Dell :: No Battery Power On B120
Oct 18, 2009
I recently purchased a Dell B120 used in ebay. Laptop worked great on AC adapter, but battery showed 1% on battery indicator and would not work. I ordered a non-dell replacement from a company on ebay. Battery came in and had 94% when installed. Just to check I unplugged AC adapter.
Laptop seems to work properly for the few seconds I checked. I then replaced AC adapter cord and allowed battery to charge overnight. Next morning I powered up laptop and checked battery power.
Laptop showed 100%, so I pulled AC adapter plug. Boom, nothing, no power. I have tried everything to get this battery to work. Bios sees battery and shows no battery when removed.
Bios we upgraded to latest dell upgrade A08. Battery info in bios says battery performing normal. shows 100% but no power .....

I currently have an Inspiron B120 (15.4" body) that has a 14.1" screen that I'd like to replace with a 15.4" WUXGA screen. Will there be any compatibility issues? Other than buying a 15.4" bezel, is there anything else that would be needed?

When I pull the power cord to switch to battery power while in Windows my lcd goes to black. The only way I get my video back is a hard reset and reboot. Later on I tried this and everything was back to normal. Why is this happening? Is this some weird standby?

I need to replace the cooling fan on my dell inspiron b120 but I have one question.... do I need to do any programming after I'm done with the job? or I just need to turn on my pc and its going to start working like always?
I need to take everything apart to get to the cooling fan, that includes, taking the hard drive off, the keyboard, speakers, dvd room...

I am trying to use the Dell s2009W display with an old Dell inspiron b120 laptop. But I can't get the max resolution of 1600x900 to show as option in the display settings dialogue.
I previously used this laptop with another Dell display that had, I believe, an even larger resoultion, but certainly larger than 1280x768. There were no problems there.

I'm helping a friend with an Inspiron B120 with a loud fan. Its not _terribly_ loud, but it does sound tired and like its trying harder than it should need to.
Is this something to be concerned with? Is it a common problem? How difficult is it to replace the fan?

I've had a strange people recently plaguing my D630 (purchased June 2008).
The battery states 100%, pull the plug, and within a minute, it goes to about 10%, then the laptop shuts down.
Now, here's the catch - the battery is still good. I've tried the battery out in my other D630 and it works perfect, still holding a charge. I also tried the other laptop's battery in the problem laptop and it did the same thing.

In playing games the mouse either has a mouse lag or is slow when using battery power..
Works fine when the power adapter is attached. Tried different settings in the power. This happens for both wireless through USB or wired..

I have an M1730
8700M GT SLI
2.4GHz C2D
2 Hard Drives....specs in the signature...
anyway, I'm wondering if there is any program, script, or something similar that will, when on battery power:
Turn off all LED lights (Monitor case, speaker LEDs, touchpad LEDs), turn off the NIC card, and turn off one of the graphics cards, and turn down the monitor brightness.
As of right now, doing basically nothing (writing this post) I get about 1 hour 22 minutes of battery life.
I know that Dell's little program Quickset can handle the LEDs, but I dont want to have to run that program in order to turn off the LEDs on battery. Also I know that some power options (screen brightness) is handled in the Power Options but I'd like it so that when I unplug the computer from AC power, it does everything mentioned above...and then when i plug back in, all the lights and gizmo's and graphics cards come back on.
Anyone know how to do this?..I just want everything to be automatic and easy.

The battery/power signal (the three green LEDs right under the display on the right side) keeps flashing orange four times then blinks green once, and repeats.
The PC is on AC power and the battery is full too (99%). I don't know what the problem is.
I read around and it seems my battery is dead. Fortunately, my purchase of the XPS was just under a year ago, so I should get it replaced without paying up. I have a replacement battery that I bought at purchase. I hope it lasts loner. Do you guys reccomend taking out the battery when running on AC power?

Basically my 1640 laptop has worked perfectly pretty much constantly plugged into the mains for two weeks but now I have to charge it while switched off and then take the charger out when I switch it on, because otherwise the laptop just powers off after a minute of loading up Windows 7...
Also if I try to plug in the charger randomly then it just powers off.!

Iv read a few posts online saying that Dell blocks people from using non dell power adapters on their machines by not letting those adapters charge the battery.
My issue is, I need a new power adapter AND a new battery.
I really don't wanna fork over $130 for a new 6 cell battery, Especially because on the dell site the reviewers themselves had given it a bad review saying the battery usually dies in a year or less.
That and my Budget is about $100 for both battery and adapter.
I need to find a battery that works, and an adapter that will actually charge the battery and keep the notebook charged.
This is basically a question out for Dell Inspiron users that have had this same issue and have had to replace the battery or the charger. If you guys could tell me what has worked for you and what has not, that way I can at least narrow down my options on chargers and batteries.
Id like to find a charger with the same volts as the dell charger has If I can't find a non official charger that works, could you guys at least point me to a less expensive site where I could buy the dell power adapter.
I would much rather just buy a charger and battery outside dell though because their products are by no means high quality and are in fact well overpriced.

I own an Inspiron 1545 and would like to set-up two profiles, one for use when on battery and one for use when plugged in. Basically,
I want my laptop to run at maximum performance/brighter screen when plugged into the wall and have it run in a power-saving mode when running off the battery.
The Windows7 power options don't seem to be able to differentiate between plugged-in and battery operation. Is there perhaps a program which I can install to do this or is it just not possible??

All of a sudden the battery is showing 8% and not charging with the power pack plugged in, took a power pack from another
Dell and it showed same not charging, am i correct in figuring it is the battery because if it was the power pack it would probably shut down, which actually it did when i booted up without the battery pack plugged in

I have a problem with my XPS 1730 laptop, this started probably 4 months ago. (second laptop that has screwed up after the warranty ended). I'm hopeless at explaining stuff, so i'll do it in point forms.
* First sign of trouble started when i booted up my comp one day and it beeped before loading windows and paused saying something like
"AC power adaptor not recognised, press F1 to continue F2 to enter setup, system will run slower"
If i continued then it did run really slow (even though power option was set on high performance) and the battery didnt charge.
* Every time i turned on my computer i had to keep putting the power cable in and out, adjusting it as i did so, until the battery light on the top right (near the lcd screen) flashed. If that didnt flash and i turned it on then the unknown power adaptor message would come up.

I was thinking of purchasing a Dell XPS 1530 for college. I have everything customized exactly the way I want it but I was wondering if the bluetooth option was absolutely necessary for college campuses? I really do not want bluetooth in my laptop if I do not have to get it as I hear bluetooth drains laptop battery power, but is it required by todays standards?

I have a Dell Vostro 1710 laptop that was purchased in December 2008.
I am currently having problems however with the battery/charger. The battery does not charge except when I first plug it in. The Power Meter icon shows that it is charging but only for up to 10 seconds, then the message then goes to "On AC Power"
I first noticed that the battery icon on the taskbar in Windows XP PRo SP3 was saying "ONn AC Power" but not charging. Sure enough, it wasn't charging. My colleague who has the same laptop purchased at the same order but does not have an issue.
I have done all the things you normally do to troubleshoot a battery including reboot, check for software updates, swap the battery with my colleague, swap AC adapter, even replace the battery with a new one yet I still have that issue.
I have now noticed that it doesn't appear to be anything to do with Windows at all as when I power it down, plugging the charger in brings the charging light on for approximately 10 seconds, then the light goes out and the laptop doesn't charge.
This morning I tried a different battery that does charge into my laptop and had the same issue, which discounts it being a battery issue I think. I also tried downloading updated drivers from this website but again no joy.

First post here...
Here's the deal, my 600m won't charge the battery anymore and will not run off of the power cord.
The power cord is showing 19.5v which is correct.
The back of the power adapter jack on the mobo is showing about 3.5v when plugged in and the two outside pins that charge the battery are only showing about 0.02v. Is this normal voltage or do you think the mobo broken?
I'm not really sure which of the battery charging pins to check the voltage from and can't find a diagram of it anywhere.

I say 'playing' because I never actually get there. Say, Im on the train, and I'll want to play something.. Assassins Creed. I load it up, loading screen is fine, the little video opening is fine, as soon as it comes to actually rendering the graphics it jsut turns itself off. I plug it in at home and it runs beautifully, but as soon as I unplug that power cable, the whole thing just turns off.
It reports a windows error after this, but there is nothing in the error log telling me what shut it down. I KNOW this isn't overheating because I can play it fine on power and although it gets hot when playing gfx intense games it has never turned itself offdue to that.
The games I can play on battery are WoW and Cimcity 4 and audiosurf (although that lags alot on battery :) xD
The games I cannot are Assassins Creed and Devil may Cry 4.
Is this a power issue?
I have tried on multiple power settings and it still likes to turn off when I want to play these games. It may be a GPU power issue?

Recently replaced the CMOS battery ourselves after getting the 5 beeps. Put everything back together but a couple of screws were loose and came out. Regardless the computer booted up fine and worked for a week. Yesterday it would not power on, at all. Unscrewed everything, opened it up, found some loose connections and tightened up, then replaced missing screws, seemed that they were tight and not spinning in place. Computer powered on fine. Next day, computer powers on again. Then, after a brief power down, it won't come on. AGAIN. Opened everything back up and saw the hard drive was loose so tightened that up via external screw. Put back together and made sure all connections were tight and re-screwed. Still will not power on.

I have a Studio 1737 running Windows Vista Home Service Pack 2. I'm running the latest BIOS and all of my drivers are up to date.
When the AC adapter is unplugged and I'm running on battery power the whole system lags. It also turns of when unplugged without warning after about 15 minutes.
Also, I get these error messages in my event viewer a couple of times an hour:
Log Name: System
Source: ACPI
Event ID: 13
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.

Working on a dell Inspiron b130 laptop. The power is plugged in, and battery is in. The power will not turn on at all, no fan or CPU. The main power light comes on when button is pressed for a moment then goes off. The battery light flashes slowly. The power cord adapter has a light on it and that says its working. I have tried taking the battery out and that does nothing.
I had assumed since its an older laptop that maybe the power was so drained that it needed it to be charged a little to have enough power to turn on. But it's been awhile an nothing yet. Is it trashed? We do have another hard drive around to try would that matter at all?

My dell laptop model is INSPIRON 1464.
Recently, it can't power on. Assuming that it was a static-flea problem, having happened before, I did the "remove the battery & AC power, holding down the power button for 30 secs" solution countless of times. Yet, to my dismay, it still couldn't power on.
I did notice, however, that each time the battery and the ac power were in and the socket power on, the battery indicator and the ac power cord were both lit. With this, I am certain that the AC power cord is working, and probably the battery is as well. I have also tried directly relaying the ac power to the laptop without the battery attached but failed.
