Anyone else having problems with DCP 1.3000 A12 (or something like that) on Vista x64?
Specs are in my sig.
Basically, after installing the newest DCP today, I lost control of screen brightness and the Auto-Light Sensor, meaning I can't change the brightness levels, NOR does the ALS affect brightness levels. I still have control of the keyboard backlight though.
After trying the 2 older DCP versions on Dell's site, the results were the same. The ALS version never changed.
How do you disable it from the software? Is disabling the service for it the only way?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone used the newest version of Control Point System Manager software?
They really really dumbed it down as now you don't have the ability to individually turn off things (SD card reader, DVD/CD Rom, etc).
If anyone does any type of power management with individual parts I'd highly advise them to avoid this version.
Just got my E4300. There are a few things bugging me about the unit such as the touchpad and touchpad buttons.
But one of the real annoying things is the Control Point.
Especially for wi-fi.
Once the computer is running, I can see at least four items on my system tray associated with wifi, or connecting to it.
How can I simply let the windows wifi manage my wifi?
For some reason,
when I hybernate or go on standby, the wifi (managed by Control Point) doesn't automatically connect again. I have to disable my wifi and enable it again to find my router. Or Reboot.
Very annoying.
It also completely disables the windows built wifi. So "repair" wifi doesn't work because it doesn't even see my network.
So, Is it ok to disable simply the wifi portion of the control point?
Better yet, what's the proper way of doing this?
I'm fine with the other stuff, I just find the wireless networking portion of it annoying.
Which DCP (Dell Control Point) I should install? I want to control Volume and Display brightness only. Nothing else.
I do not want to install DCP for security, power saving, etc because last time I installed security and power saving DCP, it caused me disaster.
If anyone knew which app and if they allow me to install: Volume + Display brightness control only,
I want to have my system as much sleek and slim as possible, which are the DCP modules I have to install and which ones I can delete
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a custom fw series from sony style. Its great, apart from the performance. I have a 2.4ghz, 320gb 5400rpm, 4gb ddr2 ram, ati 3650 model, but internet browsing seems slow compared to my sisters 2.4ghz 2gb ddr3 ram macbook unibody.
I guess this is because of all the applications on the sony. I do not do any photo/video editing stuff all I do on the laptop is internet browsing, movie watching, listen to music and do office documents.
Does anyone know what I can safely uninstall to reduce the processes number, most of the time its 98, and thereby increase the performance.
Currently windows task manager says the cpu usage is 12% and physical memory is 40%, I have no idea what that means so if someone could explain I'd be very grateful.
One final point, I have heard that new computer owners are supposed to create recovery disks? What are these and are they actually needed?
I just bought a Dell E6400 and it has a fingerprint reader! However, the Dell ControlPoint isn't installed. Any link to whatever I need?
It's windows 7 pro, 64 bit
Weird question, but: why is it that in Apple Mail, I can set an outgoing font to 15-point Calibri and have it look identical to an incoming Office 2007 user's message sent from Outlook (and in fact, "show fonts" shows it as 15-point Calibri), but in Word 2008, if I were to set it to 15-point Calibri, it would be huge compared to what I remember it as in Office 2007?
Its default in Office '07 is 11 point, if memory serves. To my eyes, 10-point zoomed to 150% looks normal, but I definitely do not remember this.
Is this just a function of OSX's 72 dpi versus Windows's 96 dpi? I'd hate to send an email at 15-point Calibri, have it look like an 11-point Calibri message in Outlook '07 on the Windows size, and end up having my recipient get an email with a HUGE font.
I've looked at messages I've sent using 14- or 15-point Calibri in Outlook 2010 in Windows 7 via Boot Camp, and it looks like I'd expect 11-point Calibri to look.
I've found out there's newer drivers for my Studio laptop for webcam, wireless, etc.
I updated the BIOS and it went fine. My question is do I have to uninstall current driver before installing new one? On Dell web site, they only give general instructions and don't mention this.
If I install new driver over the old one, will I have 2 versions and can go back (in device manager) if the new driver doesn't work as well
I've given up on Safari 4. I've deleted the plist, I've resetted Safari, and it still crashes on me almost every 10 minutes. So, is it possible to uninstall Safari 4? If so, how? what I want to do is to unisntall Safari 4, and reinstall Safari 3.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy brand new Z 890 series came directly from Sonystyle with Win 7 Ultimate installed and lots of additional 'junk' software that I don't want. This is not the fresh start veresion. Since the recovery discs that I made does not allow for a clean install, I figure I'll just have to UNINSTALL as much stuff that I don't need as possible.
Is there a post or guide somewhere as to all the stuff that I can safely uninstall using Windows Uninstall program? (It does have Bluray so I need to keep whatever is necessary for that.)
I want to take out all the demo software such as Office 2007 trial, Norton trial etc but thought I'd ask if there are more that I can uninstall safely.
Dated 6 Jan 2009 - now controls the WiFi card.
I'm just downloading it...
I've read the forum on remoing the bloatware and also several articles from 2007 that say Dell was giving the option of not having the addition programs installed on XPS systems. I saw no such option when I ordered so I was curious about this in regards to the studio xps 16.
My questions are how much bloatware is actually still being installed? How hard is it to remove and does it actually speed the computer up? Are there any other advantages to removing it such as less heat from not running as much/hard? And finally are there any programs worth keeping ie Dell dock etc...? Many opinions will be appreciated and thanks.

I am at a repartitioned laptop now. The C drive still has the factory settings from before the repartitioning. Now its time to pick a free uninstall program to get rid of the junkware?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ordered my SXPS 16 a few days ago. Is there really enough bloatware that it's that important to reformat once I get my laptop, or will simply uninstalling via the Programs & Features menu be sufficient to get rid of the crap I don't want?
Another question: When I get my free Win7 upgrade DVD in October, will it be advisable to reformat then (and can you reformat via an upgrade disk?) or will simply doing an upgrade install of Windows 7 be just fine?
I'd rather avoid the hassle of doing any reformatting, but if bloatware is that big of an issue, then I probably should.
I've read all over the internet how some people, upon buying a branded laptop/notebook, immediately format and reinstall Vista in order to drop some of the bloatware that comes pre-installed, taking up resources.
How prudent is this practice with regards to DELL's laptops -
in particular the XPS 16? I imagine a lot of the bloatware can easily be removed using Vista's add/remove utility; however some people seem to have trouble completely getting rid of some DELL security software
When I first got my Y2P I tried to pair my phone with it to use that silly Lenovo SMS utility. That was 4 monts ago and I am at my wits end trying to UN install my phone. I cannot get my computer to pair to anything other than my bt mouse. Have tried headphones and keyboards... no go!!!
It cannot even connect to my phone!!! I have tried...
-Manually removed all bluetooth drivers and my phone's driver. Including showing hidden devices.
-Deleted the drivers using intel's driver removal tool
-Installed new drivers
-Tried every method for removing drivers that shows up on search engines on the first two pages.
how to uninstall Lenovo Smile Dock? I have a Lenovo Y560. After some fairly thorough googling I have not been able to find this out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Pavilion 15-n228us Notebook with Windows 8.1 in April. Several weeks ago, I searched for Microsoft Photo Editor, which I thought included in Start Menu, somehow, I was guided to some site for a free download. To make a long story short, I accidentally downloaded some unwelcome adwares - not mention I still don't have the photo Editor. Anyway, I removed most these programs through Control Panel - Uninstall Program except the last one. This one is called "blasteroids", every time when I tried to uninstall it, it gave me a message of "SEIS (or EISS??) launching failure" and Norton 360 popped up saying an installer with .exe file containing Trojan virus was blocked. So now I am not able to remove this "blasteroids" and it pops up ads every time when I visit a website.
My question is: how do I remove this virus attached program?
I have HP pavilion n010ek, I installed the hp pc hardware diagnostics uefi from the drivers section in this site, everything worked well , and a partition is made like in the picture (HP_TOOLS F: ) , unless i want to uninstall it but i couldn't find it in the control panel, how can i uninstall the hp pc hardware diagnostics uefi ?

When I now try to upgrade to Windows 8.1 I get a message asking me to previously uninstall RapidBoot. However I cannot find RapidBoot on this machine. How can I uninstall it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Lenovo Thinkpad SL 410, and am curious as to if it's ok to get rid of some bloat ware. I'm using PC Decrapifier to get rid of things like Norton, which constantly send pop-ups on start up taking up memory and bogging down the system all together.
I don't use any of the features such as thinkvantage toolbox, mainly because it takes 5 minutes to load up and then another 5 minutes to load each page, or even scroll down certain logs. This was happening the day I booted the system so it is not a malware concern.
Before I go ahead and uninstall random things, I like to do some research and see if I need it and if it will ruin my laptop with out it. So far I haven't seemed to be able to find anything on getting rid of certain built in software like Lenovo's Thinkvantage Toolbox.
I just purchased 2 Dell Studio 16 XPS with Windows 7.
I want to take off bloatware from my notebook, as well as put it into XP mode.
Does anyone have any info on what bloatware to remove on the Dell Studio 16 XPS Windows 7 version? Or just a list of what bloatware is safe to remove?
I followed the Bloatware removal guide on my new XPS laptop and I forgot that it came with a free year of Lojack protection.
I did not register it with Lojack before the reformat. Is there a way to do that now? I have found a couple threads but nothing is definite
I would like to disable the Pointstick on my E6330. Have looked everywhere in Mouse and Dell Touchpad properties but can't find any reference to the point stick.
