My HDD says I have 188 out of 451GB. I can account for most of it and I calculate I should have 100GB more.
My program files(x86) properties is 63.1GB, program files= 9.32GB, Documents = 23.5, music = 9.53. photos and vids are under a gig. Autodesk = 26.4GB. Windows = 23.2GB
Any one know of tools to track down what is consuming space on a hard drive partition?
I am trying to provide remote support for my mother-in-law's Inspiron 8200. Last summer I put in a new HDD and maxed the RAM to get a couple more years out of it. I partitioned the drive into 10GB and 70GB. I installed Win XP home + all service packs and updates, prgrams etc. on C:.
I moved "My Documents" to the second partition, the drive letter ended up as E: for the second partition (optical drive is D. She only has about 3 GB of data so there should not be any issues.
She recently called saying that attempting to install TurboTax resulted in an insufficient disk space error. When I had her look into it, C: is almost full, 9.5GB used. This seems unreasonable to me. I have a couple of other laptops configured similarly and the OS and programs only take about 6.5GB. This lady is not one to install lots of stuff.
My daughter is there visiting so I had her read me the space taken by each folder in the C: partition. Adding up the numbers it seems that there is at least a couple of gig unaccounted for. Do I have to actually go into every folder to find any space hogs? Nothing I heard so far seems unreasonably large.
I am suspecting some kind of bug or spyware is creating a file that is consuming the space on C:. I had a problem with Zone Alarm 9 creating a ridiculous log file on one of my boxes but she is not running ZA.
E: has plenty of space only the 3GB of data in My Docs.
I am puzzled to see that part of my 320 gb 7200 drive is not recognized. A right click on C drive states that I have 282 GB left out of 297GB. I do not want to move forward with my install before accounting for this space. So...anyone have any advice?
As I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 it has a a few of Dell specific driver I must install or I wil not have certain features. I am not thinking dock here. Bios ,chipset, IDT Sc. Windows grabbed the latest driver for the Radeon 3670 but not the Catalyst SW. Nor would I want it to. Has anyone dl'd the latest Catalyst suite? Any fellow xps owners out there test driven Dell's drivers on Win 7 pro yet?
I have a Dell Mini 9, and it is steadily and repeatedly losing what little disk space I have. I ran AVG and panda security and got nothing.
I've done disk cleanup and cleared the history, cache, cookies, and restore points. It's STILL losing space. It'll go up when I restart but then immediately start dropping.
There are no games or music or movies on this thing. I even took all my text files out. The only programs that were added after I got it were office, firefox, and avg.
I have a Inspiron 1300 that I want to upgrade it Hard drive. I found a site that offers 250 GB of space. The site says it for the Inspiron 1300 , but I wonder if that's true
I originally purchased my E1705 with a 60GB 7200RPM drive. I believe at the time it was mainly to save a few bucks and that the largest 7200RPM available may have been around 120GB and added $200 to the price of the machine.
I am constantly finding myself uninstalling applications and looking for things to delete to save space on this tiny little drive, it has gotten to the point that it is a hassle. I recently moved my music library to an external USB drive to free up about 20GB only to fill it again right away by installing Visual Studio 2008 and the MSDN Library.
I need more drive space!
I know there are a ton of options out there for drives which I can easily swap right into this machine but I am having a tough time trying to decide if I am willing to sacrifice the added speed of a 7200RPM drive for the additional space offered by the largest of the 2.5" drives.
I use this machine for everything, it is my primary computer so having the fastest available options is desirable. I frequently render digital video for the creation of DVDs and believe it or not I perform this function currently on external USB drives because of the space issues. Having th space to move this to the primary drive with the full speed interface will be a big plus.
My hard drive is partitioned C:58.5Gig, D:397Gig.The C drive quickly filled up with programs. I have 100% of my files/photos/music on the D drive and have 346 gig free on D. Is there a way to increase the C alllocation as it is generally full and bogs things down.
I just did a semiclean install and clocked in at just over 16 gb. I've installed a few small programs and now i'm up over 22gb. I've already done all the obvious things such as turning off system restore, turning off hibernation, removing sp1 install files, etc.
The biggest problem is my winsxs folder, which windows explorer puts at 11.1gb. I've read that this number may be a little inflated, but it's right in line with tune up utilities 09. I don't want to delete something useful, but the size of this folder is crazy. I've done some research on the point of this folder, but i never had problems in xp with dlls and i could install xp twice in the size this folder occupies. There is 3gb worth of microsoft-windows-naturallanguage6 files. Microsoft-windows-moviesamples is 150 mb. There is also an into movie for media center that's 50mb. Are there files that I can safely delete or do I just have to bend over and take it?
a 200 GB computer but only 190 GB is made accessible to you. I know why I don't get all 200 GB I pay for, and this thread wasn't made for anyone to discuss that.
All I want to know is if I get a 500 GB 13" MBP today ... How much HDD space will be made available to me per "My system" or "My Mac" (Whatever is the Apple equivalent of right clicking and hitting properties in Windows).
I want a 500 GB HDD because I want to carry my Time Machine backups with me. By the way, I've never owned a Mac ... I've toyed around with them at Bestbuy and what not, I don't need OSX, but I just cannot find another laptop that has the style and durability of a aluminum chassis of the MBP.
EDIT: On a side note, would it be cheaper to get the 13" stock model and upgrade the HDD myself? Does anyone know what 2.5" HDDs out there are compatible with the MBP? I'm hoping to get a 500GB or 1TB (7200 rpm) version.
I have noticed lately that my space bar sticks sometimes. I can be tying and when I look up I see words grouped together without spaces.. I've tried hitting the spacebar hard but I still get the same results.
I have tried using a keyboard and that works fine, so it must be my laptop.
I have a VAIO VGN-AW21Z with a small solid state C Drive which is becoming megga full and in the red So I need to take action and uninstall some of the pre-loaded crap.
Have been down the list and removed all the things I feel confident about but there are some other large files there which I am unsure about and hope some of you can tell me what they do. As I only use my lappie to process photos using Adobe PS, a bit of iTunes, web browsing and emailing........ so I don't need any other specialist type stuff (gaming or producing videos etc).
The following list are what I would like to remove if I knew it is safe to do so.
What do they do? Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (759mb) VAIO BD Menu data (969mb) VAIO DVD Menu Data Basic (543mb) VAIO Wallpaper Contents (134mb) WinDVD BD for VAIO (113mb)
ALSO this machine runs on VISTA and I heard that Windows 7 is a far smaller file. Is it possible to upgrade to 7 and to delete Vista? That might make a huge difference if it is possible?
I purchased a VGN-SR430J/B and I cleaned it with killdisk and installed windows 7 32bit.
This model comes with a 320GB HDD, yet when I go to my computer it says that I have 273GB free of 287GB total. So I assume the 14GB (287-273) being used is somehow the 2.5 GB Windows 7 32bit. But 320 - 287 is 33GB, where did it go? Where can I look?
there is something I am not able to understand. After I upgraded RAM to 4Gb (from 2Gb) with original Apple RAM. I ran an H/W check (the short and the long one) at next boot and everything was OK (NFF). In spite of this I noted that there were 2Gb less on my HDD and I do not really understand why. Do you have any idea on the reason of this event?
Was it because of the H/W check? Or something odd after RAM upgrade?
why this happened (if you got an idea) and what I could do in order to recover these 2GB (I have plenty of space now but I would prefer to have 2Gb of photos / mp3 instead of stolen space).
I have just purchased the Acer Aspire ES1-512 laptop from Tesco, the laptop will be used for college assignments so will involve a lot of typing. The keys are fine apart from the space bar which is pretty much hit and miss, press the centre of the space bar it works fine, but when pressing the edges or near to the bottom of the space bar and it only works some times and others it doesn't work at all. This means going back and having to put in the missing spaces on documents which is pretty time consuming.
I just realized that the sony recovery partition uses up 8gb of space and was wondering if there is a way to delete and merge this partition to the primary partition?
In the bottom right corner, a message keeps popping up saying " Low disk space on hard drive D" and the hp total care advisor says I have 5% free space on drive C.
My laptop is only 2 years old. I tried running disk defragmenter, disk cleanup, and I uninstalled a bunch of programs I dont use anymore. None of them helped with this error.
I have an HP Elitebook 6390P; I remember seeing for the Thinkpads someone could remove the CDROm Drive and put a hard drive into this slot and then put into the cdrom drive.
Sending my brand new ENVY back for service (on its first day...boo) but baffled as to what might cause this.
Everything works fine on the system except for a handful of keyboard keys:
Space Enter Backspace Up/down arrows (left and right are fine) Possibly alt (tough to test without the others)
Space bar will send a combination of characters, like zzc^X^Z if you press it a few times (often one press will send all of those characters, while other presses send nothing).
I have had my dv5t 6 days. Every time I check, there is less and less space and I am doing nothing really but surfing and e-mailing, and trying to get the TV tuner to work right. lLast night there was 177GB free, shut it down and went to bed. Checked it after a half hour or so this morning and there was 175 GB, now here I sit in the library and I just checked it again after e-mailing and downloading a 2mb file, and there is 173 GB free. I haven't even begun to use it. Juse a few days ago there was 183.
i have installed windows xp on my macbook intel core2Duo 1.83 GHZ, 80GB, 1GB DDRII, 12"" using bootcamp assistant, i restored it using bootcamp, it took about 8 hours but thr process still didnt go successful, and i turned off my mac book, now windows partition has been removed but it shows used space 35 GB and available 5 GB, where did my remaining space go? and for your info i havnt mac installation disk as iam using my friends macbook.
I am using a HP Pavilion g7-1277dx Notebook PC Model:QE308UA with Windows 7. For some reason, my backups are being saved to the HP_Tools partition and I can't seem to change it. As a result, a window keeps popping up that says Low Disk Space.
My space bar isn't, I have to press on it very hard and sometimes many times to get it to move/space.It seems like it's lower on one side, nothing has happened to it to cause it.
How hard is it to take the keyboard off? AspireV5-552-X814. Or is there a way to fix without keyboard removal.
I have a acer aspire 5050 laptop/notebook and everytime I try to watch a video on youtube or just search the internet, it's slow and the words "low disk space" pops up. I click the button that is suppose to clean the files but when it's done the words "low disk space" pops up again. Can you help me with this problem?
I've opened the my computer and I see Acer (C) It has 0% free space. Underneath acer (C) it says 8.35 MB free of 33.5 GB. I also see Data (D) underneath data d I see 33.1 GB free of 33.2 GB. The last thing I see is something that says unspecified, and underneath it it says DVD RW Drive (E). I don't know what to do next.
When the Timeline series came out, I figured it was the new laptop that I wanted to get and spent the last month or so trying to decide which version to get. When newegg ran the 13" with the SU9400 and the 80GB SSD I figured that was the one for the price. My old laptop had an 80GB HD in it and I only used about 40, so why would I need a 500GB HD? Well I finally bought it and got it yesterday. I've been playing around with it for a day and was deleting some of the garbage installed on it like 20 games! After a while of that I checked to see how much space was on the HD and to my surprise it said 28.0GB Free of 60.5GB!
