with the "finish" option on the Studio? I was told over the phone that if I get black or white, it will come in a glossy finish, and if I get one of the colors, it will come in a textured matte finish. I prefer the matte finish, because glossy plastic finishes are a big problem---my palms stick to the plastic.

I'd really appreciate it - I can't trust their sales staff to actually know. My gut instinct would be that the E2E RGBLED screen is glossy, while the other is matte... but I don't want to replace my glossy with another glossy!
if anyone can confirm that the matte 17" unibody has the same screen (higher colour range) as the new glossy 17" with just a different finish?

Is there any way to preserve finish of the Sony Vaio FW, particularly on the mouse buttons and where the palm-rest is, I hear the silver stippled paint finish wears away leaving bare white plastic underneath.

Has anyone heard any other issues with this laptop?
It has the 1600x900 screen which I've heard some criticism of (I heard something about it having a one-lamp "eco" screen) but I don't know if that applies to the model I bought or how good the eco screen is.
If I can get a skin that is precut for that laptop's dimensions in particular (nothing fancy, just black would be good), that would be awesome.

This was just pointed out as a side note in another thread...the Studio XPS series laptops now have an additional lid option:
Obsidian Black High Gloss finish, which is a separate option from the Obsidian Black with Leather Accent, and the Merlot Red with Leather Accent.
Is Dell actually selling this model without the leather now? If so, that's great news .....
I have a Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7. Recently, when I open an application (ex. Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately out of warranty ....

View 5 Replies View Relatedhow to make my screen get better colours as it seems pale. i tried the program and it works quite well. i changed the setting in the non expert thing from 1.8 standard to 2.2 television and its got a lot better colours. if you use the expert setting,im sure you can get even better colours but i find it hard. try this and im sure it will help you, post any expert calibrations if you can with screen shots. il try to make one now. to get to it, apple logo > system pref > display > color > calibrate....

Anyway, I recently ordered an HP HDX16t (which shipped today!). This is my first HP computer. I'm concerned with the high gloss case scratching over time. The last laptop I had was an ASUS G1S which was also glossy. Even with my constant attention, and careful placement into a neoprene sleeve every time it was not in use, still became scratched and looked very dull in the 2 years of it's service.
from most reviews you see people complaining that it's the worst trackpad they've ever used, but then there are some people who get used to how it works and find it not so bothersome... after owning my dm3 for 2 weeks, i realized that i naturally learned how to "glide" over the trackpad instead of pressing against it (like you would with a normal trackpad). when i've kept his in mind, navigating around windows becomes much easier for me.
