Dell :: Ram Upgrade For Inspiron E1505... (speed Q)

Jul 19, 2009

I'm running stock 2x 512 mb 533 Mhz ram right now.

I would like to upgrade but I can't find information about my motherboard ANYWHERE. It's not listed on the dell system specs website, either.

So, my question comes down to which would be better:
PC-5300 (667Mhz) ram with 4-4-4-12 timing or PC-6400 ram (800Mhz) with 5-5-5-18 timing?

What is the maximum speed of memory that the e1505 can use? If it's 667 Mhz, I'm of course going to go for the ram with faster timing, but if it's 800 Mhz then I'll go for the speed. I'm using a 2.0 GHz core 2 if it matters, and all I could find it bios is that it's a mm061 "system

Dell :: Inspiron 6400 / E1505 CPU Upgrade?

Oct 21, 2009

I DID search but found conflicting information.

I have a Dell here that I just picked up free due to having a busted screen and a bad battery. Luckily I have a HUGE pile of dead laptops and had these parts!

The laptop says Inspiron 6400 on it but the service tag shows up as a E1505 on Dell's site. The service tag is 4Q38YB1 if that helps.

I put two 1gb DDR2-800 sticks in (though it comes up as 533MHz) and a 120gb SATA drive in.

Dell :: Inspiron 6400/e1505 Hard Drive Upgrade

Mar 11, 2009

I want to upgrade my laptops hard drive. It currently has a Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM 80GB Hard drive. I want to upgrade to at least 300gb capacity,

preferably not losing out on speed either. Another issue is heat, currently my laptop gets MEGA hot and sometimes even freezes up/slows down (Im pretty sure its because of heat) and I wouldnt want to get a hard drive that runs hotter than the current one.

I dont know whether I need SATA or SATA300, 8MB or 16MB, 2.5" SFF or 2.5"x1/8H. Also, if I got a 5400RPM replacement (effectively downgrading the speed)

would I really notice that much difference ?? I 80% web browse, but the other 20% I video and photo edit and game, and I wouldnt really want to sacrifice performance if it made a big difference.

Dell :: Wireless Performance After 7950GTX Upgrade

Nov 29, 2007

I just upgraded to a 7950GTX,and I now experience a wireless issue that wasn't there before. I have the Dell 1390 minicard. And I have the PA-13 adpater.

Before the upgrade, while sitting next to my wireless router, I would naturally get 5 bars out of 5, now I only get 3 bars, and Dell's wireless utility says my connection quality is poor.

Before the upgrade, I could move all around the house and never get less than 3 bars, now I can't go more than 12 feet from the router before losing the connection.

I thought I could have done something wrong when I opened my lappy, but I just looked at the service manual and the wireless minicard sits below the motherboard, so it's not that.

why I get less performance from my wireless network now that I've upgraded to a 7950GTX ?

HP/Compaq :: Wireless Card And Bluetooth Upgrade

Jul 10, 2009

I have a question concerning self-upgrading of the wireless card and bluetooth.

Long story short, I have a Lenovo T61 that has bluetooth and the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card. However, both the inverter and graphics card (nVidia quadro 140M) have failed. I have determined it is best to buy a new laptop.

I am planning to either buy a HP Pavilion dv6t or dv4t. However, I would like to know if it is possible to forgo getting bluetooth and the wireless-n card when I order this laptop and install these components myself as I already have them from my Lenovo T61. My Lenovo T61 is just going to collect dust, and I am willing to take it apart for the individual parts.

Is it worth the work? I believe I will not have problems taking apart the HP Pavilion and the Lenovo T61 as I am aware of the websites that show you how to take apart these models. But will the HP Pavilion motherboard support the wireless-n card and bluetooth if I originally did not order such components? Will the warranty be affected?

Additional information: I shall be buying the HP Pavilion from Costco.

Acer :: Upgrade Wireless On Gemstone AS8920-6048

May 23, 2008

I am quite tempted to buy the AS8920-6048. This model is available in the USA now and comes with 802.11a/b/g wlan. Due to my need to stream HDTV I'd like to have 802.11n. The AS8920-6671 comes with it and is almost double the price. So the question is can I get the AS8920-6048, replace the a/b/g mini-pcie card by the 4695AGN and be done with it? The latter has 3 antenna leads, while the former only 2 antenna leads. It boils down to whether acer uses the same anteannae setups for all the 8920s and just varies the card, or do they actually put in extra antenna in the as8920-6671?

Dell :: E1505 Won't Power On

May 25, 2010

My parents have an E1505. The battery crapped out after about a year and we've been running on AC power (with the battery in).

Eventually the charger broke at the laptop side plug. We got a new one off ebay (china junk) and it worked for a bit. Now it turns on and shuts right off.

If I remove the battery and run straight AC, it doesn't even power on. The connector is really loose. Any way to fix it?

So basically, the machine just shut off and when I try to turn it on the numlock button lights up, and the caps lock and scroll lock buttons flash.

This lasts for about 30 seconds, and then all power shuts off. Nothing comes up on the screen, and it doesn't even sound like it is trying to work. I've checked all connections, reseated/thermal greased CPU, everything I could think of.

Dell :: Inspiron E1505 Battery

I have E1505 and my battery decided to die today.

I have a simple question. Does anyone tried out those generic 9 cells battery for inspiron 6400 (E1505)? are they any good? most of them (made in China).

I ask this question because they are really cheap (90$ for 9 cells and 60$ for 6 cells) compared to genuine dell batteries (289$ and 160$).

in addition dell genuine batteries for inspiron 6400 are really bad (doesn't last beyond one year), so it is a waste of money to buy these expensive batteries.

I would hate to spend the money for a new processor without knowing that it will work, so my question is will a core 2 work? If not, would a Pentium from the T2000 series such as the T2130 (the T2080's closest relative) work?
