Jan 13, 2009I have brought a new dell studio 1435 laptop and they provided me with default windows vista home premiun OS.
I have installed windows XP professional OS after changing the BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS:
Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off
Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA)
Can i will be able to install the windows vista OS after installing windows Xp with the same BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS:

Dell :: XPS 1730 Cpu Jumping To 100% In Vista
Feb 25, 2009I have an XPS 1730 and recently the CPU will jump to 100% usage while just watching dvd's and not doing anything really intensive. The laptop will become very slow, usually having to restart to resolve the problem
I've tried doing a fresh install of vista 32 ultimate with all the latest drivers installed and lastest A10 bios yet i'm still having problems. Also bios defaults have been loaded.
I've ran the dell diagnostics cd, done the full system test and many of the other tests you can do and not one has failed.
All Tempatures seems to be ok aswell.
Anyone have any similar problems or have any ideas what the problem could be?
The laptop is no longer in warranty so i can't really contact dell about this.
Dell :: 1730 With Vista Ultimate Momentary Freezing
Mar 20, 2010It starts to happen and the laptop has been running for several hours. It goes away after a reboot. Its mega annoying when watching a you tube video and it keeps freezing, just for a couple seconds then it goes again. Keeps doing it throughout the video. Also when opening web pages etc. Its aggrivating as heck. Anyone else had this problem. Its not the fans or anything becasue as soon as you reboot its fine again for several hours to even days.

Oct 18, 2008I have a Studio 17 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. Im trying to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and when I boot from the DVD, it says Loading files, than at the end of that it shows me to screen with the Microsoft bar like its going to load windows, but then I immediately get a blue screen with the error irql not equal to or something like that.
I tried disable the flash cache in the BIOS but it still gets the blue screen as soon as it trys to enter the setup screen.
My BIOS is set to ACHI and I have not changed that.
I wanted to try out the 64 bit Vista and still have my 32 bit on it in case I run into some apps that wont run in 64 bit.
anyone have any idea what I need to do? I have a seperate logical partition that I made for the Vista 64 bit. So I have 2 partitions, a C: partition which has the Vista Home on it that came with this laptop and I was hoping to install the 64 bit onto the D: partition but Im getting the blue screen.
Do I need to do anything with the ACHI setting? I have 4 gigs of ram and would like to use it.

"The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware."

Mar 23, 2009i have recently formatted my hard drive and installed cean copy of Vista Ultilate on my DELL Inspiron 1525 machine. I did not use dell recovery partion to install, instead i use Vista Disk.
I was able to install all the drivers except bluetooth. Whenever i try to to install bluetooth drivers i get following error " The installer be run on windows vista only"..
i was with dell tech support for couple of hours but they were not able to solve my problem. The bluetooth is enabled in BIOS, switch is on etc.

Aug 7, 2009I have an HP dv5t which I purchased new last October. A couple of weeks ago, my HD got fried (think it overheated). HP sent me a new HD, and I had a technician install it for me. I never made recovery disks as instructed by HP (was gonna get around to it; who knew the HD would die in 9 mos?). The tech ended up installing Vista Ultimate Lite instead, which I thought was okay b/c there's no bloatware that way. However, I miss a lot of the elements of the Aero environment, particularly Windows DVD Maker.
I have two questions:
1. Can I get backup CDs from HP to reinstall Vista Home Premium (which is what my lappie was shipped with)? Would doing so reinstall the bloatware?
2. Is there a way to tweak Vista Ultimate Lite so I can have the standard GUI w/o putting bloatware back in my system? The environment in Ultimate Lite reminds me too much of XP (clunky-looking windows, fonts are too large, etc).

so i want to reinstall vista at this point for now my last install of vista somehow got screwed up oneday i booted up and it was missing windows files so i formatted it burned a vista install cd everything boots fine the install screen come up ....

I just got a new 7200rpm 320gb from WD to replace my old drive . I replaced it, boot the laptop (VGN-CR31S) as usual,
and put the first recovery DVD in the tray. Unfortunately, when it gets to the options menu,
I can't get it to install, it keeps asking for the right volume or cd/dvd. I thought the recovery dvds would be able to install everything from scratch ..

Oct 19, 2008My acer 5100 came with vista and I'm trying to do a fresh install of XP SP2 on it.
After I get past the partitioning part in the install process, it goes on to the "installing windows" stage and shuts off midway. This has been happening a few times and after some googling, reckoned it has to do with the SATA hard drive.
I tried to get on Bios and change the SATA to IDE but I didnt find any modifiable property for the hard drive on BIOS
I'm wondering some of you folks who installed XP on a vista laptop got it done.

Apr 17, 2009Just received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.
Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?

Apr 7, 2010I have an Upgrade dvd Vista business to Win 7 that I received for my z790. Finally got around to install Win 7 and seems like I will need to install Vista first to be able to use the upgrade DVD. Any workaround?
My secondary objective is to install new SSD.The way I see it now:
1. Ghost XP on SSD
2. Install Vista on SSD
3. Install Win 7 on SSD
Is there an easier way to do it? Any more pitfalls to avaoid? Thanks!
the only Win 7 key that I have is the upgrade Vista to Win 7. Am I correct that retail/all versions install Win 7 disk will not let me use this key?
HP/Compaq :: Clean Installing Vista Hacked By Pca
Jan 6, 2009I just got one of these the other day and in order to remove all the bloatware, update to SP1 and more, I went and installed a clean Vista, even backing and rhacked by pcaestoring the activation (as the thread about using ABR says).
After this, I download every single driver from the HP support page and went through installing them (of couse, the latest version of each and even other bloatware such as help files, wireless assistant, etc.). The thing is that, after everything was installed, I was still having a "yellow unknow device" in the device manager. After much thinking, I guessed that what was missing were the QuickLaunch buttons, because none of the QuickPlay buttons in the keyboard work, neither the "eject" button for the optical drive. But that QuickLaunch wasn't listed in HP drivers. All there was is a Quick Launch Security Update, but not the actual drivers!
After much searching without hope, I tried one last thing: to let windows install those drivers by searching in Windows Update. Amazingly it worked and they were installed as, efectively, the Quick Launch Buttons! But the problem is that those still don't work! The volume mute, slider, treble and bass work (but make no sound when touched, even though they are activated in the Control Panel - Quick Touch), but the QuickPlay, DVD, TV and Eject still don't work!
Also note that before even trying to use Windows Update, I went and installed every single driver (again, not drivers that were outdated to the ones in HP support and I already installed) in the SwSetup folder: still no luck. For what I read in a thread, there should be (?) a QLB folder that would have the Quick Launch Buttons? Well... I didn't had it...................

Jan 2, 2009I am installing the oem version of vista home premium 64 bit on my brand new macbook pro. I use bootcamp assistant to create a 60gig partition, insert my vista cd to start the install, use advanced options to let vista convert format to ntfs.
I followed the steps/guide exactly and everything goes fine. The system goes through installation but when does its first reboot and comes back to the install screen it errors on the step that says completing installation. It remains on the completing installation step for a few minutes and then an error comes up the says "Windows cannot configure one or more system components. To install windows restart the computer and restart the installation."

Aug 1, 2009I purchased a ready-to-go VGN-Z720D from Sony, and their bloatware is, well, horrible, so i figured that would be as good a time as any to do a clean install AND run Windows 7 RC1.
Problem is, most of the utilities/programs listed earlier in the "Windows 7 on Vaio Z" thread are not available from esupport.sony.com in 32-bit flavor for this particular model.
I've tried to use 32-bit drivers from the Z690 on my Z720, but Sony does enforce model restrictions within its package

Mar 24, 2009i have a new laptop i brought about 2 months ago called "Acer Aspire 7530". It has 4 gig ram, and a 2.1 GHz processor.
I want to install Vista 64 bit on it, as the original comes with a 32 bit version which I do not want.
Anyways, when i boot from my vista CD it goes into the installation menu. But after i choose the language, it says "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contain the correct drivers, and then click ok"
I got all my laptop drivers and put them onto a USB stick and tried that, but it did not work.

Feb 8, 2009I had got a VAIO NS15G a few days back with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
I have just upgraded to Vista Ultimate. But after installing the FN Keys for volume and Brightness are not working.
After installing some software from VAIO website, it was under support downloads, dont remember the name, the Volume key is working perfectly (fn+F3 and F4)
But brightness is not working. It shows the brightness metre on pressing the keys but doesnt change or adjut the brightness.

Jan 7, 2009I have a new unibody Macbook Pro 15 inch and after playing with it for a month and having XP in parallel only, I decided to install Vista Ultimate through boot camp so that I'll be able to play games on my macbook. Now here's the problem...
After I load up the boot camp assistant and I proceed to install Windows, the laptop restarts and goes to the Vista installation screen. I set up the region codes and language that I prefer and I hit next. Now, I finally hit the big "Install Now" button in the middle. After clicking on this button though, I hit my error:
Required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
My dvd drive is the Matsua DVD-R UJ-868
My IDE controller is the 82801BA Ultra ATA Storage Controller 244B
Also, no, I do not have an external DVD drive and so loading up another CD with the drivers is out of the question.
Acer :: 5570-4011- Installing Winxp Instead Of Vista Home
Dec 27, 2007I have acer 5570-4011 laptop with vista home (and ubuntu on a separate partition). I rebooted from cd, using winxp pe, deleted all files on vista partition, except those in the root, and started to install win xp pro. After installation files were copied to the hard drive, I restarted without cd and when setup continued, it gave me "file ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error code is 7".
On MS support site they say about ACPI or memory problems and suggest to press F7 during that step to skip ACPI check, but it doesnt help in my case.
How can I install WinXP ?

Oct 12, 2014Have Extensa 4420. Been unable to restore old Vista OS so decided to move up to Win 7 32 bit. Started the install from DVD but got error message that I could not install on the system partition as it was "reserved" by Acer. This is half of the HDD.

Mar 24, 2009I'm having 2 issues with my 1730 and I was wondering if anyone here could provide me with some advice.
First, these issues are both intermittent, I cannot reliably reproduce either issue on command.
Second, my machine shipped with Vista32. Both issues existed in Vista32 and have persisted into Win7. The Vista32 HDD was removed and set on the shelf and a completely clean install of Win7 was performed to a new HDD.
Issue #1. Memory Parity Error, System halted. This happens as a BSOD less than 5 secodns after the post at boot. The wording was different in Vista but it said the same thing. It claims it's a hardware error and contact the Mfg. This happens to me once or twice a week always on the first power up. It is extremely rare that power cycling it does not solve the problem. It does not appear to be getting any worse, or better.
Issue #2. When gaming (windowed or full screen) the screen goes black and I get a notice that the video card stopped responding and has been reset. 10-15 seconds later the directx picture reappears and the game continues with no interruption.
I'm pretty sure these are in fact hardware problems, but how do I prove it to Dell? I can't demonstrate it reliably, and my machine passes every diagnostic I throw at it.
It sounds like a cold solder joint somewhere. I would think step 1 would be replace the video card and the RAM, and step two would be replace the system board. I don't see myself being able to convince Dell to just send out a guy with all the parts though...

So far its great. I'm running 175.75 for drivers.
Idle temp sits around 72C and 3D Mark is 10785.

May 16, 2009I'm not sure, but what exactly is the best cpu for the xps 1730? Can it use the t9800? Or is that a different chipset? And if possible can you list both the dual and quad (if such exist) that's the best for the laptop?
And on a side question, I'm coming from a MSI gt725 that has the radeon 4850. If both are non overclocked with theoreticaly same speed cpu, which would perform better overall on a real life situation, the radeon 4850 or the sli 9800m gt?
