Dell :: FX2500 Can Play Obilivion, Bioshock, UT3, And Even Crysis (1200x800 Medium) ..

Jan 23, 2008

I can play Obilivion, Bioshock, UT3, and even crysis (1200x800 medium) at good frame rates with good quality visuals turned on. I had previously just accepted that I was stuck with games like doom3 and quake4 only.

Even with Crysis winning the latest "Hog of the Year" award, it does have a decent GPU benchmark tool.

Please post any benches you've accomplished using the Crysis GPU Benchmark. I will post additional FX2500 OC numbers as time permits.

I also have a FX3500 inbound, so I'll update my post with that data as well once installed.

Dell :: Trying To Play Bioshock On My Newly Acquired XPS M1730

Feb 4, 2009

I'm trying to play Bioshock on my newly acquired XPS M1730, but it just doesn't seem to want to play right. Even when I turn the graphics options way down it is still running very badly, and I would imagine on this machine it should run pretty good, right?

Here are my current system specs:

M1730

Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000
Vista Ultimate
4GB DDR2
640GB HD (320 x2)
Dual GeForce 8700MGT's (Running in SLI)

NVidia Driver: 179.28

Apple :: Backup Medium For My Server

Mar 10, 2010

We have a server and 10 iMac workstations.

My concern is twofold
1. because these tapes are proprietary, if the drive goes down, the tape can't be read by any other machine. I had this happen a couple of years ago when the tape drive broke and because it was discontinued, I have all 5 daily tapes that could no longer be read and cost almost $100 each. Luckily I have never had to restore from a tape, but if I did, I would have been out of luck.

2. The cost. These drives are expensive. Would it not make more sense to have a couple of 16gig USB flash drives to rotate through. They are more portable and I can do a restore on any networked machine.

Or we can simply do a backup to a networked drive. I like the flash drive better than the last option because it can be moved to a safe part of the office to protect against a water pipe burst or something like that. the total data requiring backup is just under 1 gig

Dell :: BioShock On Your

Aug 21, 2007

How did it run on your system? Look at my sig, I struggled for 30FPS on 1027x768

Using Nvidia Driver 84.63

This was the DEMO, not the real game. I hope the game is better optimized than the demo, but for some reason I feel it'll be about the same.

Vote now on the demo, leave all comments, concerns, rants, anxious glee, etc etc.....want to hear it

Edit/Update- Got Bioshock running at a smooth 60+FPS. Defrag ur HD and defrag files in Steam, (if u used it 2 get demo).

update-9/3/07- now running all high settings, everything turned on, 1024x768. 20-40FPS- little to no choppiness

BTW anyone who's on the fence about doing this, its was a very easy install took all of about 20 minutes to do and is a very solid upgrade for the money. Got mine off ebay for $140!

I understand that the FX-2500 and 7900GTX are the same cards, with a different BIOS.

So is there any benfits to flashing the FX-2500 with the 7900GTX BIOS, I am a Gamer, so again my Understanding is the 7900GTX is more orientated for Gaming.

Dell :: Upgrading FX1500 To A FX2500

Aug 27, 2007

I went to upgrade my M90 (currently FX1500) to a FX2500 card, but I think the new card is DOA. What happened was when I installed it and rebooted it showed what looked like blue vertical stitching across the “Windows XP loading” screen, and then it was blank at the login screen. Also I noticed it was hot when I took it out, when it was only in for 2-3 min.

I have a 7 day return on this E-bay purchase but don’t want to waste time in returning it if it’s just a driver issue.
<O></O>

Is it dead?

Dell :: FX2500 In An Inspiron 9400/E1705.. Drivers And O/C

Jan 8, 2008

So here we go :

1) I'm ordering in a FX2500 to replace my 7800 go. I'm currently using Extreme-G Mobileforce driver 92.91 (I've tried some of the newer versions but prefer this one). Will this driver be compatible with the FX2500?

2) What are the best drivers for the FX2500 if not Mobileforce?

3) Overclocking... I've read the posts about flashing the 7900GTX bios to enable overclocking, does this mean i cannot overclock using the normal software way. In the Mobileforce drivers for the 7800, the option is in the Advanced Settings options in Windows. Does the FX2500/7950GTX not have this option and is BIOS flashing the only way to overclock the card?

4) If the BIOS flash is to enable voltage adjustments as well as clock adjustments, is this something I need to do or will the card do well with just altered clock speeds?

Dell :: Crysis And GTA IV On M1730

Mar 12, 2009

I'm looking into getting the M1730 w/ X9000 (overclocking it to 3.4 Ghz), 9800M GT in SLi and 4 GB of RAM but I wanted to see how would it perform w/ the most demanding games out there i.e. Crysis and GTA IV.

if their settings and resolutions were maxed out. I know that X9000 is slower than the newer X9100 and QX9300 but is it gonna affect perormance a lot. Is it worth getting X9000 or is this CPU getting old now..

I still want a system that would be powerful enough for the next 2-3 years but I'm a bit hesitat to get the X9000. Can anyone let me know how those 2 games perform on the M1730 if the cpu is overclocked to 3.4 Ghz?..

Dell :: Crysis Blows

Apr 19, 2008

I treated myself to Crysis on Friday night. What a mistake. OK, so I havent got a 3 way SLI rig, water cooled MOFO of a PC. I just have a 7950GTX, dual core 2.0 GHz 1710.

But boy, does Gears of War look amazing on 1400 resolution, so this is going to be OK.

I cant even get the thing running smoothly on low, never mind medium. I have even tweaked the system.cfg file to disable shadows etc. and it still runs like a Pig.

This is lazy programming in my opinion. To write a game that cant run on medium looking half decent, and with decent FPS is just pure lazy. They write this for the minority, not the majority. GOW on the other hand is excellent, they obviously used every trick in the book to get this to look amazing on reasonable spec PCs.

I could of course be wrong, and my computer is screwed...and you are all loving Crysis...in wihch case tell me your secrets!

By the way.....dont make a game that means every scene has 10 million leaves in it.....dont assume we are all millionaires

Dell :: Crysis On 37" Lcd Tv

Jul 19, 2008

yesterday a friend asked me to connect my laptop to my tv and show him crysis
(i only got the demo).

i did that and the result was surprisingly good. i turned the settings to:

all high, no aa, 1366x768 (tv's native res). the video card @ 600/900.

the game ran really smoothly (no stuttering/slowdown) through the whole demo.
and it looked MUCH better than on my laptop screen @ 1440x900.
it looked like with aa applied and the overall picture quality and colour was much
smoother. i guess the lcd makes the picture a little bit blurry & has better colours
than a laptop screen, which makes a more realistic look overall.
in crysis on the laptop screen (native res) the picture looks too sharp making it less
realistic and when i leave the native resolution it just gets ugly.

a big surprise for me was also the great performance. unfortunately i have no chance
to try dx10 (very high), as i don't run vsta. but i heard the to-be-released-soon
crysis: warhead will allow you very high settings, even if running xp.
