Dell :: E6500 Control Point

How do you disable it from the software? Is disabling the service for it the only way?

Dell :: Control Point 1.3

Oct 14, 2009

Anyone else having problems with DCP 1.3000 A12 (or something like that) on Vista x64?

Specs are in my sig.

Basically, after installing the newest DCP today, I lost control of screen brightness and the Auto-Light Sensor, meaning I can't change the brightness levels, NOR does the ALS affect brightness levels. I still have control of the keyboard backlight though.

After trying the 2 older DCP versions on Dell's site, the results were the same. The ALS version never changed.

Dell :: Control Point System Manager

Feb 8, 2010

Has anyone used the newest version of Control Point System Manager software?

They really really dumbed it down as now you don't have the ability to individually turn off things (SD card reader, DVD/CD Rom, etc).

If anyone does any type of power management with individual parts I'd highly advise them to avoid this version.

Dell :: How Do I Disable Control Point WiFi

Apr 17, 2009

Just got my E4300. There are a few things bugging me about the unit such as the touchpad and touchpad buttons.
But one of the real annoying things is the Control Point.

Especially for wi-fi.
Once the computer is running, I can see at least four items on my system tray associated with wifi, or connecting to it.

How can I simply let the windows wifi manage my wifi?
For some reason,

when I hybernate or go on standby, the wifi (managed by Control Point) doesn't automatically connect again. I have to disable my wifi and enable it again to find my router. Or Reboot.

Very annoying.
It also completely disables the windows built wifi. So "repair" wifi doesn't work because it doesn't even see my network.

So, Is it ok to disable simply the wifi portion of the control point?
Better yet, what's the proper way of doing this?

I'm fine with the other stuff, I just find the wireless networking portion of it annoying.

Apple :: Why 10-point Calibri In Word 2008 Looks Like 15-point Calibri In Mail

Mar 31, 2010

Weird question, but: why is it that in Apple Mail, I can set an outgoing font to 15-point Calibri and have it look identical to an incoming Office 2007 user's message sent from Outlook (and in fact, "show fonts" shows it as 15-point Calibri), but in Word 2008, if I were to set it to 15-point Calibri, it would be huge compared to what I remember it as in Office 2007?

Its default in Office '07 is 11 point, if memory serves. To my eyes, 10-point zoomed to 150% looks normal, but I definitely do not remember this.

Is this just a function of OSX's 72 dpi versus Windows's 96 dpi? I'd hate to send an email at 15-point Calibri, have it look like an 11-point Calibri message in Outlook '07 on the Windows size, and end up having my recipient get an email with a HUGE font.

I've looked at messages I've sent using 14- or 15-point Calibri in Outlook 2010 in Windows 7 via Boot Camp, and it looks like I'd expect 11-point Calibri to look.

Apple :: How Do I 'point' Home Folders To Different Drives

Aug 23, 2009

I have a SSD/HDD setup in my 13" MBP, 60GB and 500GB respectively, that being said, I want to make the link to "Movies, Torrent, and Applications" go there.

For Torrent and Applications it's easy, move the folders, delete the original, set an alias in the home folder. Done. (My application folder is for storing Games, and other Apps that are either OSX or WIndows apps, not the actual App folder that OSX uses for programs.)

Anyways, I create a Movies folder on my other HDD, and go to delete the old Movies folder on the SSD/OSX Drive, and OSX tells me, "You cannot delete because this folder is required by OSX."

OK, but how do I get it to link to the new drive?

In Win 7 I remember just opening properties, and clicking 'set target folder' and bam it's done. I did this a lot back then.

ALSO, If I UNMOUNT my second HDD, does it 'shut off' and 'stop consuming power'?

I realised I can re-mount it in Disk Utilities, and probably with a Unix command.

I just wanna save power when I'm mobile, by not having to use the spinner.

HP Envy 17 :: Suddenly Goes Into Hibernation - Won't Charge Past Certain Point

Dec 18, 2014

Starting last week my laptop has been experience some battery issues. I noticed first that when it got to around 25 or 30% battery, it would suddenly go into sleep mode (at least, that's what I think it's doing. When I plug it in and turn it back on, the HP loading screen appears, but everything else returns to exactly how it was). Once back on, the battery has been reduced to 1%.

Also, it won't charge past certain percentages, which are gretting progressively lower. At first it was 98%, then 93%, and at the moment 35%.  It will say that it is charging, however.

When I use HP Support Assistant, my battery displays as "Okay". My friend used a program that drained my battery as fast as it could (I can't remember what that type of program is called) and I think he said that it did it in about 25 minutes or so, which is expected of a laptop of this age (about a year and a half old).

HP/Compaq :: Video Card, Keyboard And Point-stick -- Comparison

Jan 21, 2010

Im interested in the HP ProBook 6540b:

I presently have a Lenovo T500 with the ATI 3650 video card, primarily use the UltraNav mouse (similar to point-stick), and regard the Lenovo keyboard as being pretty nice. Yes, i actually DO think the T61 keyboard was better.. but that's besides the point. What I want to know is..

How does the 3650 compare to the 4550?
How does the ultranav compare to the point-stick?
How is the keyboard in comparison to a Lenovo?

My desire is to have a number pad, nearly equivalent keyboard, faster graphics (its newer, it should be better), and hopefully, the point-stick doesn't drift like my Lenovo does. I don't do CAD, only light video encoding, and I fully intend to play Diablo-iii if it ever comes out.

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y510p Won't Boot Correctly After Restoring To Previous Point

So I purchased my lenovo y510 (base model) in November of last year, and hasn't acted up at all until now. Before you ask I have tried to restore my computer to a previous point before it had this problem but it didn't work.

What happened was I restarted my computer, and then it went off, turned back on, went to the lenovo screen without a spinning loading circle, and then turned off and right back on again, determined to do the same perpetual cycle over and over again.

I have tried restoring and taking out battery with no luck.

Dell :: E6500 Fan Always On

Sep 8, 2009

Got a new E6500 last week, and I love it! I got the audio crackling to go away, though there are minor latency spikes every couple minutes,

that however don't affect the audio/video. The screen is wonderful, the keyboard, everything.

But one thing that bugs me is that when the fan starts going it will never stop. According to HWMonitor, my processor (P8800) can be at 29-30 deg C (right above ambient!) and the Nvidia card at 43 deg C and it won't stop! It's extremely annoying

Dell :: E6500

Sep 29, 2008

I managed to buy a E6500 through a special promo at my university. Although I wanted an integrated graphic card (I'm not going to do *any* gaming so the nvidea cards are completely useless for me, right?), the promotion was limited to the nvidia 160.

Now what do I see upon receipt, they screwed up at dell: they delivered a notebook with the intel graphic card and no bluetooth. I've noticed them and they'll replace the notebook. Now I was thinking if I would be able to make a deal with Dell: send me the BT card that I'll install myself and some compensation for the missing graphic card (which I actually didn't want anyway).

Would I be able to pull off something like that, and what 'compensation' would you try to get (I already have max RAM, extra 6 cell battery, mouse, ...)

Dell :: E6500 With SDD

Jan 19, 2009

I'm planning on getting an E6500 with the 64GB SSD (performance option - I assume this is the Samsung SLC version).

It's my understanding that SSD's run a lot hotter ( since they are solid state chips) than a corresponding conventional HDD.

I would also think that they would consume less power than the conventional HDD, but what about the additional heat causing the fan to come on more often and/or at higher speeds? Would this negate the power savings?

Any comments would be appreciated. Also, FWIW I will be sticking with the Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics.

Dell :: E6500 Fingerprint Xp

Oct 31, 2008

I recently purchased a Latitude E6500 with fingerprint reader. I was so impressed with the Studio15 that I had. Here is the problem the software with the E6500 doesn't let you login on websites or programs, like the Studio did.
When contacted Dell they stated that it will only work with Vista. My E6500
came preloaded with XP Pro. So I bit the bullet and downgraded to Vista.
Guess what still no use except to log into windows. Wave software SUCKS!
Does any one know of software that will work in XP with the Latitude?
Digitalpersona does not have a XP version yet. Yet on my Studio I converted to XP and it worked. Anyone have a link to the fingerprint software on the Studio?

Dell :: E6500 Slowing WAY Down With NVS 160

Jan 4, 2009

I just play a few games here and there and I am seeing my system slow WAY down when even just doing light gaming. Is anyone else having these issues? I have the NVS 160 and the T9600 and even playing games like Command and Conquer Generals Zero hour which is a game that is several years old, I have to play it at 1024*768 with details turn down to min just to get the game not to spit and get jumpy. Its like it freezes every 2 seconds for a half sec or so..

I have speedfan monitoring temps for CPU and GPU and both are well within normal ranges, infact the fan is not even turning much past 4000 RPM and GPU getting no hotter then 64C at MAX..

Any ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I just feel that the NVS 160 should be able to play a 3 year old game MUCH better then it is...

Dell :: E6400/E6500

Sep 18, 2008

I've been wavering back and forth between the T500 & E6500 for the past few weeks, but been pretty satisfied with our past Dell fleet and their service.

Up to Monday I was pretty much set on the E6500's, but I'm starting to see more and more threads about troublesome issues on the E-series. Things that would certainly bother me and my team.

Maybe we can keep track of all the issues and hopefully resolutions to them on this thread.

Here's what I've compiled so far:
Let me know what else to add.

1. Poor quality WXGA+ LED screens
Disappointed with LED LCD in E6400
E6400 vs. XPS M1330 LED Screens

2. Drifting Trackpad / Lack of proper sensitivity adjustments
E6500 TrackPoint drifting badly

3. Keyboard issues
E6500 TrackPoint drifting badly

4. DVD burner problems
Latitude E-Series DVD Burner troubles

5. Crackling/poor audio
e6500 crackling audio

6. Random lockups

Dell :: Latitude E6500

Jan 29, 2009

I just got my dell Outlet e6500 today and I have a few questions/issues that you may be able to help me with:

1) when I opened it up, there's a small piece of plastic broken off the right side of the laptop (the piece is actually in the plastic bag that the laptop was in, so I assume it broke in shipping?).

If you look at the picture to which I've linked below from the review on this site (not actually my own picture),

it's the piece just to the immediate left of the wireless switch, along the bottom of the side, about 1 inch long (some kind of bay or card reader).....

Dell :: E6500 Configuration

May 18, 2009

I am in the process of ordering a new e6500. I have been reading through the forum for the last week and I came to the following configuration but would like to clarify a couple of questions.

Just an idea of what laptops I have, I am using Latitude D610, Latitude D620, Thinkpad T60. This might give you an idea of what I am used to. I find T60 is the best overall, D620 very mobile but slow, D610 ok and stable.

Here is what I am thinking for the e6500.

Latitude E6500 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz, 3M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Operating Systems Genuine Windows Vista Business Bonus-Windows XP Professional downgrade
Memory 4.0GB, DDR2-800 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
Internal Keyboard Internal English Backlit Keyboard
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
250GB Hard Drive, 7200RPM with Free Fall Sensor
No Fingerprint Reader
15.4” UltraSharp™ Wide WXGA+ (1440x900) LED Display-Brushed Metal Black
Dell Wireless® 370 Bluetooth Module
Modem Internal 56K Modem
8X DVD+/-RW w/Roxio and Cyberlink Power DVD™
Camera / Microphone Integrated Webcam with digital microphone
Intel® WiFi Link 5300 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card
Intel vPro™ Technology’s advanced mgmt features are Off for future use

This machine will be used mainly for the Internet and not so demanding applications.

Now,

1) What do you think overall? Any issues to watch for?

2) Should I go for the WUXGA? I have been reading about the small font but was not sure. My T60 is set to 1280x800

3) I read about HDD noise, should I downgrade to 5400 or maybe upgrade to SSD?

Dell :: E6500 LED Screens

Mar 21, 2009

I saw that the contrast ratio of the E6500 screen is something like 650 as is the Studio 15 's 1440x900 screen.

Is there a general consensus that these are superior to the 14.1" LED screens? I am led to believe that the T400 and E6400 are using the same Samsung/LG LED screens. I have seen the T400 and sent it right back b/c I got a Samsung screen that looked like milk. It was bad.

Is there a lottery to the Studio 15 and E6500 or will any LG or Samsung or AUO or Chi-Mei panel do? Are you guys pretty much happy with these screens? The notebook check or notebook journal numerical evaluation would put these screens on par with macbook pro, at half the price.
