Just got my e6400. Thanks for the help selecting it over the past few months. I'm really happy with it apart from one small issue.
It seems that occasionally the fan runs at top speed and is pretty noisy in the process.
This happens even when the machine is idle. For example yesterday I was sat with nothing open on the table beside me whilst I worked on my T61p, and suddenly the fan starting running at full speed for 5mins or so.
I can't see any pattern to this, but naturally if there is a problem, I'd like to get it sorted out sooner rather than later.
Bought a latitude E6400 a few weeks ago. Every now and again a loud cracking noise can be heard somewhere around the left side of the keyboard. This happens very infrrequently, about 10 times since I have had it.
Before I ring Dell has anyone come across this before?
The noise is like a crack and then a smaller click Sounds like a small peice of plastic just broke or something.
The laptop could be sitting there doing nothing for 20 mins and then the noise happens.
Iv just started using my laptop to output HDMI and iv got a problem with the audio. Iv set the laptop to output the audio and it does work, but whenever a program ends and i open up another one it runs silently, despite me having changed nothing except the program.
In order to get the audio back i have to randomly unplug the HDMi cable, mute it, pause it, unmute it unpause etc and eventually one of these fixes the audio issue
Can anyone shed any light on what could be causing the audio to work sometimes and not work others?
My wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?
Is anyone else experiencing real high fan noise while playing a game? Even with the sound on it's clearly hearable and really annoying and continues going. As soon as I exit the game it's over, so it probably involves temp & CPU clock. My temps are about ~70C when I exit
The new XPS 3 Ubuntu 12 preinstalled laptop is making loud fan noise. Is there a way to fix it? If not, how do I return the laptop and get my money back?
I just received my brand new XPS 13 yesterday and followed the quick start instructions. Plugged it in and pressed on the power button. As soon as the power came on, the fan started blowing and is so loud I cant believe this is normal. I decided to convert from my MacBook, so I'm new to Dell... is this normal? It's so loud, I can't ignore it.
I got a new laptop in about June or so, and it ran great. I have McAfee for anti-virus, if that helps.
About 2 weeks ago, my computer started to slow down. A lot. My typing would lag on the screen, and some of the letters won't even show up.
I also seem to get an insane amount of pop ups on whatever sites I go on, and I get about 5 popups every hour, on the hour. When I scan, though, I get nothing.
Now, this is the worst part. My computer will completely freeze a lot. When it does, I'll wait a minute to see what happens.
Then, if I click the screen a few times, a single, insanely loud beep will come from the computer. This will happen a few times before I can actually use my computer, and I have to re-boot often.
My computer is insanely slow, like I said before, and it takes forever for it to finish starting up. Half the time, it'll freeze before I can even log in.
If it helps, this started around the time when I signed up for Facebook, if that has to do with anything. I've tried to do virus scans many many times, and I used the Dell Automated PC TuneUp tool. But, nothing seems to work.
I've noticed that when I shut down the computer, just before everything turns off I hear a loud(ish) click from the back of the computer. Same sort of noise as when you turn on a light switch, maybe a little sharper.
At first I thought it might be the speakers, but not so sure. Anyone else have this? It might just be hardware turning off
I searched but couldn't find anything on this. I had an 8600 processor originally and got a QX9300 for my M6400. Nothing else changed (yet) and I'm running W7. The fan hardly spun up to an audible degree with the 86, but now with the QX I hear the fan all the time...
Is this normal? I mean, I know it's a quad core vs. a dual core and the clock speed is slightly faster (2.53G vs. 2.4G). But I can just have the laptop sitting doing nothing and the fan is kicked up pretty much all the time....
I had my dell 1530 xps laptop since june and recenty I been hearing a loud humming noise on the right side of the laptop. It sounds like its the hardrive humming loudly but then I put my ear on it and move up near the fan and it seems its making noise there also.
It comes on randomly, when im surfing the net its fine most of the time, when im running games, the computer starts this loud humming noise on the right side ofthe computer.
It can also start doing this when im just surfing the net. And what I noticed also is when the system starts to make the humming noise, the fans kick in atthe same time if its not spinning at the moment.......
On my (soon to not be my) 1536 I get really loud electrical squeals, kinda like interference that you would get on a phone. And I can usually hear it from across the room.
I have an Inspiron E1505 with a Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A cd/dvd drive. I THINK I have a firmware/driver issue with it because of a weird problem I've been having lately.
I noticed a couple times when running the DVD-ROM of a new game, the disc spun up really, REALLY loudly. And, the disc won't autoplay (I don't know if that's related to the cd drive or not...autoplay hasn't been working for a while, now). For the most part though, the disc spins-up normally and the game runs just fine. The problem comes up everytime I quit the game -- the screen goes black as if going back to the desktop but seems to freeze .....
So ever since the technician came out and upgraded my processor from the i7 720 to the 820, the fan has been coming on louder and more frequently than when i first got the laptop. Any ideas as to why? Is this something that can be easily fixed?
I have had my Vostro 1500 for around 18 months now and it has been problem free so far until yesterday evening.
Basically my girlfriend was doing a bit of surfing and I had some music streaming at the same time. All of a sudden there was a loud clicking coming from the laptop.
I thought it was the music at first! but I managed to mute the sound and it was the laptop. It was quite a loud click happening at least twice a second .....
When I turn the power on my laptop. It doesn't do anything, but make this very loud beeping sound. Can you tell me what is the issue and how can I get this issue resolved.
I have a VPCF11S1E and yesterday I left my vaio on without being plugged in, so it put himself 'asleep'. I couldn't turn him on but did the battery out-holding-on-button-plug-in-push-on-battery-in-trick and it worked. But since then I have a major problem.
My fan is going crazy and it seems like I have over 9000 programs on ( ). From when i completely shut of my vaio, my fan starts (loudly) when I hit the log-in page and never stops until I shut it off or put him in standby,
when I start my vaio from standby, it takes +30 seconds before my fan starts again loudly. It keeps blowing loudly even when I don't run any programs
I'm helping a friend with an Inspiron B120 with a loud fan. Its not _terribly_ loud, but it does sound tired and like its trying harder than it should need to.
Is this something to be concerned with? Is it a common problem? How difficult is it to replace the fan?
I have a Dell XPS L502X laptop and lately I keep hearing this loud short little "squeak" noise coming from where the fan is sometimes. I have confirmed it is not the hard drive acting up as I have run a diagnostic program to check HD health and it is fine, but I have the feeling something is up with the fan. Would the fan have to be replaced? It seems to be working properly but that noise makes me worried something is up.
I had to have my motherboard replaced because of some audio issues and after I got my laptop back i noticed something that hadn't been happening before.
As soon as I turn on my laptop the fan start working extremely loud with cold air coming out. I know that the fan is supposed to be this loud when laptop is close to overheating, but I don't see the point of being this loud while everything is on normal temperature (checked with SpeedFan) and laptop doesn't feel hot at all.
2 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).
Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day.
There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.
my Vostro 5460 sounds like rattling marbles very loud whenever the fan kicks in. I bought the laptop in Thailand but now live in the U.S. How to get spare parts or diagnostics?
