Jun 5, 2014I'm runnng Windows 8 on a HP Pavillion g4. I was a playing a game with the wifi off, the lan wire connected, and the battery out, on high perfomance mode. The game crashed, I shut the laptop off by keeping to power button pressed. After starting it up again and trying to use wifi, I realized that pressing the wireless button would show "airplane mode off" on screen but it would not turn blue, nor would the wifi turn on.

After this, I attempted a system restore, repairing existing drivers, checking BIOS, and a hard reset by taking out the battery, pressing on the button for 30 seconds, and then starting up again. None of these methods have worked so far.Â

Dec 28, 2012My three week old X230 lost the ability to connect to my wifi router. I can pull up the airplane mode toggle with Fn+F5, but there is no response. I have done a factory reset, installed all Lenovo and Windows updates, uninstalled/reinstalled the intel wifi drivers. The lenovo utilities tells me the radio isn't turned on, but I can't figure out how to turn it on other than the usual ways, but they don't work. All is well in the hardware manager. I have reset the bios to default settings. I updated the bios to 2.06 when I first got the machine, and it ran fine. I can connect via a network cable.

Feb 24, 2014Each time I try to turn off the WiFi when connected to the mains, the unit goes into airplane mode.
1] Any work around so the WiFi is turned off IMMEDIATELY and still remain with the W540 connected to the power supply (mains)??
There has to be a way to quickly turn off the WiFi without going into battery mode.
2] Similarly, is there a way to turn off the WiFi during boot up or before the system is fully booted.
I checked the power setting Lenovo software, but I find it very convoluted for such a simple workstation task.
As an answer to the original post: Â On long d/l's with slow lines, I have not found anyway to turn off the screen deliberately. Closing the lid does turn off the screen, but the screen turns on when the lid is opened. Â Having the screen on in an hotel room is a nuisance, similarly when leaving the system on while away, and the cleaning people see the unit is turned on. Â I gave up, and do not travel with the W540, as I have yet to find a workaround. I do manage with my other brand workstation.

Feb 14, 2013I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â

Apr 4, 2009I've noticed my laptop has been running quite hot recently so I downloaded a thing called Speedfan, which tells me my CPU is running at 70-80 degrees C. Isn't this really, REALLY hot for a laptop? I really don't want it to overheat and break
I first noticed it and found that it was maxing out at 82 degrees, and the movie I was watching was getting jumpy. I was using WMP, MSN, Internet explorer for basic browsing, with Vuze running in the background. The most I ever use. This is my specification:

4GB RAM DDR2
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM70 (2.0GHZ/1MB)
320GB HDD
Shouldn't this laptop be able to handle these tasks without getting so hot?

Apr 6, 2009I got an Acer 5535 laptop that comes with Vista, and none of the official acer websites have windows XP drivers. To make the switch myself I changed the SATA setting AHCI to IDE (otherwise XP won't work), installed XP and used the drivers from: [url]
Drivers and everything worked fine but when i went to install World of Warcraft it said my laptop doesnt meet the minimum requirements, I then right clicked My Computer -> properties, and noticed it says I have 1Ghz speed and 1.75 RAM when it should be 2GHZ and 2GB RAM.
So far i noticed no decrease in speed but would this ruin my laptop this way, and why has the numbers of my computer speed changed? I'll switch back to Vista if it means keeping my laptop running fine, but i prefer XP if possible.

Nov 29, 2008I bought Acer Aspire 5535. I got Resource dvd with it, and on that dvd are drivers for Windows Xp, Vista 64 and Vista 32.
When I started him for the first time and try Alt + F10 nothing happens, so I decided to format HDD and put XP on it. I changed AHCI in bios (to IDE) and formated the HDD with Windows Xp. Installation of Windows Xp went just fine. It works fine and everything is ok.
I Only thing I don't have on it is EmPowering. I tried to find it on Acer website, but no way

Does this mean we can't use the notebook while in-flight above 10,000 Feet? Don't commercial flights fly at about 30,000 feet?

Acer :: Aspire 5535 XP Load (hardware Error)
Mar 13, 2009I just bought an Aspire 5535 and it came with Vista Home Premium. I want to get rid of vista and load XP on it. Problem is I keep getting a hardware error when trying to load XP. I went as far as pulling the HD out of the notebook and hooking it up to my desk top to reformat it, and try it in the notebook at that point, same problem, blue screen f death when it tries to start the windows installation. I then take it out of the note book again and partially load XP up on it from my desktop till the first reboot prompt, re-install it back into the notebook, only to still have the same problem. Is there some hardware issue that needs to be over come here or am I missing something obvious? Or even still, will XP even work on this notebook?

Nov 29, 2014The above series of processors apparently have an "Overdrive" mode at that will allow the cores to jump to 2.4ghz from their normal working clock speed of 1.8ghz. However, there seems to be no way to use it or access it. The clock speed will not move above 1.8ghz no matter how much demand I put on the system. There are no obvious (or unobvious) BIOS settings that even reference AMD Overdrive. I'd like to be able to utilize the extra power, but I can't seem to find it. I'm running Linux on this machine, though I assumed that Overdrive would have been handled at the BIOS level.

Oct 30, 2014I have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
Dell Inspiron N4010 :: Can't Get To Boot In Safe Mode
Mar 8, 2013I start the laptop and I get the black screen with the Dell logo on it. There is a progress bar at the bottom that moves across to the right as the boot up progresses. In the bottom right corner, it shows the option of hitting F2 for Set Up or F12 for Boot Menu. I can access both of these menus. It then progresses to a screen with the Windows logo with the words "Resuming Windows" underneath. Once that completes, I get a black screen!
I was told that I should boot up the laptop in safe mode by hitting F8.....Â
I can't seem to get this to work.

Jul 27, 2014I bought new Inspiron 11 3147 (2 in 1 model). Â When "SATA Operation" is set to AHCI laptop can't detect SSD (Intel 530) in Windows 8.1 setup.
When I change "SATA Operation"Â to ATA Windows 8.1 can detect SSD in setup without any problem.
I think this is BIOS error. There will be any update? I can't use my SSD now.

Feb 21, 2013I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 that unfortunately shuts down on its own or fails to respond when it goes to sleep mode. This doesn't happen every time it goes to sleep but it still happens quite frequently. When it shuts down on it's own, it displays a "Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly" message once it is turned back on. It very rarely displayed a Blue Screen of Death that mentioned something about drivers but this hasn't popped up in a while.Â
I've been in contact with a Dell representative for about a week now, having him call me every day to remote control my laptop and try something new. He updated all of the drivers he could find (I previously did this but he decided to go ahead and re-download them anyways), updated the BIOS (again, tried that already on my own), ran all sorts of diagnostic tools (the only one that he ran that I hadn't already run was the WinDbg X86 program), changed sleep settings (tried that on my own too), had me scan the entire computer for about 3 hours to check for hardware issues (It was one of the options under the F12 key when the computer first boots up and it came up clean), and yesterday he set up a new user account and had me use that for a day to see if the problems were linked to my profile (didn't even think about that one). It's actually caused the problem to occur more frequently to be quite honest. Today was especially bad, as the computer crashed 9 times and ended up deleting the newly created profile on its own in an attempt to repair itself.
