On the new MBP's, if you are running dual boot XP, what video core is the MBP using? The 9400 or 9600? Is there a way to swap while in XP?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I customize a Dell 15/17 or XPS 16, there are only options for Dell wifi cards. I believe these are Broadcom cards. I dual boot Linux distros and Broadcom cards are generally a headache for Linux users. Reason why I'm asking is because I might want a EliteBook 8730w that comes refurb with no wireless. I was thinking the card from my nx9420 should do the trick.

the first one is the graphics card.. i have 4 options...
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD With Express Card
Mobile Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD with PC-Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With Express Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With PC-Card
i would assume that the following cards have different perfomances, but what is the difference between a Express card and a PC card... and what is the better one to have?
And what card would be better for some gaming.. "i am a command and conquer addict"...

Under the hood of the 17.1-inch Firefly we found a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core CPU, 4GB of RAM, a pair of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs running in CrossFire mode, and a 7,200 rpm 250GB hard drive. The Firefly spec sheet said the machine is capable of overclocking, but we didn’t touch the BIOS.
And a MultiTouch trackpad, Backlit keyboard (with m15x-esque customizable colours), Creative X-Fi audio and a Dual Hinge like the HDX 20.

I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

I would have liked the GeForce Go 7900 GS, but it seems there are troubles with that; what would you recommend, and where would I go to find it? I was hoping for a bit of direction! Much obliged, fellas.

So at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.
What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.
A new driver (version 5.10.79.14) for Dell Wireless 1397 and 1510 Half MiniCard has been released.

Latitude E5500 ........
I see there are options for Wireless Card choice, like Dell Wireless™ 1510 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card, Intel® WiFi Link 5100 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card, Intel® WiFi Link 5300 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card. So what's the main difference?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAnybody else wondering why we haven't seen anything coming out with the 8800m Nvidia cards?
Alienware had their big product release 11/19/07 for their new laptops with the 8800m cards then they pulled the link from their website.
Dell, who usually has the newest stuff doesn't mention them.
The boutique vendors like Voodoo pc and Falcon-nw that pride themselves on offering the latest hardware don't offer them. No press reviews in the print.
I've seen one on line mini review of bench marks from a clevo type laptop with an 8800m video card and that is it.
I wonder if nvidia is having a harder time manufacturing the 8800 62 nM cards than they have admitted. It would explain why the standard 8800 video cards are hard to get as well
I have just ordered a new SXPS13 and was wondering about upgrading the wireless card. I noticed that the Intel 5300 was not compatible with the NVIDIA chipset. What about the 5100 or the 4965? Are there are any other wireless cards I can put in that would give me comparable, or at least improved, performance?

I basically wanted to ask if there will be any new graphic cards coming up for xps 16? I really like everything else but the graphics card.
View 6 Replies View RelatedToday I was going through the online documentation of my Dell XPS 1530 laptop and found that there are various slots and mini cards in it ,some of which are lying unused .
Some good techie person please kindly answer my following queries :
1) SIM Card slot :What is this slot and how to use it ?Is this SIM slot included in all XPS 1530 laptops when delivered ?
2)Wireless Mini Cards :What is difference between WLAN,UWB and WWAN ?Which of these technology is present in India ?
If none, then which of these technologies is likely to hit Indian market first ?Which of the above technologies is the best ?
3) FCM :What is Flash Card Module ?
I never knew about the nvidia and the stupid faulty 8600 cards until i accidently saw it today. It makes sense why my laptop freezes when it comes out from sleep mode.
Now the question is what are Dell UK doing? I know my laptop is failing now. Can you get your money back because i don't want mine replaced by another faulty 8600 card.
I have a inspiron 1520 with 8600m gt. Its 1 year and 2 or 3 weeks old now. Fortunately i got 3 year warranty.
I've got an Inspiron 9400 with the pathetic ATI x1400 living inside of it. I got a price from dell to upgrade to the GeForce 7900 for about 400$ Aussie dollars. My dilemma is that with DX10 coming along quite quickly etc...will i be pissing my money up against the wall by buying this card or should wait to get DX10 compatible card. Also the obvious..... what DX10 cards fit the Inspirion 9400's ?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an issue, as some might have read with my wireless NIC that might be faulty. I had a old wireless card from my i9300 somewhere,
but I can't seem to locate it. What is the best wireless card I can buy for this laptop? I know back in the day it was the Atheros chipset that was the good one for the i9300. Is it still the same with the e1705s? If so, what was the exact chip?
My sound does NOT work with the internal built in speakers. It only works if I plug in head phones and/or use external speakers.
I'm thinking a connection may have come loose some where, so the laptop always thinks that some sort of headset/speaker is plugged into the laptop. With that being said .....
I think my graphics card is pooping out. Looking for another economic alternative. Way back when I bought this 7800 GTX GO for $250 direct from Dell.....now they want $500+ for it.
I know the x300 (64 and 128 MB), 6800 vanilla, 6800 Ultra, and 7800 GTX will all work with this system...because I've owned them all:-)
ANyone know if these ATI x1400's will work?
I really need a card cheap as possible......going to have to quit gaming till I get a new PC.

Are the FX series cards a direct plug and play card in the E1705/9400 laptop or is a BIOS mod required ?
Seems these cards are selling alot cheaper than the 7900 series cards on Ebay.
I was wondering how far out an installed SD/SDHC card sticks out of the slot on the Mini 9? It seems a common thing for people to buy a big, fast card and leave it in there for permanent additional storage. I've got one on order thanks to all the fun with the Dell Outlet this week (missed the 15% off deal but managed to score a 512/16GB with no OS (have spare XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu I'm going to try) for only $329).
I ordered a 2GB stick of G.Skill 4-4-4-12 from Newegg but haven't yet picked up an SD card - I had one in my fiancée's e1505 but in her taking it places it apparently got knocked out, but since that was just for ReadyBoost, no big deal. However if I have an 8GB+ SDHC card in my Mini 9 I don't want it disappearing for obvious reasons.
Is there going to be any DirectX 10 capable cards ever available for the e1705 ?
