Dell :: FX1500 / FX2500 Cards In A E1705
Aug 31, 2007Are the FX series cards a direct plug and play card in the E1705/9400 laptop or is a BIOS mod required ?
Seems these cards are selling alot cheaper than the 7900 series cards on Ebay.

I went to upgrade my M90 (currently FX1500) to a FX2500 card, but I think the new card is DOA. What happened was when I installed it and rebooted it showed what looked like blue vertical stitching across the “Windows XP loading” screen, and then it was blank at the login screen. Also I noticed it was hot when I took it out, when it was only in for 2-3 min.
I have a 7 day return on this E-bay purchase but don’t want to waste time in returning it if it’s just a driver issue.
<O></O>
Is it dead?
So here we go :
1) I'm ordering in a FX2500 to replace my 7800 go. I'm currently using Extreme-G Mobileforce driver 92.91 (I've tried some of the newer versions but prefer this one). Will this driver be compatible with the FX2500?
2) What are the best drivers for the FX2500 if not Mobileforce?
3) Overclocking... I've read the posts about flashing the 7900GTX bios to enable overclocking, does this mean i cannot overclock using the normal software way. In the Mobileforce drivers for the 7800, the option is in the Advanced Settings options in Windows. Does the FX2500/7950GTX not have this option and is BIOS flashing the only way to overclock the card?
4) If the BIOS flash is to enable voltage adjustments as well as clock adjustments, is this something I need to do or will the card do well with just altered clock speeds?
I have an issue, as some might have read with my wireless NIC that might be faulty. I had a old wireless card from my i9300 somewhere,
but I can't seem to locate it. What is the best wireless card I can buy for this laptop? I know back in the day it was the Atheros chipset that was the good one for the i9300. Is it still the same with the e1705s? If so, what was the exact chip?
My sound does NOT work with the internal built in speakers. It only works if I plug in head phones and/or use external speakers.
I'm thinking a connection may have come loose some where, so the laptop always thinks that some sort of headset/speaker is plugged into the laptop. With that being said .....
Is there going to be any DirectX 10 capable cards ever available for the e1705 ?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have this Dell e1705 Core 2 Dou, 2 GB Ram and an ATI video card. I've been buying Nvidia's GO 7900 GS off ebay. some of them arrive here dead. the rest arrive, they work for 1 hour and then become like the rest, lines on the screen, color blinking, in windows, the Bios, and even in safe mode, I put my ATI back and everything works fine, only two of the 6 I got worked for like 1 hour, 1 just stopped working completely, and the other one that I bought a week ago worked for 1 hour then red flickers and pixels started appearing on the screen then it got messed up completely like the pictures show.
Is it possibble that its the mainboard, or any short, and why just Nvidias and not the ATI. I think I just have bad luck with the cards I bought.
I am in the process of building a new del on the website, is has really been sometime since I did this and there seems to be alot of new technology that i am not familier with...
the first one is the graphics card.. i have 4 options...
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD With Express Card
Mobile Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD with PC-Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With Express Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With PC-Card
i would assume that the following cards have different perfomances, but what is the difference between a Express card and a PC card... and what is the better one to have?
And what card would be better for some gaming.. "i am a command and conquer addict"...
Just got a FX2500 installed in my 1705 and my 3dmark 05 score went from 59xx to 8546 and that's still running stock speeds, cant wait to see what it gets once I push up the clock rate some.
BTW anyone who's on the fence about doing this, its was a very easy install took all of about 20 minutes to do and is a very solid upgrade for the money. Got mine off ebay for $140!
Well I bought a FX-2500, actually 2, the first had to go back - Dud.
I understand that the FX-2500 and 7900GTX are the same cards, with a different BIOS.
So is there any benfits to flashing the FX-2500 with the 7900GTX BIOS, I am a Gamer, so again my Understanding is the 7900GTX is more orientated for Gaming.
I have just installed a fx2500 in my M90 and was wondering if I flash it with the Fx3500 bios would it become a fx3500? It seems from the specs that the only difference is the core/memory speed.

Can anyone plz help me?
I've been trying to find these cards for a while.. I've been searching for "dell FX3500", "FX3500", "FX3500M", same for the others, etc.
I can't find these cards for my 9400.. There's a lot of 7900Gs, but that's the card I already have!
Are there specific codes for those parts? I know the 7900GS is DG008, but I don't know of any for the cards I want.
I can play Obilivion, Bioshock, UT3, and even crysis (1200x800 medium) at good frame rates with good quality visuals turned on. I had previously just accepted that I was stuck with games like doom3 and quake4 only.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEven with Crysis winning the latest "Hog of the Year" award, it does have a decent GPU benchmark tool.
Please post any benches you've accomplished using the Crysis GPU Benchmark. I will post additional FX2500 OC numbers as time permits.
I also have a FX3500 inbound, so I'll update my post with that data as well once installed.

I've got an Inspiron 9300 / E1705 that came with an ATI X300 from a couple years ago, and I'm just thinking to upgrade it now. I would have liked the GeForce Go 7900 GS, but it seems there are troubles with that; what would you recommend, and where would I go to find it? I was hoping for a bit of direction! Much obliged, fellas.
View 15 Replies View RelatedSo at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.
What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.
anyone tried running their xps1530 with multiple wi-fi cards?

View 10 Replies View RelatedAnybody else wondering why we haven't seen anything coming out with the 8800m Nvidia cards?
Alienware had their big product release 11/19/07 for their new laptops with the 8800m cards then they pulled the link from their website.
Dell, who usually has the newest stuff doesn't mention them.
The boutique vendors like Voodoo pc and Falcon-nw that pride themselves on offering the latest hardware don't offer them. No press reviews in the print.
I've seen one on line mini review of bench marks from a clevo type laptop with an 8800m video card and that is it.
I wonder if nvidia is having a harder time manufacturing the 8800 62 nM cards than they have admitted. It would explain why the standard 8800 video cards are hard to get as well
I have just ordered a new SXPS13 and was wondering about upgrading the wireless card. I noticed that the Intel 5300 was not compatible with the NVIDIA chipset. What about the 5100 or the 4965? Are there are any other wireless cards I can put in that would give me comparable, or at least improved, performance?

I basically wanted to ask if there will be any new graphic cards coming up for xps 16? I really like everything else but the graphics card.

Some good techie person please kindly answer my following queries :
1) SIM Card slot :What is this slot and how to use it ?Is this SIM slot included in all XPS 1530 laptops when delivered ?
2)Wireless Mini Cards :What is difference between WLAN,UWB and WWAN ?Which of these technology is present in India ?
If none, then which of these technologies is likely to hit Indian market first ?Which of the above technologies is the best ?
3) FCM :What is Flash Card Module ?
I never knew about the nvidia and the stupid faulty 8600 cards until i accidently saw it today. It makes sense why my laptop freezes when it comes out from sleep mode.
Now the question is what are Dell UK doing? I know my laptop is failing now. Can you get your money back because i don't want mine replaced by another faulty 8600 card.
I have a inspiron 1520 with 8600m gt. Its 1 year and 2 or 3 weeks old now. Fortunately i got 3 year warranty.
I've got an Inspiron 9400 with the pathetic ATI x1400 living inside of it. I got a price from dell to upgrade to the GeForce 7900 for about 400$ Aussie dollars. My dilemma is that with DX10 coming along quite quickly etc...will i be pissing my money up against the wall by buying this card or should wait to get DX10 compatible card. Also the obvious..... what DX10 cards fit the Inspirion 9400's ?

I think my graphics card is pooping out. Looking for another economic alternative. Way back when I bought this 7800 GTX GO for $250 direct from Dell.....now they want $500+ for it.
I know the x300 (64 and 128 MB), 6800 vanilla, 6800 Ultra, and 7800 GTX will all work with this system...because I've owned them all:-)
ANyone know if these ATI x1400's will work?
I really need a card cheap as possible......going to have to quit gaming till I get a new PC.

I was wondering how far out an installed SD/SDHC card sticks out of the slot on the Mini 9? It seems a common thing for people to buy a big, fast card and leave it in there for permanent additional storage. I've got one on order thanks to all the fun with the Dell Outlet this week (missed the 15% off deal but managed to score a 512/16GB with no OS (have spare XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu I'm going to try) for only $329).
I ordered a 2GB stick of G.Skill 4-4-4-12 from Newegg but haven't yet picked up an SD card - I had one in my fiancée's e1505 but in her taking it places it apparently got knocked out, but since that was just for ReadyBoost, no big deal. However if I have an 8GB+ SDHC card in my Mini 9 I don't want it disappearing for obvious reasons.
