View 9 RepliesI have a N5110, with OEM Windows 7, recently I buy Windows 8 Pro, but I cant Upgrade or Fresh install on my laptop, the installation does not complete or finish, after several restart Windows 8 bootscreen with new logo shown, but never finish, finally after 4 hours I force shutdown the system, when I restart, the system tell, installation not finished, NO ERROR message shown and automatically rollback to Windows7.

Has anyone heard any other issues with this laptop?
It has the 1600x900 screen which I've heard some criticism of (I heard something about it having a one-lamp "eco" screen) but I don't know if that applies to the model I bought or how good the eco screen is.
If I can get a skin that is precut for that laptop's dimensions in particular (nothing fancy, just black would be good), that would be awesome.

My touchpad works with the recommended Dell Alps Touchpad driver installed. It seems clear that this driver (apoint.exe) is only required for gesture control of the Touchpad, and this is my problem.
I start my laptop (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) and use auto login. The laptop is quickly ready to use. I open firefox or other programs, but I can't scroll with the touchpad. The apoint.exe hasn't started faster than I have, and the gesture controls are not recognised when I use them. When I wait a few seconds, the driver is then active, and the gesture controls work.
This is highly annoying ! I don't have many programs running at start up (I've just done a clean Windows 7 install). My anti virus software does take some time to come up, but its not excessive.
How can I increase the priority of the touchpad driver apoint.exe which I can see in msconfig ? It needs to be up and running fast.
Is it possible to somehow set a group policy in Windows 7, so that this program is running before login is allowed ?
I've tried the recommended Dell driver, and also tried a later version which I found via searching on the Dell web site. Both drivers work fine, but they both take too long to load.
Unable to turn on wifi.I tried installing drivers of it by downloading from hp support for my model, even that didn't worked. Drivers installation failed. Even the hp utility provided in the support to automatically identify the hardware and laptop medel also failed to install. It is a new laptop.

I recently bought a 5550 wwan card ( Ericsson F5521gw 2XGNJ) for which i tried installing dell wireless 5550 driver. it was not successful and i got the message saying authentication failed and no compatible device detected!
Windows device manager identifies the card as "unknown device F5521gw" which probably means that the hardware is installed properly.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI've just received my brand new Lenovo G510 and installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit onto it.Most of the drivers from the attached CD installed without any problems (though I was quite surprised that no newer versions were available on the Support wrbpage) but I can't install audio driver.Apparently this series is equipped in either Conexant or Realtek audio chips and the provided setup application is desigend to detect the correct chip and run the appropriate driver installation program.

The problem is that setup is not working for me. All I receive is the notification "This utility can not be used on this machine". Since there are no "orphan" audio devices in the Device Manager, I can't really tell which audio chipset is installed in my machine. I don't want to install both dirvers as it may just cause confilcts.How can I say which audio chipset is installed and install the correct driver?

2. tried supplying drivers on DVD/CD and USB
3. tried to integrate drivers into Windows 7 Installation using RT7Lite
4. did bios update
5. switched from AHCO to compatible mode

In any case it finds the driver as the correct one (when I click hide drivers that are not compatible, the one remains). But always displays no driver found and doesn't continue setup.

I was curious about the durability of the HP imprint finish. I did a search and didn't run across anything.
Anyway, I recently ordered an HP HDX16t (which shipped today!). This is my first HP computer. I'm concerned with the high gloss case scratching over time. The last laptop I had was an ASUS G1S which was also glossy. Even with my constant attention, and careful placement into a neoprene sleeve every time it was not in use, still became scratched and looked very dull in the 2 years of it's service.
from most reviews you see people complaining that it's the worst trackpad they've ever used, but then there are some people who get used to how it works and find it not so bothersome... after owning my dm3 for 2 weeks, i realized that i naturally learned how to "glide" over the trackpad instead of pressing against it (like you would with a normal trackpad). when i've kept his in mind, navigating around windows becomes much easier for me.

I prefer the matte finish, because glossy plastic finishes are a big problem---my palms stick to the plastic.

When I checked my device manager I noticed that the driver version for the WiFi Link 5100 is 11.4.3.9 dated 5/28/09. On the Sony Site, they list the version for Windows 7 as 12.4.1.11 dated 10/8/2009, and when I checked on the Intel site, they are recommending driver version 13.0.0.107 dated 10/21/09.

This was just pointed out as a side note in another thread...the Studio XPS series laptops now have an additional lid option:
Obsidian Black High Gloss finish, which is a separate option from the Obsidian Black with Leather Accent, and the Merlot Red with Leather Accent.
Is Dell actually selling this model without the leather now? If so, that's great news .....
seeing that Dell released a driver supporting 6300, I went and bought one to replace my 5100. Plugged it in, and it wasn't recognized. Fair enough, I went to reinstall the driver.. which immediately finished. Setup log said error discovering intel device, or something like that.
Problem is, the device is working fine as far as windows is concerned - it is detected, I can connect using windows networks screen. But ControlPoint Connection manager does not see it.
What am I missing?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-108NR and my computer needed a recovery, but I had accidentally formatted that part of the hard drive. So I used my Vista Ultimate disk and fresh installed it on my laptop. Because of this, I have to reinstall all of my drivers on my Laptop.
So, I went to HP's site for the drivers which was here. My priority is to get my wifi/internet working as soon as possible because I can download the rest of the drivers later. So, I download both the Atheros and Broadcom drivers for my laptop. I've installed both of them, but my Laptop still doesn't detect any wifi spots despite there being plenty around me. Also, I keep getting a notification that windows must now install drivers for hardware, yet it when I click auto detect and folder detect (folder where my drivers are), it says unable to find any. Also, here is my wifi card.
