Jan 26, 2009Is this a problem? A friend told me that it indicates the screen is dying. Is that so?

I got my Dell M6400 in about 10 days ago and immediately noticed a bluish/purplish tint in the grays. I compared it to my other two laptops and several desktops and it is definitely off. I connected my desktop monitor to the video out on the M6400 and it looks like it is suppose to.
After trying about everything possible, I contacted support and they immediately sent someone out to replace the LCD. The tech noticed it as well and agreed that it was not (or at least should not) be normal. I have never seen a screen do this before.
At any rate... Dell is sending me a new machine, but I am worried that this might be something that is inherent with this video card and LG screen combination.
I simply cannot imagine this being inherent and Dell allowing laptops to go out with the problem. I can't even imagine how they could have tested the screen and not noticed the problem.
Been trolling around here for a while for great advice for my laptop but it seems that I've got a problem now.
While just doing everyday work my screen started showing a grainy/ red tint all over with slight adjustments of the screen angle, it's progressively gotten worse as now no angle at all will give the clear normal picture.
The machine itself is working fine and when I plug it into an external monitor the picture is perfect, it just seems to be occuring on the screen.
I was wondering if there was anything I could personally do to fix the problem as I don't really want to be shipping it to Acer at the moment as I'm out of the country for a while.
I own the HP PAVILION 15-E009TU notebook. It is just 10 months old. I had some grey lines in the LCD screen few days ago and called hp for warranty replacement. a technician came and replaced the LCD screen with a new one.Â
Â
However the new screen has a sort of Blue tint the entire screen. I have tried different colour setting which may fix it in windows but the blue tint is still there when windows is booting up and in the BIOS. I mean what? Did I just get a faulty/refurbished screen again? Also the screen doesn't look HD like my original screen. Is there anyway to verify that I got the exact model screen I originally had? and what about the blue tint? should i try warranty again?
Im not sure if other owners of this laptop have this problem, but the screen display has a blue tint to it. Ive tried adjusting the color in the graphic property, but i can never seem to get it right so the colors on pictures are never accurately depicted when compared to my other laptops or monitors.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy is Dell still selling notebooks with Nvidia GeForce 8000M Series such as the XPS M1730?
They know the GPU is defective and will fail far sooner than it is intended to. They are selling a ticking time bomb.
I know that they release a BIOS update but that will only delay the eventual break down a bit later after the standard warranty expires.
I bought a HP Presario DV8339us a few days ago and I put Windows XP on it and installed all the necessary drivers. Now I have no idea what's going on but when i maximize my Firefox or IE windows the screen flickers constantly and won't stop until I actually turn off the computer. I'm running on a nVidia GeForce GO 7600. Got all the drivers from the HP site so i'm pretty sure they aren't corrupt.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi'm searching for a notebook, and so far, the Acer TravelMate 8471-944G32N Timeline seems to be exactly what i need. however, i really have to have a notebook that supports hardware virtualization/intel VT. the CPU does support this, but i've failed to find info on the web whether the mainboard and BIOS support this feature too on the notebook. acer support hasn't managed to deliver me an answer in three tries now.
so, is anyone here who knows the answer or who owns one of these notebooks (or a similar one) and can try it out?
My 1647 came in yesterday. I was pumped to finally have it.
As soon as I pulled up IE I noticed a very distinct yellow tint to every color displayed on the screen. This is very annoying and I'm not getting used to it at all. The difference between this display and my Mac Book Pro is unbelievable. The colors on the MacBook are better in every way. I'm very disappointed in the display. I had hoped it was going to blow me away, but instead I'm very underwhelmed.
Has anyone else noticed this on their RGBLED display? I've seen it mentioned on other models on this forum, but no mention on other 1645/1647's.
My D630 screen is losing it color the whites look yellowish no matter how hard I try to adjust it. The unit was bought from Dell
new and still has about 5 months on the basic warranty. Is screen replacement covered for this problem?
Yellow tint and dead/stuck pixel test for i5 & i7 MBPs - Mac Forums
For anyone interested, you can use either site (same sites used by the many people still with the iMac issue) below to test your monitor:
To test yellow tint. Maximize your browser; the top and bottom bars should be identical: iMac 27", 21.5" Yellow Tinge Test To test yellow tint and dead/stuck pixels. Launches a more thorough test in-browser: Apple iMac (Fall 2009) Issues: How to Check Your iMac
I think everyone with a 2010 MBP should run those tests and read through that thread. Some people are probably being too critical, while others have real problems (complete with photos).
I've had my 2.4ghz MacBook for a year now and I just realized something: its LCD has a yellowish tint to it. I've compared it with a 2.4ghz Blackbook with the same calibration and color profile, and still, mine has a warm, yellowish tint while the other has a cooler, bluish one. Which one is normal? Is mine normal? (Mine is a tad bit darker too, even at max brightness.)

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy dv2000t that I use for school and docked at home now has a blue tint on external monitor.
HP wants to repair, so i have a few options:
1. Pay and repair
2. Get a mini-desktop and use the home monitor with mac mini, no external monitor for laptop(Looking at the Mac Mini)
3. Get a USB-to-VGA or similar (laggy though)
4. New laptop.
i reformatted my 13" pro and after some updates i notice that my screen had a more of a yellowish tint to it. before i guessed it might of had a blueish tint to it? i cant seem to figure it out why might i have a yellowish tint now verse the other tint i had. i have played with color options under the color and there was no way that is was that blueish color. i think ill format again and see if it fixes it. if you have any input please let me know. right now it is on

My 1420 is suffering from a bad screen problem. There is a horizontal split in my screen so it is showing double.
Also I cannot start up my laptop. It runs the Dell thing then some garbled letters/numbers are everywhere. This problem started when I took off my battery since my notebook was charging.
Afterwards my screen froze, I got the BSOD and when I rebooted I was stuck with this problem.
i need the part number for the inspiron 15 screen

can't see a thing on the screen. He left the laptop on hibernate for around 3 hours and when he came back, the screen was very dark.
He says he's restarted several times since then and the only thing which seemed to "light up" the screen was taking the power out; allowing the laptop to run on battery. However, just 5 minutes ago, even though the laptop was on battery, the screen has gone dark. He can barely make out MSN conversations by shining his lamp onto the screen but he can't see the mouse cursor.
The laptop is around 1 and a half years old.
All of a sudden, after some time, when I turned the laptop the screen has become very dim and I can't get it back to normal. I tried Fn+Up but it doesn't work.

I've got an Inspiron 1420 running vista ultimate. I've had some bug issues in the past where I would set the screen brightness to 100% in both battery mode and plugged-in mode and it will still look dim but those issues always got resolved after a reboot.................................................
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
My screen is broken (long story... lent laptop to a friend, came back all screwed up).
my question is: a) with a replacement screen, do I need a new inverter as well, or no and b) if so, would most replacement screens come with one???
i found a old dell inspiron 8100 at my work that needs repaired.
the laptop works good except when i first got it couple days ago the screen would stay on but when you first start it would have a red or pink tint to it than would clear up after like min or 5min to normal.
so i ran it for couple hours because it did say with a note on the laptop the screen blacks out.
so that was true it went out than when i close the lid and open it would come back on for awhile.
and than it got to the point it ony comes on for like 5sec at start up than goes right off but you could see everything with a flash light facing it .....
Her mum was using the laptop a couple of nights ago and the screen just went blank suddenly when she was browsing the internet.
She held the Power button in and turned it off as it was still running. When she tried to Start it up again the Laptop is starting up but nothing is coming up on the screen, The screen is staying completely blank,
Although when you hold for talk sake the Light of your mobile phone around 1cm away from the Screen you can see the Desktop of the Laptop. So basically the laptop is working but theres no light to light the screen up it just stays black as if it isnt turned on.
if there was any way to put a bigger screen in one of these and how much it would cost......
