Dell Inspiron 7520 :: Installing Ubuntu 12.10 In Separate Partition With Windows 8
Feb 15, 2013
The UEFI thing screwed my head a bit while trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in Dell 7520, I made separate partition in Windows 8, installed Ubuntu via liveUSB it went well, but Ubuntu didn't load. So, I hit the Ubuntu install again, it asked me to erase previous Ubuntu, I said yes, now the Ubuntu 12.10 works perfectly.
I used boot-repair to repair the GRUB as suggested in some answers in askubuntu, and when I reboot, there was no option for windows 8. I booted to Ubuntu to check the Ubuntu have used whole 1 TB (total space). That means I deleted windows ? If so, any way to get the setup back? I don't have repair disk, nor DVD. Win8 came pre-installed.
I use Windows for windows mobile app development and Ubuntu for Normal use.
This is my new laptop, just purchased today, but this secure bios thing screwed all the fun of using multiple OS.
how many people with Macs actually run windows on their machine? If so, what is the best way of doing it at this point of time. Also, do you partition the internal hdd into mac/windows or have a separate HDD and boot it off of that?
My dell laptop is dell inspiron 14R with preinstalled windows 8.I want to install ubuntu 10.04 side by side. I switch to legacy boot option too.But could not install it through disk since during partition table creation, it is not showing any os that is preinstalled. Its imp for me to install ubuntu.
I would like to add a mSATA card to my system to be able to use IRST.
I am skeptic because I have read online that systems which were not shipped with 32 GB mSATA card, doesn't have mSATA port for later installation.
When I purchased the system at that time dell had the option for adding 32 GB mSATA card in the customization section, but now dell has removed the whole customization section from the website. And in the pre-configured models, there is no option for mSATA card.
I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56-112SA Notebook which has WIndows 7 Home Edition OS. I would like very much to install Ubuntu 12.04 OS on its own partition to dual boot with Windows. However, my understanding is that the Notebook has 4 primary partitions on the HDD that are already used and therefore no more partitions can be made. I can shrink the 'C' drive partition to make space but I understand I also have to free up a whole partition. I know I can install Ubuntu 'Inside' Windows but I would rather not.
Some contributors say one can safely delete HP-Tools to provide a partition for Ubuntu but others advise not to because HP-Tools contains a BIOS recovery kit which, they say, is essential.
I have HP Pavilion-g6 1301tx operating system Windows 7 Home Basic 64Bit consist of recovery partition so i want to install windows 8 in my pc so can i format the c drive and install it or i can upgrade the c drive
im a m1730 user interested in installing Ubuntu on my machine. Ive gone through various Windows OS setups, dual boot and what not, and would like to try Ubuntu.
I downloaded the Live Cd, Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, and when i boot from it, no matter which option i try (Try Ubuntu, Install Ubuntu, Check Cd, etc), i get a BusyBox command prompt which loops some I/o error. No graphical user interface for installing comes up
I am using "Inspiron 15R Notebook (Inspiron 7520), Windows 8, 64-bit, English" I tried partioning the hard drive, unfortunately the OS corrupted and not it throws a boot error.
I have a Win 7 bootable USB. I wanted to boot using USB and install Win 7 rather than Win8. But in the boot options I am not getting options boot from USB.
I recently brought a new Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520. I'm very satisfied with this Laptop. But,it has Windows 7 Home Premium Pre-Installed and I want to upgrade it to Genuine Windows 8 64 Bit.
I was installing ubuntu14.04 alongside windows 8 on my Y510P . In the option where it asks whether to install a fresh copy or install it alongside, i accidentally selected install a fresh copy and clicked on next.
After realizing my mistake, I cancelled the installation.
But after that my pc wont boot.Everything was gone from my hard disk below is the screenshot from disk manager.

I am having the recovery backup from one key recovery but i dont know how to use it.
Recently, I have setup windows 8 pro on my inspiron 7520 SE but I found it sucks so I've decided to get my windows 7 back.Once tapping the F8 button to access the boot menu as usual, Nothing appears so I searched in the internet for a solution but with no use.Now I am getting trouble to get my windows back and I just need to know how to get to the boot menu and why isn't the F8 key working as it used to ?
I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 just a few days back. Since the upgrade, I'm not able to access any of my USB pendrives and flashdrives after plugging them in the hub. The oc just does not read them. The light on pen drives glows for 1 second and then goes off.
Inspiron 15R SE 7520..When I attempt to start my laptop it goes to the Dell logo screen and will not boot Windows 8. I've had the computer less than a month and if I have to restore the system completely it will not cause much of a problem.
Just brought home a Dell Inspiron 15 from Best Buy tonight. While going through Windows Explorer and trying to figure out the goofy "Libraries" thing for Windows 7, I noticed that my hard drive is partitioned like so:
OS (C): 38.4GB free of 58.5GB Local Disk (D): 186Gb free of 229GB
Now I am always used to everything being on 'C'. When I tried to copy all my stuff over from my previous Dell 1420, it wouldn't all copy over to any of the libraries or my "user" folder (Erin) since I didn't have enough space. So despite Windows 7 setting up all these nifty folders in my "Erin" folder (C:/Users), I can't fit all my stuff there.
Is Dell partitioning their hard-drives differently? Am I nuts for thinking mine is set up weird?
I recently purchased an Inspiron 1318 from Best Buy and while I love it so far, trying to play a few games has been an awful experience. Vista is pretty much useless when it comes to older games, even some games that were released about a year ago. What I would like to do is to dual boot into an XP partition just for playing games. I think my biggest problem will be finding drivers for this notebook that will work on xp. Also, I've never made a dual boot system before, though I have done plenty of installs and reformats.
I bought a Dell Inspiron N5110 last year. I created two more partitions on my hard drive. Now I want to restore my windows to factory settings, but I cannot go through the restore process.
I am quite sure that the restore partition is physically on the hard drive, but maybe because of creating new partition it cannot find the drive, or the restore program looks to wrong partition. How can I recover with the current conditions.
I got it with Vista, I later downgraded to XP using the info in this thread: Installing Windows XP on Dell Inspiron 1520
I searched for Windows 7 on this board and didnt find anything...
So now I ask, how do I install Windows 7 on my laptop? For XP I had to download several drivers, im assuming I need to do the same for Windows 7 but are those drivers out yet?
I recently bought a G62-a31so notebook and it came with windows 7 x64, right from the start it couldn't start most programs, they would simply crash, I got the idea that I would install windows vista on it, which has worked well with my previous PCs, I considered creating recovery disks beforehand, but I couldn't be bothered when I found out it required 4! dvd-s and it says in your manual that I can recover my system at any time from the partition. So I formatted the partition that had windows 7 on it before and installed vista on it, then I found out that you have no vista drivers for this notebook, I tried to regain status quo by recovering from the partition, pressed esc on startup and then f11 in the startup menu, but it simply booted vista.
I would like to know how I could restore my system to factory settings now?
My hard drive failed on my Inspiron 14z laptop. I ordered an exact replacement and installed it. The computer was purchased 2 1/2 years ago, and I downloaded the operating system on 4 DVDs per Dell instructions. After installing the new hard drive, I am downloading the 1st DVD. I come to a page that asks me to either click on "Restore my computer" or "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions". I click on Factory Recovery, hit next, and a new page comes up saying this application will recover your drive to the factory condition. "Do you confirm?" I click "yes", hit next, and I get yellow triangle with an explanation mark inside and it says "Your hard drive size is not supported for this process. Please use a hard drive at least GB in size.
