If not then what is the procedure to shift OS files to the SSD.

Jan 1, 2015My Dell Inspiron 5423 laptop does not power on normally; when I press the power button, nothing happens (no lights, no sound). As a result, I have to press the Embedded Controller reset button at the bottom of my laptop for the power button to work. I don't want to have to undergo this procedure every time I turn on my laptop.

Dec 7, 2014Last night I closed my Dell Inspiron 14z - 1523 when it was almost out of power. Later that night I was not able to turn it on again. Power indicator on the AC adapter is on, but when I do the AC adapter in my laptop the power indicator of my laptop stays off (when plugged in the power indicator of the AC adapter is a little less strong four half a second or so).
I read some topics on this forum and discovered the reset button at the back of the laptop. I tried this option, hope it would solve the issue, but the issue remain...

How can i disassembly the laptop ? I'm stuck with a part near USB port on the left.

Dell Inspiron 5423 :: Screen Distorted Almost On Every Boot Up
Dec 24, 2014I have 5423 i3 and recently I started having a problem with which was that on almost every boot the screen would be distorted I.e vertical and horizontal lines would appear rainbow like distorted colours and although anything was barely visible I could make out that the screen ws divided into these four grids like appearance each acting like a separate unit by itself AND along with this the laptop would make 8 beeps on boot until window load screen would appear.
When this problem first started I solved it by holding the laptop screen at an angle then powering it on or sometimes pressing the power button and closing the lid and after I would hear win startup sound I would open it and it would work fine, but now since a day or two ive tried every method amd nothing works...

Jun 27, 201330 minutes ago, it was working perfectly with no issue. I turned it off and after 1 hour I tried to turned on by pressing the power button but it is not working. No lambs no sounds nothing. It is just like a rock.

Sep 24, 2008I recently purchased an Inspiron 1318 from Best Buy and while I love it so far, trying to play a few games has been an awful experience. Vista is pretty much useless when it comes to older games, even some games that were released about a year ago. What I would like to do is to dual boot into an XP partition just for playing games. I think my biggest problem will be finding drivers for this notebook that will work on xp. Also, I've never made a dual boot system before, though I have done plenty of installs and reformats.

Dec 27, 2012I just bought an Inspiron 5423 laptop which is an Ultrabook. I love everything about this laptop except that a grinding noise comes from the fan even under very regular operations. It comes and go every 10 minutes and last for 30 seconds. Even my wife can hear it from the other side of the room. I'm not sure if something is wrong with this brand new laptop or it is the regular noise for all the Ultrabooks of such brand. It's really annoying and I'm thinking to return it.

Jan 20, 2013Been working on my laptop all weekend and took an hour break came back and when the laptop tried to boot up got stuck on the dell screen. The screen it is stuck on has the dell emblem in the middle and has inspiron under that and a progress bar that is completely empty. In the bottom left corner is has F2 Setup and below that has F12 Boot Options.
I have tried to turn it on and press F2 all that happens is the F2 becomes highlighted but nothing seems to happen. I can do the same for the F12. I have tried booting it while plugged into wall and when it's not doesn't seem to change anything. I have left it on for a while now and every few minutes the screen goes blank and makes a few clicking noises and a few of the lights on the top corner of bottom part of laptop flash. It then just gets stuck in the same frozen screen.
The laptop has a weeks worth of very important data I need on it....
Dell Inspiron 14z 5423 :: Slow Wireless Link Speed?
Jan 21, 2013First of all I have a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen - will be taking this up with Dell tommorrow as its really off putting especially on brand new laptop.
My second issue is with wireless - did have problems initially with wireless disconnects and genrally slow speeds
Im not entirely sure but removing Mcafee seemed to work with the disconnects at least - load of rubbish imo
Now my only other major issue is with wireless speeds on the 1703 card
I seem to max out at about 45mb on all broadband speed tests - while on another laptop I get the full speeds of 80mb on the same server at the same location
Im only getting a link speed of 72Mbps in the networking tab of Task Manager and this does seem rather slow - the other laptop gets 450Mbps (better wireless card - to go with my Asus N66U Router)
Anyway my thought process is that the 1703 wireless card is not up to much - I understand that the 1703 card is wireless and bluetooth - with I think 1 antenna for bluetooth and one for wireless connected to the wireless card.
Now I dont use bluetooth much if at all - so does it make sense to buy just a wireless card and connect the two antennas to the card and therefore losing bluetooth connectivity but gaining better wireless connection
I think I have an Intel Centrino WiFi Ultimate N 6300 in the other laptop

Feb 6, 2013Just bought this laptop. Upon booting up got a Rapid Start error Message. Uninstalled the Rapid Start Driver and downloaded the latest Rapid Start Intel driver from Dell Downloads. Upon trying to install it, I get the following message:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirments for installing this software"
Intel Rapid Storage is working. I checked the BIOS and Intel Rapid Response is enabled.

Dell Inspiron 5423 14z :: Reboot / Restart But Will Not Shut Down / Sleep Or Hibernate
Nov 9, 2014I have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

Nov 2, 2014My hard drive failed on my Inspiron 14z laptop. I ordered an exact replacement and installed it. The computer was purchased 2 1/2 years ago, and I downloaded the operating system on 4 DVDs per Dell instructions. After installing the new hard drive, I am downloading the 1st DVD. I come to a page that asks me to either click on "Restore my computer" or "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions". I click on Factory Recovery, hit next, and a new page comes up saying this application will recover your drive to the factory condition. "Do you confirm?" I click "yes", hit next, and I get yellow triangle with an explanation mark inside and it says "Your hard drive size is not supported for this process. Please use a hard drive at least GB in size.

Apr 14, 2013My husband came home from work saying his laptop doesn't work, being the naturally skeptical wife, I tried to boot it up, thinking I'll f10 (Well, f12 - turns out) the problem away. If that worked, we wouldn't be here. Anyway. 9_9
The laptop turns on without a problem, and presents me with the Dell loading screen. The loading bar is present, but nothing is actually 'loading'. There are two options in the lower right hand corner, "F2 - Setup" and "F12 Boot Options". If I turn the laptop on and press one of these buttons really quick (within a second), then that option will be highlighted, but nothing more occurs. I've tried this for both F2 and F12.
I've tried:
-Boot Options - fails to load the options screen
-Setup - fails to load the setup screen
-Turning the power off and holding the button down.
-PSA ... Pre-startup Analytics...? Didn't work. Spent 5 minutes tapping F12 once a second.
-All of the above with and without the AC adapter in.
-Taking the battery out (Oi, that was fun.) and plugging it back in.
None of these yielded different results.
Dell Inspiron 5233 :: Installing Windows 7 - No Drive Found
Dec 15, 2014I'm new to having Dell computers. Today I received a Dell Inspiron 15z 5233 laptop with windows 8 on it. It has a 32 GB SSD and 500 GB hard drive. I can not see the SSD drive in the windows file explorer, nor do I see it in the Disk Management utility from the Control Panel. However, I do see it in the Device Manager as an SSD and another Hard Drive in the Disk Drive section. The SSD driver is up to date. I have not installed any drivers on the computer except for the Serial ATA CY1HK_WN_12.8.0.1016_A03. That was only after I tried to install windows 7 and it said "No Drive Found" when I tried to select a drive to install on.
I googled what could be the problem and saw that it could be a driver issue with the SATA connection. So I got that driver (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) and the SK Hynix Solid State Drive Firmware update. These are the most current on Dells website. This is an older computer, says late 2012. It has an i5 Processor. The SSD is SSDPM830 mSATA in the device manager. Storage Controller: Intel Mobile Express Chipset RAID SATA controller. When I try to save a file, I do not see an SSD drive, there is only one drive, the C: drive which is the 500 GB disk drive. I hope I have supplied enough information to understand the problem.
So I put the drivers on a USB and tried to install windows 7 again, and it still shows No Drive Found, and when I tried to browse for the drivers, they do not appear on the USB. It will show all the folders on the USB, but I can not open the folder they are in. So I put them directly on the USB outside of any folders, and they still do not show up. Also, I changed it to Legacy mode, safe mode off for the boot settings.
I assumed I did not have to install any drivers on windows 8, because it detects everything automatically now days. Should I go ahead and install some drivers on windows 8?

Mar 27, 2013it's just stuck there, the blue progress bar doesn't show up, I tried pressing f8 but nothing appears. I have also tried draining the battery and recharging then rebooting but nothing happened. It is completely unresponsive. It used to work just fine, just last night I've been playing games and it was working smoothly. But when I woke up and booted up my laptop, nothing was working. By the way, what's the small button underneath the laptop, I think it is the master reset button, because my brother was thinking of pressing it.

Feb 15, 2013The UEFI thing screwed my head a bit while trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in Dell 7520, I made separate partition in Windows 8, installed Ubuntu via liveUSB it went well, but Ubuntu didn't load. So, I hit the Ubuntu install again, it asked me to erase previous Ubuntu, I said yes, now the Ubuntu 12.10 works perfectly.
I used boot-repair to repair the GRUB as suggested in some answers in askubuntu, and when I reboot, there was no option for windows 8. I booted to Ubuntu to check the Ubuntu have used whole 1 TB (total space). That means I deleted windows ? If so, any way to get the setup back? I don't have repair disk, nor DVD. Win8 came pre-installed.
I use Windows for windows mobile app development and Ubuntu for Normal use.
This is my new laptop, just purchased today, but this secure bios thing screwed all the fun of using multiple OS.
Anyways, how can I get back the Windows 8?
Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series :: Cursor Invisible When Installing Windows 8
Jan 18, 2015I just brought dell inspiron 15 3000 series laptop with Ubuntu and installed windows 8.
For some reasons it does not show mouse cursor. during installation it doesn't show cursor and after installation it is not showing cursor at all.
I installed dell touch pad drivers with all other important chipset drivers but still cursor disappear.
Strange thing is, when i plugin external mouse then cursor appears and when i remove external mouse then again cursor disappear magically.
