Dell :: Interference With External Sound
Jun 13, 2009
I've found an issue that I haven't noticed before. Basically, whenever I plug in external speakers (my surround sound, for example) there is a lot of interference sound.
It seems to coincide with the hard drive light - When the hard drive is being read, interference happens.
I've tried this with the built in speakers - no interference. Also with sound muted, it still makes the noise. Anyone got any ideas why this would be, or how/if I can stop it?

When i plug my Sony Z into my Denon Receiver, using 3.5mm Jack -> 2 x Phono cable, there is a huge amount of crackling interference. At first i thought i was the lead but then I used it the other day again and it was fine and didn't know why.
In the end, i found out the AC Power Adapter wasn't plugged in and this worked fine. I then plugged in the AC Power Adapter and the crackling interference came back. My old Dell i8100 does not have this issue.

I recently bought a product that works better with an external micorphone headset. This was my first time ever using one with my laptop. When I went through the set up process, the microphone was not picking up any sound and I could not hear anything through the external headset.  I tried using both the microphone and headset port as well as different headsets with the same result. The headsets work fine on other devices. When I use just a plain headset connected through the headset port, I can hear just fine.Â
I went to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Manage Audio Devices to troubleshoot, but nothing worked. I tryed updating the latest drivers and was told the latest are already installed.Â
The Product Name is :Â HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
The Product # (NOT serial number) is :Â B5R46UA#ABA
The External Mic is called:Â IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

My Aspire 5738 is hooked up with AOC brand 27" HDMI external monitor by HDMI cable. This monitor is without any speakers. I made this monitor PRIMARY to 15" Aspire 5738 screen.
Â
When I play a DVD/CD using ROM drive NO SOUND comes out from built-in speakers of Aspire laptop. But picture runs on AOC monitor which is not useful. Aspire 5738 has TWO sound processors in device manager. One is Intel (Default) and other one ReaLTek, both are HD quality.
"How to configure (If Possible) any of the TWO sound processors to HDMI" OR any other practical solutions?

The sound on my HP Pavilion G6-1a19wm is not working.  Sound "does" work when using the audio jack with external speakers. I have tried uninstalling the driver, updating the driver, microsoft fix-it, and troublshooting steps. audio device shows in device manager and is supposedly working properly, mute is "not' enabled. visually all audio related things suggest that the audio is fine and troubleshooting finds no problems..Â

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 8600GT. I wanted to buy a 5.1 speaker set but it would be of no use as 1520 does not have 3 audio jacks while the 1525 and XPS 1530 has 5.1 output.
I was just wondering, if it was possible to somehow get an extra audio jack outside the laptop by checking if a header pin for a third audio jack exists on the motherboard since the audio chip is HD audio and motherboard design would be similar to 1525 and XPS 1530
I lot of people have openend up their systems and taken a look at the audio circuitry to fix the static noise coming from the headphone jacks. Did anyone notice if a third audio jack could be soldered to the motherboard to get 5.1 audio.

Okay, well the day before yesterday I was trying to watch Youtube but when I clicked on a video it had no sound. I thought it was Youtube, so I exited the site and thought I'd wait a little bit. So then I went to Spotify to listen to some music. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing was happening. Then I noticed a blue notice at the top that said something about my soundcard not working properly.
I then checked everything on my computer to see if it had sound. Windows Media Player...no, videos on Facebook...nope, nothing was working. At first I thought it was my daughter. I let her watch Youtube when she lays down for a nap. I came in the other day and she was hitting all kinds of buttons on my computer. I stopped her though and everything seemed fine. I also remember my computer updating that day. Could it be that something went wrong with the update? I don't know if that's possible or not.
Â
And also, what is a soundcard. Do I have to buy it or do I download it???
Â
I went to Yahoo answers and someone said to uninstall the drivers. I did that and then reinstalled them and it worked. The rest of that day I had sound on everything except for Facebook. Yesterday night it happened again and the sound has not returned since but my computer sounds are still working. When I logged on the computer made the log in sound it usually makes. I also tried to listen to a video with headphones and it still did not work. Â Again, I uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them and got nothing.Â

this is the second time i had a "made for dell" external dvd drive fail for my mini 9. i advise that everyone avoid this option.
dell wont give support for it and the company that sells it to dell is near impossible to get a hold of for product support.

I have a new XPS 1640 Dell notebook with ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT 1GB video.
I am using an external 24 in (1920 x 1200 res.) monitor through VGA port.
The notebook has additional HDMI and DisplayPort.
I'd like to know if it is possible to connect a second external monitor. It would be 17 in (1280 x 1024) used as extended desktop, not mirrored. The monitor has DVI port as well as VGA.
If it is possible, which cable should I use? I assume DisplayPort might be better than HDMI. Is there a such cable that converts DisplayPort to DVI?

I was wondering if anybody else is having issues with using 2 external monitors with their M6400?
My configuration:
I have a M6400 Covet, FX3700M, 8GB, Vista Ultimate 64, A01 BIOS, updated drivers... connected to an E/Port Plus 210W Port replicator. I have a 24" Dell 2405FPW external monitor connected to display #1 (1920x1200) and a 19" 1908WFP connected to display #2. (1440 x 900). Both are connected via DVI connectors.
My problem:
The secondary monitor never has problems... However, the main monitor (24" @ 1920x1200) goes all crazy. It has red "dots" that appear all over the screen in dark areas. The bottom of the screen sometimes has horizontal bars. I see red and black vertical bars as well. The screen constantly flickers and the image hangs off the edges many times. If I change the resolution to BELOW 1440 x 900 the screen looks fine. Anything over 1440 x 900 goes crazy. (none of this occurs when using the LCD on the laptop itself)
The 24" monitor is fine. I have swapped cables and they do not help. If I plug up my desktop computer to the montior- it is perfect in 1920x1200. If I plug up my old Dell Precision M90 using it's old E/Port docking station- it too works fine in 1920 x 1200. So it's not the monitor.
Dell support doesn't know what the problem is. They say it's probably a driver issue. (I have the latest driver) They say they will contact me in the future if there is ever a solution and they are going to escalate it to their video hardware team.
Is there anybody else out there experiencing the same issues as me?
If you are running dual monitors successfully with the E/Port Plus 210W, what monitors are you using, at what resolution and what connector? (DVI or that new display port thing) If you aren't using the E/Port Plus 210W- what docking station did dell sell you?
I need to get a resolution to this ASAP.
I've attached two photos taken from my digital camera showing the screen issues.

I am about to take delivery of an XPS M1330 with the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card. When at my desk, I am looking to use the laptop with a Dell 19-inch Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor [url] I am hoping to use the external monitor at the same time as the laptop monitor (for example, Outlook on one screen and Internet Explorer on the other).
- Is this possible? Does the graphics card support multiple monitors / dual view in this way?
The XPS screen resolution is 1280x800 and the resolution of the external monitor is 1440x900.
- Will the fact that the screens have different resolutions cause any problems?

Does anyone have a solution for 2 external monitors running 1920x1200 with the 1730?
I know there are docking stations (USB & Express Card) that have video with a max of 1600x1200.
There are also just plain USB to DVI adaptors but are also limited to 1600x1200.
Has anyone tested a cable like this...
