Dell Inspiron 15 3520 :: Cursor Jumping And Moving To Other Lines When Typing

Jan 12, 2013

I teach online and my new Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3520 is useless.  I cannot use it in online chat with students because now the cursor is moving to other lines of text and inserting my typing.  I uninstalled the touchpad driver as that seems to be something recommended here.  I tried to reinstall from the Dell website and it failed.  So now I not only have an awful computer but a useless one.  I'm regretting the Dell decision after just a week.

I have a g62 laptop with an external mouse and the cursor jumps all around when I am typing .  I installed touchfreeze and unchecked "Hide Pointer While Typing" and neither worked.  I also reviewed a suggestion to turn off "Touchpad" or something like that, and I can't even find this in my system.

Dell Inspiron 1440 :: Over Sensitive Touchpad - Cursor Jumping All Over The Place

Oct 2, 2011

My Inspiron 1440 laptop running on Windows 7; I have always had the problem with the cursor jumping all over the place and sometimes it just deleted the whole of document by itself.  So frustrated to use.  I just found that it's a known problem as it happens to many of the other models. What does Dell Support have to say about this?  It takes me forever to type this message as it keeps jumping around wherever the mouse pointer is.

Dell Inspiron 15R SE :: Cursor Jumps Around When Typing?

Apr 7, 2013

I have an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and while typing, the cursor frequently jumps around and will begin typing in a previously typed line.  This is extremely frustrating.  I am running Windows 8 and have looked to find where I can adjust the sensitivity of my touchpad but can't find it anywhere.  I've seen other posts for other computers that suggest uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling it. What I should do for my specific laptop to stop this from happening? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver.  If so, how do I do that for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 running Windows 8?   I'm also keeping my hands off the touchpad while typing but the cursor still moves.

Dell Inspiron 4100 :: Position Of Cursor Changes While Typing?

Sep 21, 2003

I have in inspiron 4100 for about 14 months. I have noticed that while typing, the cursor my move back  to a different position in the line, move to a previous line, or jump to another text box altogether.  It drives me crazy that when I type, I never know if there is some combination of keys or if I accidently touch something to make the cursor change position.

Is there by default some combination of keys that cause cursor movement. It has happened 4 times while typing this message.

Can this be turned off?

Dell Inspiron N5050 :: Touchpad Cursor Move To Other Parts Of Screen While In Middle Of Typing

How to correct this or should I chuck this up to typical Dell poor quality control??

Dell :: Jumping Cursor

May 23, 2009

I am having a problem with my 9 month old Dell XPS 1530. When I type for a while (a paragraph or so) the cursor will inadvertently “jump” from the end of the sentence where I am typing to somewhere in the middle of the paragraph. This is a real annoyance and at first I thought I might be hitting a key on the keyboard causing this. However, I gave the laptop to my father in law and had him use it for a short while. He experienced the same thing at least 6 times over the period of 10 minutes. I guess I’m going to have to call Dell,

Dell :: Laitude E6400: Jumping Cursor From Over Sensitive Touchpad

Mar 12, 2010

I am unable to type more than a couple of minutes without my cursor repositioning itself. The problem is inadvertent "contact" between my palm/lower thumb and the touchpad. I put contact in quotes because it's not even clear whether actual contact or mere proximity is the problem.

Brief background: I worked with Dell service and we agreed that the problem is an overly sensitive trackpad. We tried changing the TrackPad settings to no avail. They authorized a replacement trackpad which was installed by a service tech (along with a new mother board after he accidentally killed the computer while replacing the trackpad).

Result: Still no improvement.

FYI: My Touchpad settings are Touch Sensitivity 6/8; Tap to Click: On/Medium Speed; TouchCheck: Enabled/Minumum. Scroll: enabled

As you can from the above, I use the TrackPad for all my control (including selection). I have tried the most obvious solution -- turning up the TouchCheck -- and find that it renders the tap to select function useless. At this setting, it often takes 2-3 clicks to make a selection which is obviously unacceptable.

Dell Studio 1558 :: Cursor Jumping Erratically Or Freezing

Feb 20, 2013

My Dell Studio 1558 cursor is either jumping erratically or freezing. I have had the laptop for a few years but this problem only started a couple of weeks ago and has been getting worse.

When it freezes, I need to re-start the computer.

The jumping happens not just when I am typing, but even when using the touch pad.  It will move up and down and often close windows or click links.

I have checked and I have the most up to date device drivers.  I have also changed the sensitivity settings but to no avail.

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S Series :: Windows 8.1 - Cursor Jumping And Closing Programs

Jan 28, 2010

I have a brand new Thinkpad Yoga (20CD-CT01WW), running windows 8.1 64-bit, 8g RAM.  Intel Core i7-4600U @ 2.10Ghz / 2.70Ghz

When using any program in desktop mode (first noticed it on Chrome, then Quicken, but really applies to any use), the cursor will randomly jump across the screen, usually to the upper right, and then without clicking, will close the window I'm working on, often losing my work. Sometimes I'll get random right-click menus without clicking the mouse buttons. I am using the track-point primarily, so thinking it might be inadvertent contact with the touchpad, I disabled all touch-pad functionality, but the problem persists.

I ran Norton Internet security, AdAware, and Malwarebytes to look for viruses but didn't find any problems. Just ran Lenovo update, and downloaded the most recent Ultra-Nav Driver.  Now both touch-pad and track-point are using default settings, but the problem still persists.

I'm wondering if this a hardware or driver problem, or a windows 8.1 problem?

Dell XPS M1530 :: Cursor Jumps Around When Typing?

Jun 18, 2009

This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?

I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself.

While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.

Dell xps 15z ... I have an issue that the cursor disappears every few seconds whilst typing

To clarify it is the cursor and not the mouse pointer. When you click the mouse the cursor reappears in the right location so its not being moved by trackpad etc.

It appears that the tab/window open become de-active and the cursor disappears.

Dell Inspiron 17R :: N7110 Freezes In Hibernate

Feb 14, 2013

My laptop has frozen while in hibernate mode on two occassions in the past two months.  Though not a frequent occurance it is heart stopping when you have committed work to a customer and everything you need is on the laptop and not accessible.

The first time the machine was off.  Opened the lid and pressed the power button and nothing - did not even light up the button.  After no responses to any attempt to start the computer I removed the battery.  Upon reinserting the battery the machine started working and everything was fine.

The second time the machine was off but left with the lid open.  The power button was lit.  No matter what I did there was no response - frozen again.  Once again I removed the battery and upon reinserting the system again resumed working normally.

The only common thing is the laptop went into hibernate mode and would not respond to commands to wake up.

Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 :: Freezing And Now Not Booting

Dec 19, 2012

For the past week my laptop (which I've been using for only 3 months), running Windows 7, has been lagging. For Example, when I try to check my email using Live Mail, I click on a new email to read and it takes 20-30 seconds before the message loads.   NOW it is not booting up. I try to start the computer and it goes to a black screen & says "Windows failed to start.

A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" so I let it boot in the diagnostic mode (I think that is what it was called, the only other option other than normal mode, but did not say Safe Mode) and it just goes to the blue background but no button to log in, or any way to do anything that I can see.  I haven't loaded any new programs, I'm just running Quicken and Photoshop Elements, Mozilla, & Chrome and Norton anti-virus (courtesy of our Comcast internet service). Last night we tried to defrag the hard drive but that just sat at 2% for hours with no results.

Dell Inspiron N7110 :: No Display And No Beeps

Jan 28, 2015

Specs:
- i5
- 4GB
- cannot boot into Windows 7

I am working on a friend's laptop.  Originally, the laptop had a bad power adapter.  They heard a "popping" sound from what sounded like it came from the laptop itself.  Laptop went dead.  They bought a new power adapter but it won't even light up the LED's on the laptop itself.  The new adapter definitely works.

Of course it's used for taxes, home business info, etc.  So they ask me to look at it since I have 10+ years in IT and can do most PC repair stuff without batting an eye.  Well, here I am.  Laptop is not under warranty AND it's still being paid on as it was financed by Dell.

Here is what I did to troubleshoot:

1) Verified power adapter got power and works with another Dell laptop.
2) Verified laptop will not power on.
3) Removed bottom screws, plate, battery, etc.
4) Removed keyboard, screws, and top plate.
5) Found a lots of black markings on the motherboard, specifically at the circuitry near the battery port.

Determined it needed a motherboard and maybe other stuff but wasn't sure.  Bought a new motherboard with a 90 day warranty from CHINA on eBay.  Also bought a new keyboard since a key was missing and new fan since it was in rough shape.

The repair steps:

1) Removed old motherboard and took off heatsink and CPU.
2) Reseat CPU on new motherboard, added Arctic 5, Reinstalled heatsink.
3) Added new fan and buttoned everything up.  Triple checked connections
4) THERE IS LIFE!  Power supply now feeds power to the laptop as LED's are lit.
5) Power button is pressed, nothing on the video but the fan spins up and sounds healthy.  No caps lock LED.  Hooked up to a monitor DOES NOT WORK.  No beeping, nothing.  I figure maybe the CPU isn't working so I try reseating it.
6) Tear it all down again.  Reseat CPU, new thermal paste, reinstall heatsink, button it back up.  SAME THING.  This time it's not fully reassembled.

I tried doing the D + Power Button to test the LCD.  Looks like the screen does something, but it's dim and doesn't last long.  I can't see if it tries to do anything in detail, but I notice a little bit of light omitted from the side.  Tried discharging any static.

Normally, I would throw in another CPU or something, but I don't have spare parts for this laptop.  How can I continue to troubleshoot this?  Maybe a bad motherboard?

Dell Inspiron 17 N7110 :: Keeps Turning Off And Restarts Itself

Mar 6, 2013

My Dell Inspiron 17 N7110 Keeps shutting itself down, recycling its system (I am sure I am using the wrong terminology).  It will get to the dell logo screen and then go blank and restart itself.  I spoke with someone at Techzilla who said that this has been happening to other people with this model.  I removed the battery, tried hitting the F8, F11, F2 and F12 buttons.  When I hit the F12 button the screen went to a black screen with a blinking curser in the upper right hand corner.  This screen lasted about a second or two before it shuts down again and starts to recycle again.  I was told that it's a software problem (that I downloaded a virus) but if others are having the same problem then I think it's a dell model issue not a software issue.
