View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Inspiron 1440 laptop running on Windows 7; I have always had the problem with the cursor jumping all over the place and sometimes it just deleted the whole of document by itself. So frustrated to use. I just found that it's a known problem as it happens to many of the other models. What does Dell Support have to say about this? It takes me forever to type this message as it keeps jumping around wherever the mouse pointer is.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately I have been having problems with the touchpad this week, started with freezing sometimes, which I typed in google to see another have this problem and to switch setting of touchpad to no delays, which worked as freezing hasn't happened at all anymore at the moment....and later in week, having some difficulty when typing when I click to type in a certain place but then the blinker moves elsewhere, problems with copying and pasting sometimes, as when I copy to highlight upwards, the page did not come up immediately when I slowly moved the mouse up as you do, but when it finally went up, it highlighted the entire document. Doesn't happen all the time....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and while typing, the cursor frequently jumps around and will begin typing in a previously typed line. This is extremely frustrating. I am running Windows 8 and have looked to find where I can adjust the sensitivity of my touchpad but can't find it anywhere. I've seen other posts for other computers that suggest uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling it. What I should do for my specific laptop to stop this from happening? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver. If so, how do I do that for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 running Windows 8? I'm also keeping my hands off the touchpad while typing but the cursor still moves.

I have noticed that while typing, the cursor my move back to a different position in the line, move to a previous line, or jump to another text box altogether. It drives me crazy that when I type, I never know if there is some combination of keys or if I accidently touch something to make the cursor change position.
Is there by default some combination of keys that cause cursor movement. It has happened 4 times while typing this message.
Can this be turned off?

It is very frustrating and some tiesm a simple email can take a long time to type...
I teach online and my new Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3520 is useless. I cannot use it in online chat with students because now the cursor is moving to other lines of text and inserting my typing. I uninstalled the touchpad driver as that seems to be something recommended here. I tried to reinstall from the Dell website and it failed. So now I not only have an awful computer but a useless one. I'm regretting the Dell decision after just a week.

The laptop is setup with both Win 7 & 8 and it happens in both Windows versions. How to correct this or should I chuck this up to typical Dell poor quality control??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI own an inspiron 1545 which works properly for the most part, except for a small, but annoying problem. Sometimes, when I type, instead of characters or numbers appearing on the screen, the computer would perform random tasks like try to open a file when I press O (and I am not holding down the Ctrl key), save my work when I press S (again, no Ctrl key), and change my typing language. It used to run on Vista, and was recently upgraded to 7, but the problem persists.
For example, typing the word 'frustration' would sometimes lead to this:
frustrati (Open dialogue box appears)
It's especially annoying when it changes the typing language mid-sentence.
I have only had this latop 3 months and it is missing keys when I type. It isnt that the laptop is slow and needs to catch up, it just misses letters and I have to keep going back over the text and filling in. It gets very frustrating putting passwords in and letters and numbers miss.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.
I have an issue with the keyboard on my new 15z. The cursor seems to have a mind of its own and jumps all over the place while I am composing emails and letters. This happens at random. View 15 Replies View RelatedWhen I put my X220T in tablet mode, the screen moves just enough to move the pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard to cause the cursor to move. I can't rest my hand on the screen without causing the cursor to move all the way accross the screen.
Am I missing a driver that would disable the nub when the screen is turned over it, or is this a design oversight? I've got the latest BIOS.
This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?
I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself.
While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.
I have a Dell XPS M1730 with 4GB Ram, 1TB in HD space. It is loaded with Windows 8.It works great except for one little thing. When I start typing I have to watch where the mouse is. If it is in the middle of the text I am typing, it will go there in the middle of me typing. This becomes very annoying.

To clarify it is the cursor and not the mouse pointer. When you click the mouse the cursor reappears in the right location so its not being moved by trackpad etc.
It appears that the tab/window open become de-active and the cursor disappears.
I own a Dell Precision M4800 Workstation running Windows 8.1 64-bit and the problem is that when I type text, no matter where (address bar, Office, iTunes, etc), and go to move my cursor immediately after, it takes about 3-4 seconds of me swiping on the touchpad to get it to move.

I have a g62 laptop with an external mouse and the cursor jumps all around when I am typing . I installed touchfreeze and unchecked "Hide Pointer While Typing" and neither worked. I also reviewed a suggestion to turn off "Touchpad" or something like that, and I can't even find this in my system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen typing in a document, in wordpad for instance, the cursor (and text entry point) will suddenly jump elsewhere. Typically up a couple of lines. Since it happens while typing, I end up corrupting the document.
Disabling the touch pad does not solve the problem.
I have this system running on Win 8.1; The touchpad is possessed. It moves and click on its own half the time. I've upgraded the drivers to the latest 4/01/14 release but to no avail. I've even restored the system but the result is the same.
Steps I've tried which took nearly 50+ hours to do:
1) restore, uninstall dell drivers, update to newest drivers;
2) restore, and update to newest drivers over existing drivers (included in the restore)
3) performed steps 1 & 2 with and without WOW64
I've been having to use the mouse to save me from this, however, the touchpad still takes over and moves the cursor on its own, though less frequent.
I was working on my laptop without the mains power and it completely went dead and refused to restart.
If I take the battery out and use on mains only the pc is fine.
Does this mean the battery is causing the start up fault and needs replacing?
We thought there was a hard drive issue on my laptop Dell sent replacement drive(It showed drive missing on diags). However, it appears the original issue was the drive was coming loose from the connector. Now anytime I set the laptop down or on the side the hard drive comes loose. We can not find any type of strap or screw that holds the hard drive in place. It is a model N5040. All screws were tightened and none appear to be missing.
