I'm helping a friend with an Inspiron B120 with a loud fan. Its not _terribly_ loud, but it does sound tired and like its trying harder than it should need to.
Is this something to be concerned with? Is it a common problem? How difficult is it to replace the fan?
I tried hitting delete while starting and just got a screen for testing components and no bios.

I need to take everything apart to get to the cooling fan, that includes, taking the hard drive off, the keyboard, speakers, dvd room...
I am trying to use the Dell s2009W display with an old Dell inspiron b120 laptop. But I can't get the max resolution of 1600x900 to show as option in the display settings dialogue.
I previously used this laptop with another Dell display that had, I believe, an even larger resoultion, but certainly larger than 1280x768. There were no problems there.
Should I sell my M1330 and try for another notebook?
If so, which ones would be comparable?
I'm thinking Lenovo SL300 or T400....
I love my XPS, but the 8400m gs debacle has me a bit worried.
I applied the copper mod and drastically reduced my temps, and haven't had a problem in 8 months, but I'm thinking it's just a ticking time bomb.....
Lately there have been a lot of posters just coming to the Apple forum to bash users and Apple. Since reporting them doesn't seem to be working, today I started using the ignore list. Its a little cumbersome to have to go into your user CP to do it but if it improves the experience on the site its worth it. Its a shame to have to do this but it seems to be the only way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell B120 used in ebay. Laptop worked great on AC adapter, but battery showed 1% on battery indicator and would not work. I ordered a non-dell replacement from a company on ebay. Battery came in and had 94% when installed. Just to check I unplugged AC adapter.
Laptop seems to work properly for the few seconds I checked. I then replaced AC adapter cord and allowed battery to charge overnight. Next morning I powered up laptop and checked battery power.
Laptop showed 100%, so I pulled AC adapter plug. Boom, nothing, no power. I have tried everything to get this battery to work. Bios sees battery and shows no battery when removed.
Bios we upgraded to latest dell upgrade A08. Battery info in bios says battery performing normal. shows 100% but no power .....
I have an Inspiron E1505 with a Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A cd/dvd drive. I THINK I have a firmware/driver issue with it because of a weird problem I've been having lately.
I noticed a couple times when running the DVD-ROM of a new game, the disc spun up really, REALLY loudly. And, the disc won't autoplay (I don't know if that's related to the cd drive or not...autoplay hasn't been working for a while, now). For the most part though, the disc spins-up normally and the game runs just fine. The problem comes up everytime I quit the game -- the screen goes black as if going back to the desktop but seems to freeze .....
When I turn the power on my laptop. It doesn't do anything, but make this very loud beeping sound. Can you tell me what is the issue and how can I get this issue resolved.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI had to have my motherboard replaced because of some audio issues and after I got my laptop back i noticed something that hadn't been happening before.
As soon as I turn on my laptop the fan start working extremely loud with cold air coming out. I know that the fan is supposed to be this loud when laptop is close to overheating, but I don't see the point of being this loud while everything is on normal temperature (checked with SpeedFan) and laptop doesn't feel hot at all.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a DELL Inspiron 15z 5523 which intermittently make a repeated series of 5 loud beeps. The support site seems to suggest a problem with the CMOS/Bios coin cell battery. So I presume I need to replace this. Does this sound right?
I have the user manual that shows how to replace this battery (after taking everything apart!) which looks do-able. But I can't find out what kind of coin cell battery I need to buy for replacement.
Is anyone else experiencing real high fan noise while playing a game? Even with the sound on it's clearly hearable and really annoying and continues going.
As soon as I exit the game it's over, so it probably involves temp & CPU clock. My temps are about ~70C when I exit
The CPU temp is 60 C
The noise level is really high, not that high- but enough to annoy you if you work a lot with your laptop.
And that's when I'm doing almost nothing. Its starting right after booting the laptop.
i have an m1330 with nvidia graphic card for 6 months. my laptop used to run super quiet but lately the fan is almost always on... even on idle.

As soon as the power came on, the fan started blowing and is so loud I cant believe this is normal. I decided to convert from my MacBook, so I'm new to Dell... is this normal? About 2 weeks ago, my computer started to slow down. A lot. My typing would lag on the screen, and some of the letters won't even show up.
I also seem to get an insane amount of pop ups on whatever sites I go on, and I get about 5 popups every hour, on the hour. When I scan, though, I get nothing.
Now, this is the worst part. My computer will completely freeze a lot. When it does, I'll wait a minute to see what happens.
Then, if I click the screen a few times, a single, insanely loud beep will come from the computer. This will happen a few times before I can actually use my computer, and I have to re-boot often.
My computer is insanely slow, like I said before, and it takes forever for it to finish starting up. Half the time, it'll freeze before I can even log in.
If it helps, this started around the time when I signed up for Facebook, if that has to do with anything. I've tried to do virus scans many many times, and I used the Dell Automated PC TuneUp tool. But, nothing seems to work.

It seems that occasionally the fan runs at top speed and is pretty noisy in the process.
This happens even when the machine is idle. For example yesterday I was sat with nothing open on the table beside me whilst I worked on my T61p, and suddenly the fan starting running at full speed for 5mins or so.
I can't see any pattern to this, but naturally if there is a problem, I'd like to get it sorted out sooner rather than later.
when I click my spacebar especially near to its right end It clicks very loudly.
Can I safety remove spacebar and fix it by myself?
I've noticed that when I shut down the computer, just before everything turns off I hear a loud(ish) click from the back of the computer. Same sort of noise as when you turn on a light switch, maybe a little sharper.
At first I thought it might be the speakers, but not so sure. Anyone else have this? It might just be hardware turning off
I searched but couldn't find anything on this. I had an 8600 processor originally and got a QX9300 for my M6400. Nothing else changed (yet) and I'm running W7. The fan hardly spun up to an audible degree with the 86, but now with the QX I hear the fan all the time...
Is this normal? I mean, I know it's a quad core vs. a dual core and the clock speed is slightly faster (2.53G vs. 2.4G). But I can just have the laptop sitting doing nothing and the fan is kicked up pretty much all the time....
I had my dell 1530 xps laptop since june and recenty I been hearing a loud humming noise on the right side of the laptop. It sounds like its the hardrive humming loudly but then I put my ear on it and move up near the fan and it seems its making noise there also.
It comes on randomly, when im surfing the net its fine most of the time, when im running games, the computer starts this loud humming noise on the right side ofthe computer.
It can also start doing this when im just surfing the net. And what I noticed also is when the system starts to make the humming noise, the fans kick in atthe same time if its not spinning at the moment.......
is it just me or other people find it the speakers not loud enough?
i have tryd to change in control panel but not much different
On my (soon to not be my) 1536 I get really loud electrical squeals, kinda like interference that you would get on a phone. And I can usually hear it from across the room.
