Dell Inspiron 5735 :: M731 Can't Get Airplane Mode To Turn Off
Apr 24, 2014
I have an Inspiron 5735 (M731) and can't get the Airplane Mode to turn off. Have spent several hours with tech support and reinstalled all the drivers. have even done a system restore (keeping my data file) sill the switch is grey'd out.Â
I read on another list that the problem may be caused by a physical switch on the unit. Dell has any REAL switch on their laptops to turn Airplane Mode On and Off ?

I'm runnng Windows 8 on a HP Pavillion g4. I was a playing a game with the wifi off, the lan wire connected, and the battery out, on high perfomance mode. The game crashed, I shut the laptop off by keeping to power button pressed. After starting it up again and trying to use wifi, I realized that pressing the wireless button would show "airplane mode off" on screen but it would not turn blue, nor would the wifi turn on.
Â
After this, I attempted a system restore, repairing existing drivers, checking BIOS, and a hard reset by taking out the battery, pressing on the button for 30 seconds, and then starting up again. None of these methods have worked so far.Â

My three week old X230 lost the ability to connect to my wifi router. I can pull up the airplane mode toggle with Fn+F5, but there is no response. I have done a factory reset, installed all Lenovo and Windows updates, uninstalled/reinstalled the intel wifi drivers. The lenovo utilities tells me the radio isn't turned on, but I can't figure out how to turn it on other than the usual ways, but they don't work. All is well in the hardware manager. I have reset the bios to default settings. I updated the bios to 2.06 when I first got the machine, and it ran fine. I can connect via a network cable.

I am have recently bought a dell inspiron 15 7000 series laptop. Its only been a month that I have been using it. Everything was fine but my airplane mode button (the button beside F12 and PrtScr which are working fine) stopped working. Every other buttons on the button row is fully functional so I fear its not a keyboard matrix problem? Â

I recently did a fresh install of windows 8 on my yoga and I've installed all the drivers on Lenovo's website. Most of the things are working except for the airplane mode button on the keyboard. Where I can find the driver for that?

The Airplane mode button has stopped working. Not sure when, but could be well after updating. Everything else works well.

Each time I try to turn off the WiFi when connected to the mains, the unit goes into airplane mode.
1] Any work around so the WiFi is turned off IMMEDIATELY and still remain with the W540 connected to the power supply (mains)??
There has to be a way to quickly turn off the WiFi without going into battery mode.
2] Similarly, is there a way to turn off the WiFi during boot up or before the system is fully booted.
I checked the power setting Lenovo software, but I find it very convoluted for such a simple workstation task.
As an answer to the original post: Â On long d/l's with slow lines, I have not found anyway to turn off the screen deliberately. Closing the lid does turn off the screen, but the screen turns on when the lid is opened. Â Having the screen on in an hotel room is a nuisance, similarly when leaving the system on while away, and the cleaning people see the unit is turned on. Â I gave up, and do not travel with the W540, as I have yet to find a workaround. I do manage with my other brand workstation.

So I've had my Dell Insprion N5110 for about a year now with little issue, but lately this really annoying problem has arose. Every time I just close my laptop (to put it in sleep mode, essentially) and then open it back up... it wont turn on. The power bottom stays completely lit up (not blinking, like it would in sleep/hibernation mode) but no matter what I press, it wont turn on. I end up having to completely shut it down every time.

I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â

My Dell XPS 12 has twice refused to turn on after going into Sleep mode. There is no indication of activity at all. This happens when I know that the battery is nearly fully charged, and continues even after plugging in the adapter. The adapter works just fine to charge the battery and the battery typically runs for at least 6 hours so I do not believe that or the battery are the problem.
The first time this happened, I continued to open/close the lid and try turning on the computer. After several hours, the computer turned on and worked just fine. I had already scheduled service with Dell before I got it to turn on and Dell's technician replaced the motherboard under the assumption that that was the problem.
The second time I again continued to open/close the lid and try the power switch after contacting Dell and scheduling service. The next day, after several tries, the computer started up and again is working normally. I am not allowing the computer to Sleep and am using Shut Down instead. Dell has ordered a replacement motherboard (yes, again), battery, and DC IN. I don't think that this is a power issue so doubt that any of those will fix the problem.Â
Does the XPS 12 have a "lid sensor"? Something that could fail to recognize that the lid is open and could be turned on?Â

I'm about two week in after purchasing a Dell XPS 13 (L322X)... I've begin noticing the keyboard backlighting fails turn on after resuming (opening the lid)Â from sleep mode. Depressing the FN with the backlight doesn't remedy only a system restart does. Could this be the result of flawed keyboard drives? If so how do I get the drivers?

After I put my laptop on sleep mode and shut the lid down, I always see the computer turn back on automatically after only a few minutes (I can hear the laptop working and the light turns green, although the monitor remains off).
Why is this so? The laptop also seems to turn off after a while it is turned back on from sleep mode.
I also notice my Z having a particular video error at times. That is, sometime, the laptop monitor turns black for a few seconds, turns back on at the highest brightness setting, and a error message pops up saying something about how it was unable to find a driver.

The fan, and I guess the system, does not turn off when going into sleep mode after the set 10 min of no activity but will if I go to sleep mode manually. I have already had to have a replacement fan after a year which I am sure was due to this issue.Â

Although great when you're on walkabout with your laptop, when I'm at home, laptop plugged in, I don't want my laptop to keep reverting to a login screen every few minutes.
Â
I'm on a Thinkpad E520 running Windows 64 bit Professional.    Here's what I tried so far without success:
Â
1) Control Panel --> Power Options --> I set everything to "max performance" and disabled display sleep-mode timers.
Â
2) Control Panel --> Lenovo - Camera-enhanced security --> I turned off camera recognition features and related timers.
Â
3) Control Pannel --> Lenovo Power Manager -->Â I turned off all timers.
Â
Turning off options in the above control panel areas does not seem to affect the auto-protect feature.   This auto lock down feature is driving me nuts at home, the only consolation being that the fingerprint scanner makes it a little easier to get back in once the laptop goes down.   It's like some terrible screen saver you hate that can't be turned off.
Â
How is this auto lockdown feature turned off?  Ideally there should be a big button available in the taskbar which you can push: on - off.  That way you can easily turn timer suites on and off with a single action.
Â
But as of yet, I can't find anything in the control panel or taskbar that turns off this auto lock down feature.  Â

So, I was bored and going through my XPS M1330 manual. Then I find this:
Altitude (maximum):
Operating –15.2 to 3048 m (–50 to 10,000 ft)
Storage –15.2 to 10,668 m (–50 to 35,000 ft)
Does this mean we can't use the notebook while in-flight above 10,000 Feet? Don't commercial flights fly at about 30,000 feet?

I've searched for some answers to this, but have been unsuccessful...
I've got a Dell Precision M6400, and would like to be able to use it on an upcoming trans-Pacific flight.
Does anyone have experience with an airplane adaptor which would work with the M6400?

I have an Acer 5735 laptop that I have used to access the internet wirelessly in the past on other networks without issue. I recently bought a TRENDnet TEW-637AP and plugged it into the back of my wireless router. I am getting a good signal and I am connecting to the network according to Vista but I cannot get it to load a web page to save my life. This hasn't been an issue in the past on other networks.

I was about to purchase a 5735 before the 5738 came out. Acer call it to be a new laptop but the specs are identical, I've checked the acer site and its all the same other than the bio-security. Can anyone else explain the differences? Is the 5738 a better chassis etc because I can't tell why the 5738 is more expensive other than blu-ray etc, which my model won't have.
Both are Centrino 2 laptops as well.
Should I just go with the 5735. Anyone have any good experiences of using the 5735 laptop? Strong, quick and reliable?
I've got an offer to buy a 5738 with a 250HD for £419 and a 5735 with a 500HD for £440.
Other than the hard drive and the fact that the 5738 is newer, which would you go for?

These were not answered by Acer tech soupport [not a typo or misspelling]. Each was sent in as a separate question and returned marked "closed".
Where are the drivers for Vista-to-Win 7 upgrade?
What is the recommended procedure for 1?
Should the C/D partition be preserved after upgrade?
If 3 is "yes", which backup program should be used thereafter: Acer, MS, or both?
What is the matrix key for the 2 LEDs on the left top edge (see pic)?
(this should be 6.) Can the card reader be upgraded to read SDHC memory cards?
(this should be 7.) Where is the Acer knowledge base reference library for this notebook?
(this should be 8.) Where is the Acer-sponsored user forum for Acer computers?

I just bought a new Acer 5735-4624 aspire model. It comes with Vista and of course I'm looking to move back to Xp. Only thing is I cant find any support drivers anywhere. Even on the Acer site--the friggin model is not even listed. I know it's new and all---but!
I have an e-mail in to Acer support but I already know about their famous support woes.
Anyone have an idea so I can move to little ol' XP?
Any drivers perhaps from other models that might be compatiable?

i just got this notebook listed on the title right? Mostly everything works perfectly.
Except apparently i have to update my Drivers for the Intel(R) GMA Driver for Mobile. So i look at the Intel website no drivers found, or ones that needed updates..
So Ive been told that in some cases for laptops you must go to the computer manufacturers website and find the drivers there, this website being Acer. But it seems there is no trace for Aspire 5735-4624 Drivers ANYWHERE. I think the laptop is fairly new but there has to be SOME drivers somewhere right? I am not sure if this is a problem for any other people out there, or i am just not looking hard enough?

I've recently posted a question here Total Memory in task manager incorrect after upgrade to 4gb Aspire 5735 where I received some great help. However I've done a bit more research and I'm starting to fear my notebook may be limited to 3gb by the bios/chipset for some reason. I have just upgraded it from 3gb to 4gb. The bios shows 4gb as the installed amount but memtest in dos mode only shows 3000mb total as does windows task manager.
So it appears the notebook detects the 4gb installed ram but only allocated 3gb.
My question is does anyone know if acer has limited this notebook to 3gb total and if there are any suggestions on getting around this limit?
