Dec 16, 2008Looking at the Studio 15. I've had 15" Dells in the past and always got 1680x1050. Thought it was a great resolution. Now they have 1920x1200 or 1440 x whatever but LED.

Jun 18, 2009I've decided to purchase an HP 6930p. I will mainly be using it for business - Word, Outlook, the Internet, Excel etc. I won't be playing many games on it (if any) or be doing any video editing. I have a 24" display, which I can use for any graphics work (Photoshop etc). I'll be using the laptop about 50% of the time away from the office - at libraries, coffee shops, or other offices/meeting rooms.
I'm trying to decide which resolution to get - the WXGA or WXGA+. I know a lot of people on these forums recommend the higher res screens; however, I imagine a lot may use their systems for games, video editing, CAD, web work etc. I'll be doing intensive office work. For a 14" business machine, what is the best resolution?
Also, if anyone happens to be a 6930p user, is there any difference in brightness between the two screens? That could be a factor.

Dec 14, 2008i'm looking to upgrade the screen of my E1705/9400 from WXGA (1440x900) to WUXGA (1920x1200).
My current screen model is a LG Phillips (LPL0000).
I've found an inspiron 9400 compatible: Samsung WUXGA (LTN170WU-L02)
But i'm not sure if i can upgrade screen from differents manufacturer easy like that.
I've already look over the net but didn't found same situation.
If someone knows something about that kind of upgrade...

Oct 16, 2009I'm looking for a new screen - I saw an out fit on ebay that lists the dell inspiron 1300, 1525 and 1505 screen as one and the same.
So I start to hunt and I land here, which links to here which linked me to here:

page lists them all with identical specs and there's like 30!: so my question is, aside form those that are matte vs the glossy are they all the exact same physical dimensions and definitely interchangeable?

Aug 18, 2009Not sure whether to get WXGA or WXGA+ display. If I get a WXGA+ display, will I be able to set the graphics resolution to 1280x800 and if yes, will the display work as good as i have WXGA display.
Also, shall I go with discrete or integrated graphics with this laptop? Does having discrete graphic card causes more heat as compared to the integrated one. I Wont be playing much games on this.

Not sure whether to get WXGA or WXGA+ display. If I get a WXGA+ display, will I be able to set the graphics resolution to 1280x800 and if yes, will the display work as good as i have WXGA display.

Sep 25, 2009I've been waiting 4 weeks or my system exchange through 1 cancellation and and 20+ calls to get it straightened out, I finally found out mine is shipping today.
They actually gave me a pretty decked out 1737, but it only has a WXGA+... I had spoke with the tech that took my requirements and told him my only concerns were discrete video and wuxga screen.
He told me that most likely i would get a 1737 but they only had WXGA+ and I told him that not acceptable and he asked what about studio xps 16's 1080p display which I agreed to

Apr 23, 2009Just over a week ago there there was an option for WXGA+ display (1440x900) WLED. I was on the verge of buying but I held out for a coupon which I got next day. Problem was the next day the WXGA+ was no longer an option.
I am left with the choice of base WXGA WLED (1280 x 800), the CCFL version of that or WUXGA+ CCFL (1920x1200) @ £100 more. That is too high for me (resolution & maybe price). I really wanted the WXGA+ WLED and am pissed off it has gone
Anyone with knowledge of how dell works have any ideas why they would not be offering it any more or any ideas if it might come back?

Mar 20, 2009On the Dell Outlet all E6400 models are listed as LED including the WXGA (1280X800) Can anyone confirm they have a WXGA (1280X800) that is actually LED not CCFL? CCFL is not even listed as an option when configuring a new E6400.

Oct 7, 2008after reading some post about the better display for the WXGA+ on the M4400, I could hardly belief that someone that only saw the Samsung screen claims the LG screen is the worse one. In the past the LG screen were the better ones. Even in the other notebooks of the E-Series the LGs are the better screens, so I went and searched someone with the a M4400 but a different screen manufacturer.

Oct 31, 2009I recently took the plunge and purchased a new Studio XPS 16. I searched online to find images comparing the size difference between the two without any luck. Now that I have both systems in my posession, I took a few quick shots for any interested in seeing the physical difference. You'll have to forgive the fingerprints as I didn't bother to wipe either down.
With the configurations I have, the weights are 5.8lbs for the M1530 and 6.6lbs for the XPS 16.

Dec 19, 2008I ordered my XPS M1530 at the beginning of this month, and I decided to add a blu-ray drive to it, so they had to cancel and place the order again.
I received my XPS m1530 this Monday 12/15/2008.
M1530, t9300, 4gb 667mhz, 8600mt 256mb, 320gb, Blu-ray Burner, 9cell, midnight blue...
One of the main reasons I chose to go with the dell was:
A. I had the option of having a very high resolution screen 1900 x 1200 (wuxga)
B. I got a good deal on a 4 year accidental damage warranty w/ the package.

I was so excited about getting a 1900 x 1200 screen; it would allow me to be as productive as on my desktop since I work with many windows open. I also play a little with video editing.
As soon as I received it I tested out the notebook for several hours.
The first thing I noticed was that white and light colors are shimmery / grainy. I have never seen this on any other screen that I work on.
After several hours I found myself feeling a little nauseous. In addition, my eyes felt strained.
I have never experience this in my life as I sit in front of computers 8-10 hours a day for the past 20 years (Work).
I raised the DPI of the fonts in vista to make them a normal size, so I don't feel that the size of the letters caused this feeling.
The next day, I decided to try again. This time I set the screen to 1440 x 900. I still experienced the same effect. I think the shimmery / graininess of the screen is causing this, as it causes the text to blend in with the background to a degree.
I tried using the notebook throughout the week. I tried getting used to it, and I did somewhat, but still felt uncomfortable working on it for an extended period of time (after only 2 hours).
I then called my sales rep. to see if he had heard of this problem. His only advice was that I should call customer support.
I called customer support, and got someone from the Philippines on the phone very quickly. The person was very nice, friendly, and wanted to help me. I was impressed. (They probably don’t want me to return it within 21 days).
He told me this is the nature of the wuxga screens. He was willing to send me another notebook to compare it with either a 1440x900 display or another wuxga.
I then did a bit of searching and found other people expressing dissatisfaction about the graininess (which is what I think is causing my fatigue) on the wuxga screens as well as other Samsung screens.
My question to everyone is:
Has anyone else experience this?
Do you think switching to the 1440 x 900 LED screen will resolve this issue?
Does the WUXGA 1900 x 1200 screen come in any other brands besides Samsung, eg. LG ?
I am really dreading on downgrading to 1440x900 as I love the real estate that the wuxga screen provides, but something is up with its quality.
I am trying to convince myself that I will get used to it but I really do not think this is the case..

Mar 2, 2009The CCFL WUXGA screen belongs to a precision M90 and is almost 3 years old. Keep that in mind for this review.
The RGBLED is way brighter than the CCFL; at nightime, I would only use the minimum brightness setting.........................

Aug 28, 2009Dell only offer the 1080p (WUXGA+) screen(s) in the country I am in. I am planning to get the 15.6'' one. the high
I think I will have to find a place where I can have a look on a notebook with that screen, and see if I can handle it. Right now I am very sceptical. I just can't believe that Dell do not offer the 720p screen when I am finally ready to take the plunge.
Is there anyone here that can actually use WUXGA+ on 15.6-16'' without having to resort to changing DPI, font size or zooming?

Oct 4, 2007I met a guy who had a e1705 with the 1440 by 900 LCD with Xbrite, and I must say that I felt it was a great looking LCD. As a gamer I can't help but feel that my games would perform better along with my 7950 GTX with a smaller native resolution. And it wouldn't bother me because it still has the Gloss and Xbrite like features.
I was wondering if someone out there knew what type of gains and losses I'm looking at overall. I'm seriously considering changing out my LCD on my M1710.
But.... My blu Ray's wont' work will they? Well they won't play at 1080 anymore right?

Sep 24, 2008The hardware id is SEC5443....so it's the Samsung panel. Can anyone tell me the hardware id of the LG 2CCFL WUXGA 15,4" so i can ask Dell to replace it for that?
It's actually weird that of the two possibilities for the the panels on each type

Jan 17, 2009I'm thinking about buying a M4400 with WUXGA 2CCFL screen.
I'm a web developer, so I need "space" on the screen for running programs as Eclipse, etc... However I'm a bit worried for if the fonts (reading text, typing code...) are very small.
I read that the Vista DPI scaling engine is really good and can solve this issue.
Could anyone attach some screen captures with 96 dpi (default) and 120 dpi, using Vista DPI scaling?
