Jul 9, 2009I bought a product called the Laptop Flip to hold my Dell in the vertical position when I am not using it. Is it okay to store laptops vertically?

Dec 25, 2010I'm experiencing a really weird UltraNav behavior on my new refub T410 2537-XH4 (2537-DB5 before refub).

Step 1: I go into Control Panel -> Mouse -> Wheel tab -> Vertical Scholling -> select "One screen at a time" -> click "OK" button.
Step 2: I open a long web page and use UltraNav to scroll up or down.
Then, I go back to the Mouse setting in Step 1 and now the setting in Wheel tab is reset back to scroll one line at a time. I repeated this many times and as soon as I use UltraNav, it resets it back.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, ThinkAdvantage System Update v4 and with all the latest drivers.

Jan 14, 2009Out of the blue today, I received a package from Dell with the accessory kit for my M1530.
I guess I had finally complained enough about not getting it, even though people that ordered it about the same time I did, got theirs.
My only question, is where on the unit can I store the remote. I previously had an HP system where it had an expansion slot on the side that fit the remote perfectly, but I can't remove the little panel on the side of the M1530. Is that where it is supposed to go? Is there a button to push to get that little placeholder out?

it says on the order form its loaded with vista. I have a retail copy of windows 7 which i bought at luanch and is installed onto my other laptop. i m looking to sell this laptop (i have a retail version of vista i can put on it)

Feb 13, 2009I'm still trying to spend a $100 store certificate at Dell -- given because of a tech service snafu. Just got off the phone with a store rep after the following conversation:
Me: "I'm calling about Dell Part# 341-7542, which is a 500Gb drive listed as compatible with the Studio XPS 13 laptop. It looks like the form factor and interface would work with my XPS M1210. Can you confirm that?"
Rep (after a few minutes on hold): "Well, I just talked to a tech guy here and he said that technically the drive is compatible, but that the M1210 can only handle drives up to 200Gb. It's a speed issue."

Feb 4, 2009My HP recovery discs got corrupted. I read around about making new set by moving/renaming HPCD.sys and it didn't work. I contacted HP to get new set of discs and they want to me charge equivalent to USD50. I am in no mood to pay them this much sum.
A friend of mine has a store bought XP CD and I have trial version of XP. I was wondering if I install using any of these CDs and use XP key that my HP machine came with, will it fly? Has anyone tried it? Whats the result?
Plus, I must mention that my HP came with Swedish OS and the discs I have are English OS.

Apr 16, 2009this is a popup i'm getting everytime i boot up now. it started happening after i went through msconfig to disable some things at startup. it doesn't seem to be comromising anything in use but i am curious what it is and how to make it stop.
and on an unrelated note, i'm wondering if i can't get more room out of my HD. my model is advertised at 320, but only shows 286 available. i know it's always less than whats advertised but that seems like more than usual. i also have used up about 250 in files and programes yet only have 13.6gb left. i've turned off restore point, could there be anything else bogging down my HD that i can't see? also is there a way to clear out the recovery drive and add on the free space to my c drive?

Sep 17, 2008my new dell E6400 just got a small scratch on the lid. It really bothers me because I can see it in most lighting even though it's not a big scratch. Part of the reason why I decided to buy a business line laptop is that it's suppose to be more durable. I have been careful with my laptop and it still got scratched. Does anybody know anything I can do to remove the scratch? Also, what is the most protective laptop sleeve for a 14.1 laptop with a 9 cell battery?

But in this case i dont know how to install xp. and my next question is that can i play cd in DVD-Dual double layer.

Actually, everything passed except the DVD drive. I'm going to retest it tonight to see if it fails again. I already ran the battery down to 5%, then charged it back up. Is there anything else I need or should do? This is my first new laptop in 5 years, I want this one to last.

May 12, 2010I recently ordered a Dell Studio 1558, thinking I got a good deal after taking about 3 days and talking to several reps, got the order done and all, it is now In-Production.
I went ahead and ordered the Latitude E6510, but since the Studio 15 is in production, I can't cancel, so I'll be getting both laptops, and I can return before 30 days off course.

May 18, 2010just tonight my laptop started to act up.. i go to turn it on and i get these error messages.. then it tried to go to this repair part for 5-10 minutes and says its re starting my laptop then it does the same thing over and over.. i took two photos to show you also...

Apr 30, 2010I'm trying to choose a laptop at the moment and I'm finding it hard to do. I primarily want it for gaming and want it to play all the latest and greatest games.
Originally, I wanted an Alienware but I can't justify the price to be honest. Maybe the M11X but I'm not too sure if thats very good for gaming.
These are the laptops I'm looking at:
DELL Studio 17
DELL Studio XPS 16
Alienware M11X
The studio 17 has a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 560v
The XPS 16 has a 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670 graphics card
&
The Alienware M11X has a 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M
Which is the best graphics card out of these? I know theres more to it than just a graphics card but I thought that would be a good place to start. Also, the i7 processor would be best I think so does that cancel out the M11X? Which laptop would you get for gaming? Personally, I'd like the 17 inch screen size as I'm out of college and don't really need the portability anymore - I use my iPhone for most of my web browsing nowadays. Basically, I'm looking for a really powerful gaming laptop for around €1,200.

My family and I have only ever bought Dells, and we've always been happy with them. Because I'm mostly going to be using the laptop at home, with minimal travel, I'm thinking of an 18.4" laptop. HP has one that looks very reasonably priced, the Sony one is more expensive, but I'm still hoping Dell comes out with one soon. Is there any word that this will be happening? Dec 19, 2008I need to select a new laptop for work. My company allows Dell only.
Currently, I have a Dell Latitude D610. (yes time to upgrade).
I travel often. Therefore, weight is a factor. I'm not sure if I should go with the 14" or 15" screen. My current 14" seems OK. I need a laptop where I can use a port replicator. I believe that this limits my choices. Some of the models I like from a design standpoint don't seem to offer this.

I couldn't really figure out what the difference is between the E5x and E6x.
