View 3 Replies View RelatedThe UEFI thing screwed my head a bit while trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in Dell 7520, I made separate partition in Windows 8, installed Ubuntu via liveUSB it went well, but Ubuntu didn't load. So, I hit the Ubuntu install again, it asked me to erase previous Ubuntu, I said yes, now the Ubuntu 12.10 works perfectly.
I used boot-repair to repair the GRUB as suggested in some answers in askubuntu, and when I reboot, there was no option for windows 8. I booted to Ubuntu to check the Ubuntu have used whole 1 TB (total space). That means I deleted windows ? If so, any way to get the setup back? I don't have repair disk, nor DVD. Win8 came pre-installed.
I use Windows for windows mobile app development and Ubuntu for Normal use.
This is my new laptop, just purchased today, but this secure bios thing screwed all the fun of using multiple OS.
Anyways, how can I get back the Windows 8?

I wanna create some partition on it ... how can i do that as when i wanna reinstall the recovery on it in the future , the created drives I've made don't change in default factory form ? can I use this software : paragon hard disk manager 2008, if i use this software , will the partition be remained on my laptop when i use recovery DVD ?
I have the Precision M6500, and before the Windows 7 partition there are two smaller partitions that I don't want or need. I will install from the DVD if I need to reinstall it and I use Acronis to do full image backups.
So I started up with changing the active partition from one of those recovery partitions. Suddenly I get the "BOOTMGR missing" pain in the a$$. No problem to fix it of course, I use a Linux Partition Manager boot CD for that.
But the problem is that if it reacts that badly to that change (I even tried the original Windows 7 DVD to startup repair, fixboot and fixmbr, but it didn't help),
then I fear that removing those partitions all together will really mess things up. Can I force the Windows 7 bootmanager over to the OS partition, or is this some custom Dell stuff that means that I would have to reinstall 7 totally to get it fixed?
I have an Inspiron 15R Model 5010-3228Â
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem
I was able to run diags from F12 at startup - everything seemed to pass but it ended with a message indicating there was no recovery partition.
I have no original media to reinstall.
The laptop was a gift from my father-in-law in Poland. As a result Dell would not provide service. Warranty is now expired.Â
I may have destroyed the recovery partition when I used EaseUS Partition Master to split the C: partition into two partitions. How to recover the partitions necessary for recovery? Â When I do to Advanced Startup, I do not get a 'Troubleshoot' option.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell Inspiron N5110 last year. I created two more partitions on my hard drive. Now I want to restore my windows to factory settings, but I cannot go through the restore process.
I am quite sure that the restore partition is physically on the hard drive, but maybe because of creating new partition it cannot find the drive, or the restore program looks to wrong partition. How can I recover with the current conditions.
Have an Acer Aspire MA52 with W8.1 .... How to recover the Recovery partition ....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have new T430s with Windows 8 on it (preinstalled by Lenovo). Everything is fine except they cut a huge chunk of my expensive SSD hard drive for so called "recovery partition". So now I have 2 tasks to accomplish:
Â
1. Create recovery media on DVDs;
2. Remove that recovery partition from my HD and attach the space to main partition.
Â
On Windows 7 I would use "Rescue and Recovery 4.5" tool from Lenovo to do that. But it looks like the tool is not available for Windows 8. When (if) it will be available? Or any other way to accomplish the above tasks?
I want to get the Z, but sony doesn't provide the vista dvd, so i need to use the recovery partition.
however, i want to use my own hard drive, so is there a way to "recover" the partition onto my other hard drive
I've been having problems with my battery and so downloaded and installed the latest version of the Hardware Diagnostics Tool (sp63599). I then followed the HP instructions for checking the battery (turn off computer; power on and the ESC to enter System Diagnostics. My notebook shuts down almost immediately!
Â
So I figured I'd uninstall this new Tool, but it wasn't listed in Programs in control Panel, nor in All Programs. I did find the new partition it created and deleted those files but the partition remains and I don't it too.

I have a VGN-FZ240E that has some issues. I am sure that previous virus removal efforts have damaged my operating system beyond reasonable repair. The only real solution I believe is to reinstall Vista. 2 Problems, 1 I do not have the recovery dvds, 2 the system will not me make a recovery set. I can see a recovery partition on the disk when I ran Easues Partition Manager. In fact, I copied the recovery partition to a logical drive I created on the hard disk. So now I can see it in explorer, and browse it.
I am wondering if I copy the recovery partition to a new hard drive can I then start the new drive as a boot device and reinstall Vista from it ? If I can then my plan would be to do the transfer files and settings from original drive to get me back up and running correctly. This would also archive all my stuff in case of an unfortunate mishap. I understand I will need to reinstall apps and such I just do not want to have to dish out the extra $30 for the disks. And I have already combed this machine and cannot locate the WUA files.
Been nosing around the forum to try to find the answer before asking, but i really couldn't find any, so here goes!
I just got a new 7200rpm 320gb from WD to replace my old drive . I replaced it, boot the laptop (VGN-CR31S) as usual,
and put the first recovery DVD in the tray. Unfortunately, when it gets to the options menu,
I can't get it to install, it keeps asking for the right volume or cd/dvd. I thought the recovery dvds would be able to install everything from scratch ..
I was installing Linux and by mistake I wiped out the entire disk inclusing the recovery partition with windows 8 installation stuff !! Do you know if it there is any way to get it back, downlading it from somewhere and installing ? I searched on the Lenovo website but didn't find any clue....

I know i needed to disable something in bios but this laptop's bios isn't very detailed , i tried disabling the Legacy boot and now the laptop doesn't boot up anymore, not even in bios. When i power it on all i get is a black screen and the Caps lock blinks twice.

I tried pressing the windows key+B+ power button for one second while the laptop is shut down but it didn't do anything.
I have bought Dell Vostro 5460 come with Windows 8, when i bought. it don't have preinstall DVD but it have Windows 8 sticker on my laptop, and at first i not create a system image and system repair disk, and my friend installed windows 7 on my machine and format all hard disk. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Acer Aspire 5742G notebook and I'm having problems installing the Windows 7 OS on my new SSD hard drive (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is failing and making blue screens all the time...)For the factory restore, I'm using restore discs. I burned the discs few years back when the laptop insisted me of doing it (by using eRecovery or something, 3 dvds total).
Â
The computer tries to install the OS with the dvds (asks to insert a dvd and then press a key). The actual problem is that the installer is just going in loops, restarting and eventually freezing in the end.. Reboot -> Acer logo -> Windows is loading files... -> Starting windows -> Reboot -> etc. That kept going for more than a hour (on the first dvd!) and suddenly it just froze on the "starting windows" screen.. So I had to reboot and star over again.I can still use my old formatted HDD, should I make new set of recovery discs or use an USB drive?
I’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).
I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.
Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.
As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.
Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .
I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.
