Trying to disable powermizer completely, but its just not working at all, I've tried it using the registry editing thread and using NV GPU Pro, neither have worked, regardless of what method I use, whenever I pull the plug out

it seems that it is always in performance mode, running in full speeds
i tried reg edit but i dont know what to edit
Strange downclocking problem here.
Powermizer is active because the clocks of my 8800m gtx's go down to 200/100 instead of the 500/800 standard.
When in use, GPUZ says that my cards are running at 381/301. Why is this? Why am I not allowed to use the cards how they were made to be used?
Does anyone know how to disable the infrared sensor on an XPS 1645?
I ask as I often use the laptop while also watching a media pc and the remote control operates both the laptop as well as the media pc and it's damned annoying.
All of the items referring to the infrared receiver in the device manager can't be disabled so other than sticking a piece of tape over the sensor does anyone have any ideas?

When I fold the screen back and use the laptop in "tablet mode", the keyboard automatically get disabled but the touchpad does not. I have tried looking in the mouse and touchpad settings to no avail and it is very frustrating!

My Question: Can I simply delete the MS Office 2013 from my list of software already installed? I can't afford to buy it right now and have installed MS Office 2007.
My problem is that when I got to open a document that I've downloaded, I get the box asking me to buy, or try or enter my code for MS 2013. I don't know if I can just change how my system opens up attachments or not, but if I can just delete this program / I would rather do that since it is taking up space I could use for something else.
I have an IdeaPad Y580, and I want to disable the Nvidia chip in the BIOS (I run Linux on it and don't use the chip.) I have the BIOS updated to the latest version from Lenovo's website. I couldn't seem to find anything in the BIOS settings that would allow me to just use the Intel HD 4000 graphics. There was an option to change from "Switchable" graphics to "UMA" graphics, but from my understanding the UMA option means using the CPU to process graphics instead of even the Intel integrated.
Is there any way to turn off the Nvidia chip, or am I stuck with it being on?
So for a while now I've been using my laptop while it's plugged into my tv. But the parts of the screen are cut off (the top, left, right and bottom, which doesn't make sense since there is no reason to cut off all sides) I've seen guides telling you how to disable the overscan in the video card settings or in regedit but the thing is, I HAVE NO VIDEO CARD. The guides online assume you have one, but I don't my laptop is as plain as it gets. How can I disable the overscan (if possible)?
I have searched through my tv's settings but have found nohting even remotely related to overscan settings.I have a hp pavilion 15-n221sa running windows 8.1 and I'm trying to get the display to work on a samsung le46b650 tv.
On my T410 , at the front RHS of the keyboard, there's the group of Left, Up, Right and Down keys.
Each side of the Up key are two keys wih sort of browser page icons on them which I find extremely annoying because it's so easy to touch them by mistake while typing and have the browser (FF 30.0) abandon the current page and go somehere else.
After googling around this problem, I've downloaded and installed the TpKMapAp utility. However, on the KeySensitivity tab, the checkbox "Enable Browser Keys", which I assume refers to these two keys (seems to be confirmed by the results of the test on that tab), is not checked.
So, why do these two buttons still work and what else can I do to prevent them?
Fwiw, I made a registry change google found me to disable the Windows key two left from the space bar, which I found as annoying as these two browser keys. Is there a similar one for them?
And finally, a question for the TP designers: Why don't you provide a simple way to turn keys like these ones off, rather than relying on undocumented registry hacks and utilities that don't come supplied with the machine and, in the case of the browser keys, don't work anyway.
I am trying to disable UEFI Secure Boot on my Thinkpad Yoga S1 but it keeps getting re-enabled after a reboot. If I set secure boot to disabled I can boot into the non secure OSes installed on the machine imediately afterwards but if the machine is restarted the Secure Boot seting in the BIOS is re-enabled. It's important for me to have secure boot disabled as I use OSes without secure boot.
I try to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS on the following screen :

But if I re-enter the BIOS either after booting into an OS or simply re-entering the BIOS, Secure Boot is back on:

I have also tried to disable "OS Optimzed Defaults" but it also returns to enabled after a restart.

Some of the other BIOS settings save correctly so I can't figure out why the secure boot settings don't. The BIOS version I have is the latest (1.18).
It's inconvenient to manually disable secure boot each time I want to use the laptop. The two operating systems (Ubuntu and Android x86) do work reasonably well once booted.

Bue couple of days I happened to "Disable" two network which used to connect automatically the moment i used to turn my laptop ON.But after that, I never saw them in the available connection. Although i can see those network available on my phone, but on laptop i unable to detect them. I tried configuring them by using "wireless network connection properties" and i could even chnage their preference too. I tried disabling/enabling wireless network, but its not working at all.But at the same time I can see coupls of other wireless network which are in range, but i can not connect to any of those as they dont belong to my hotel.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got my T440s a couple of weeks ago. I stupidly ordered it with only 4GB of RAM, thinking that I couple upgrade it myself if neccessary (and it would be much cheaper that way).
Well it seems 4GB definately isn't enough for my needs, so I ordered another 4GB stick. I installed it, plugged the machine in and powered it up. And was met with the tone for a memory error. Probably the module isn't seated correctly, but I suppose it could be faulty.
Anyway, you'll notice I said that I plugged it in before powering up. That means that the internal battery has been reactivated. I can confirm this because it will start (and give me the error) without being plugged in and without the external battery connected. So my problem is, how do I disable the internal battery again to remove or reseat the problem DIMM, since I can't get to the UEFI/BIOS configuration to disable it.
I have a VGA plug in my Dell Inspiron 1545 and when I plug in the cord it doesnt work. I have another laptop and I used the same cord and it works. So I guess my VGA doesnt work, what do I have to get to replace the VGA in my laptop?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Elitebook 6930p and its a fantastic laptop other than the dreaded "CPU whine" as some call it. Most uneducated people believe it is the CPU that makes this noise but in reality this has NOTHING to do with the CPU. Its the power components like capacitors and coils that make the Piezoelectric Effect which causes the noise.
I could not bear the whine noise after a few days so I took matters into my own hands. Sure I read about stopping the C1-C4 states in Intels speedstep but thats not a proper solution IMO since battery life will suffer. So how can we mask or cover up this annoying noise? How can we seal it inside the laptop so it does not reach our ears? I have the solution!

Seal it up all the power components with silicon sealer. Silicon sealer is perfect as it does not conduct electricity. These components do NOT generate any heat either.

No more annoying whine noise! It really works!
I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit. When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work. When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports. When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).
I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers. How do I get these working?
I just installed XP throught bootcamp on my macbook (black book, the one that was available right before the aluminum ones).
I have two problems.
1. My Apple wireless keyboard does not work.
2. My wireless keyboard does not work when I plug it into my macbook.
