Jan 5, 2010
Im going to upgrade my wireless card to the intel 5300 and Im unsure which antennas to connect.
The one currently has only the white and black connected to aux and main. Ive been searching around to try and find the correct connection procedure, but all I can find is that
I need to connect black, white, and grey, but to which connections on the card? The new card just has 1,2,3 to connect to

After almost 7 services by the *always gentle* Dell techs, im getting a new problem, my WIFI reception is just crud, being right next to my router i get 4 bars... and if i get a little farther apart it will loose signal and oscillate between 3 bars and 1 bar, and sometimes even disconnect all of a sudden on places i always had good signal, and reconnecting will fail a couple of times before its successfully connects. ( ive tried this with several different routers, and the same happens )
is it possible that my WIFI antennas were damaged? or could it also be my wireless card? ( intel N 4950 )
i have already checked where the 3 antennas connect to the card and they seem ok.

I have an X220 with a WWAN card. I don't use it anymore so I will be switching it out for an MSATA. I will then have two spare large antennas. I know that sometimes you want to match antenna size to wavelenght and sometimes you just want a big atenna. If in wifi, you just want it bigger, well, the WWAN antennas are bigger. Should I swap the wires so my wifi gets the bigger antennas?

I recently upgraded to the W7 RC x64 and since then I have been unable to get my wireless to work. I was previously using W7 beta builds x86 and the wireless worked fine. I have a Dell Wireless 1395 card. I am pretty sure that this is a driver issue related to the change to a x64 OS but I can't find anyone else who is having similar problems.
I can locate wireless networks but it just wont connect to them and troubleshooting does not locate the source of the problem. I have tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing the most recent one but to no avail.

Just upgraded my internet to 50mb and they'll be sending a new router with it -
a Netgear Wireless-N Router Wnb2100.
Will the network card on my m1530 work with this?
In device manager its listed as an Intel pro 3945abg
If not, what card should i get and how easy are they to install (i'd prefer not having to use a dongle as most of the time I'm using all 3 usb ports)?

I have the m1530 with the iwl 4965, I have another card, dell (Broadcomm) 1390 mini card.
I was wondering if I can install the other one alongside my 4965? If I am not mistaken, there are more antennas to use.

I've just bought a XPS M1530 Laptop (so excited!). But I have some problem connecting to wireless networks.
My roommates can find and connect to our wireless network, while my machine cannot even find one!! It can't even create wireless networks (ad hoc)
I looked up Dell support, it said to uninstall network driver and restart windows (vista HP, SP1). I did that, after reboot, it could find the available network, but after another reboot, it again didn't work.
I'm pretty sure that nothing is wrong with hardware (since it could find once or twice). But I don know what to do.
System configuration:
Core 2 dua 2.5GHz
Ram: 4GB
Graphic :Geforce 8600gt 256mb
Hard: 320GB
Wireless: Dell Wireless
OS: Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1

if the Intel Ultimate-N 5300 Wireless Wifi Link Card will work on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop?
I currently use the Intel 4965A AGN so i have the 3 antennas connected to it, But i can't find any confirmation that the 5300 will work with the M1530. I see that it says it's for the Centrino 2 but i don't know if it's for a certain motherboard or chipset.

I received my DELL XPS M1530 Last week. When i ordered my dell i made a dumb mistake and didn't select the higher resolution screens. Hence, at the moment my maximum IS 1280X800. I would really like to upgrade to a screen which supports a higher resolution as i use it for Gaming, GFX, editing as well watching movies. Does anyone have any recommendations of an LCD screen which is compatible with XPS M1530?
1440x900 or anything better would be great.
I heard good things about the Lp154We2(Tl)(B2) 15.4" Wsxga+ Lcd, but i can seem to find it anywhere within the UK or europe. The screens
i keep on bumping into is the LP154WE2 (TL)(A1) WSXGA. Is it any good.
My current setup for anyone interested
Vista 32bit Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1Ghz Processor
NvDia Geforce M8600 GT
4Gig Ram
320 Gig 5200rpm HD

I'm looking to buy a M1530 LED WXGA+ screen (1440x900). I currently have the stock 1280x800 CCFL. I have some question that I'm hoping some of you would be able to answer:
Will the LED screen fit normally within the stock CCFL backing/bezel?
I'm looking at screen descriptions, for the LED's I don't see "inverters" listed as included but in some, though not all CCFL have it mentioned in the description, is this something that's no longer required? or is it built into the panel?
What is a good price for these panels? The panel I'm looking at is a Glossy 1440x900 LED screen for $205CAD with shipping and taxes included. Good price? bad? Is it possible to get it cheaper?
Concerning batterylife, I have a 9cell and am averaging of 3.5-4hrs of usage with wifi on and screen in one level just before full brightness on Power save mode. Will I see a very noticable increase in battery life? I keep hearing people spout "30%" are there any actual tests?

I've been out of the hardware game for quite some time. Cisco for 2 years will make you forget stuff.
I have a Dell XPS M1530, T9300 processor. I am wondering if I can upgrade to the T9900. Also, my current processor is 32 bit. Can I get a T9900 in 64 bit, and will it work with my mobo? OS doesn't matter, can redo it. I am trying to beef it up for better gaming. 3gb ram is killing me...
Another question. Just wondering if it is possible to get an i5 or i7 instead? Will the i7 physically fit into the slot? 45nm
Yet another question. The laptop runs hot already. With a processor upgrade, surely it will run hotter.

Does anyone know if there'll be a GPU upgrade for the Dell XPS M1530 in Europe (or on the UK site) any time soon? I'm itching to buy one, but I'd be playing games like Fallout 3 and I've heard that the 8600M GT just doesn't cut it and I was wondering if there's an upgrade coming out sometime in 2009?

I bought my XPS laptop a couple of years ago and got it with the 128 mb GeForce 8400M GS.
I read on a couple of different websites that you could upgrade the XPS videocards on the XPS.
I went to the Dell website upgrade section and when I entered my service tag number, video cards wasn't an option to upgrade; though motherboards were.
Is it possible to upgrade the videocard to the 256 mb GeForce GT; which I should have purchased to begin with? Do I have to buy a new motherboard and put the 256 chip on it? Lastly, is the 256 the only video card I can buy to replace the 128?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 ,I am fixing for someone, originally with a Microsoft Windows Vista but it stopped working(no further info on how) so I tried to install Windows 7(Multiple times(4)) and all it does is stack upon itself (When booting it shows Windows 7, Windows 7,Windows 7, Windows 7,Windows Vista). When installing it goes through but stops on the reboot, I did disconnect the USB, but it gets "frozen" on Starting Windows (on reboot of installation). Safemode stops at system32driversdisk.sys.
I tried using this method; but this is for cd (I am using an external HD) [URL] ....

I just upgrade my E1705 wireless to Intel 4965 AGN. I also installed the third antenna, and my speed stays at only 54Mbps.
The system recognized the third antenna. I have a D-Link DIR-655 N Draft wireless router and have confirm that other laptop with N type down load 300Mbps.
I download the driver from Dell website, and the wireless work, but only at 54Mbps.

I just upgraded to a 7950GTX,and I now experience a wireless issue that wasn't there before. I have the Dell 1390 minicard. And I have the PA-13 adpater.
Before the upgrade, while sitting next to my wireless router, I would naturally get 5 bars out of 5, now I only get 3 bars, and Dell's wireless utility says my connection quality is poor.
Before the upgrade, I could move all around the house and never get less than 3 bars, now I can't go more than 12 feet from the router before losing the connection.
I thought I could have done something wrong when I opened my lappy, but I just looked at the service manual and the wireless minicard sits below the motherboard, so it's not that.
why I get less performance from my wireless network now that I've upgraded to a 7950GTX ?

I have a question concerning self-upgrading of the wireless card and bluetooth.
Long story short, I have a Lenovo T61 that has bluetooth and the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card. However, both the inverter and graphics card (nVidia quadro 140M) have failed. I have determined it is best to buy a new laptop.
I am planning to either buy a HP Pavilion dv6t or dv4t. However, I would like to know if it is possible to forgo getting bluetooth and the wireless-n card when I order this laptop and install these components myself as I already have them from my Lenovo T61. My Lenovo T61 is just going to collect dust, and I am willing to take it apart for the individual parts.
Is it worth the work? I believe I will not have problems taking apart the HP Pavilion and the Lenovo T61 as I am aware of the websites that show you how to take apart these models. But will the HP Pavilion motherboard support the wireless-n card and bluetooth if I originally did not order such components? Will the warranty be affected?
Additional information: I shall be buying the HP Pavilion from Costco.

I am quite tempted to buy the AS8920-6048. This model is available in the USA now and comes with 802.11a/b/g wlan. Due to my need to stream HDTV I'd like to have 802.11n. The AS8920-6671 comes with it and is almost double the price. So the question is can I get the AS8920-6048, replace the a/b/g mini-pcie card by the 4695AGN and be done with it? The latter has 3 antenna leads, while the former only 2 antenna leads. It boils down to whether acer uses the same anteannae setups for all the 8920s and just varies the card, or do they actually put in extra antenna in the as8920-6671?

My Dell 1505 wireless N card is a constant headache, If I hide my ssid the card detects and connects to my router but I can never access the internet. It may work sometimes but most of the time my SSID has to be on.
I have tested this with two different routers and the results were the same, vista shows local access only
.
I have tried using drivers from laptopvideo2go and reimaging the computer, I am now fed up and want to get a new wifi car

Firstly I apologize if this has been asked earlier, but I couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a 1530 on order. The OS will be Vista Premium x86. There are 2 things I need to do-
1. Upgrade the HD from a 5400 to a 7200, I have the HD.
2. Install Windows Vista Business - I have an original retail version, and I absolutely need this.
I have the Vista Business Retail DVD. What I want to do is have Windows and the dell partitions configured exactly as they came with the original computer, only with Vista Business, and on the new hard disk. I don't want to alter Media Direct, or delete the restoration partition. Everything should be the same except the Windows Versio

I think something similar has been posted here before. In essence, I find that when I use my VX Revolution (or is it MX? Whichever one is the mobile version), the mouse occasionally loses its wireless connection to the computer, and so I have to click multiple times to get it to register.
This is annoying enough for me to consider getting a wired mouse, but I want to know if I get something like an MX518 if I'm still going to run into the disconnect/lag issue.
In other words, is it a wireless issue or a Logitech/PC/Mac conflict issue? I experienced both with and without the Logitech software installed. The software is currently installed.
