View 10 RepliesI am very curious with this Frankenstein-ish upgrade. I have seen both the Precision M4400 and the Latitude E6500 up close before and I do realize that both laptops use pretty much the same lower chassis and other modular internals with the only difference is the screen and screen bezel and touchpad unit.
With the exact port locations the same. Is it worth it to get a refurbished M4400 motherboard and swap it with a Latitude E6500 one and putting it in a fully working Latitude E6500?
The reason I ask about this is a friend of mine's mother works for a company that resells their ~1 year old Latitudes for a really cheap price (I think Latitude E6500's go around $250-$350 a piece!) and replace them with newer Latitudes and (rarely Precisions) from Dell the following year.
hey happy new year to y'all heres the thing so since dell replaced my mobo recently i kept getting high temps and they sent new heatsink with thermal pads and that kept my temps down, but as before the problem may come again so i got Arctic silver 5 thermal grease,
im gonna stick now to the dells pads until i notice higher temps, so what do you suggest, switch to Artic silver? i understand thermal grease dries up, what about the thermal pads? they deteriorate? snce when
i got my system i wasnt getting high temps but over two months it started going up and up and without thermal pad or grease gpu will hit 100 c... so what do you suggest in this case
Since the SXPS 16 chipset is the PM45, I wanted to know if anyone here has tried upgrading their CPU to a quad core?
I recently bought a QX9200 off ebay that I plan to put in the revised SXPS 16 when it comes out.
I have an old mac powerbook G4, i dont want to buy a new mac but I rather use a little money fixing this one up and making it faster and putting in the new OS. What are some steps I can take to make this computer faster, more reliable and up to speed with the new stuff out there (well this may be a stretch, but as much as possible)?
I need it to handle some multi-tasking and mostly school related stuff. Nothing major like designing, etc.
My HP model number 15do11TU, product code F6D42PA#ABG has a black screen with the cursor after I've entered the password. I can open the task manager but when I click switch to to try and get anything open nothing happens. I've tried removing the battery and powering off/on but still nothing ....

Works fine for video, preview of still photos perfect.Take the picture and as the photos "swooshes" to the left, you see that the saved image has a stripe about a third of the way up. For some reason, the saved image is copying the bottom 5% or so of the image, and "pasting" that slightly offset into the bottom third of the photo.
Taking a PrtSc copies a perfct image into the clipboard, (includes camera icons).
Changing image aspect, disablig Camera Plus does nothing.
At least three other people posted on a Microsoft page about this, seems to have arrived with 8.1 upgrade.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both drivers, no joy?
I have installed a clean Windows 8.1 on the Helix and have several issues.
The first thing I did after installing the system (and critical Windows Updates) was running the Lenovo System Update tool and downloading everything.
Helix turns on by itself after shutting down or putting into sleep. Disabled intel rapid start in BIOS. Cannot alter the “30 day standby mode” in settings because dependency package cannot be installed (issue 1).
I have an Acer Aspire 4720Z. Since long I had been using XP. Recently it was formatted and Windows 7 was installed. But after this upgradation, the WLAN is not working. Have banged my head with drivers and all.
Device manager is showing Microsoft Virtual Wi-Fi miniport adapter (although with XP it simply showed by the name of WLAN adapter as far as I remember). And checking it's properties it says that the device is working properly. When Intel Wi-Fi Technology is tried to get started, it says that 'A supported intel wireless network adapter not found'.
I say 3 gb because I know even if I put in two 2gb chips I will only see 3.25 anyways.

Is the heat issue fixed on this model? How is the battery life? Is there anything else I should recommend or take away from this let?
Any help or tips would be appreciated. He plans on buying next week. I'm still looking but this sleek design looks WAY better than the HP..
I am looking for your opinions. Check out this deal on ebay.
All the signs say not to buy but I have not had much experience with ebay.
I have vista home premium that came with my e1705. I am running xp right now. I figured I might give it some time but I am looking for your opinions on the matter. Is it a worthy upgrade?

My wife is using my old m1710 mainly for photoshop and i have noticed that it's very very hdd intensive. She complains that it would freeze sometimes when working with a lot of files or with large files.
I decided to upgrade the HDD to SSD, but after reading here and there i saw different opinions.
Some say i will not see any increase in performance because the bottleneck is the SATA support of m1710 mobo, some say still there will be increase in performance.
I have an e1505, w/ a T2500, and 1gb ram.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSome pros and cons would be nice. I am thinking of upgrading but I am not sure if I want to. Can you easily install older games? Is there a significant performance boost?

Is it better to get the cheapest hard drive and replace it with your own SSD?
I was wondering if the accidental coverage from Dell is worth it on the m17x? Does anyone have this coverage and has had to use it?

View 10 Replies View RelatedA Dell Studio 1737 OR the Dell Studio XPS 1640? The Studio 1737 has been out longer for any problems to be fixed and whatnot and comes at a lower price. The Studio XPS 1640 has been out for just a couple of months and there are dozens of reports of BSOD's, heating issues, etc...
I would like to get the Studio XPS 1640, but generally I wait about 4-6 months after the product has been released before buying. There are talks about a built-in TV Tuner, but I haven't seen that on the Dell website. People are also saying Dell is going to upgrade the video card .....
i already bought a studio xps 16" (sig) for 920 with a 1 year warranty.
is it worth upgradeing to 2 or 4(3 is price of 4) warranty, which is 140 and 170.
iv never had a pc or laptop fail on me unless it happened right after i got the laptop which is covered anyway.
Just recieved the copy I ordered from market place.
I've read that I can use the serial on my system (which is 32 bit) and it will go through, but was wondering if it's worth it to go 64 bit.
I currently have about 11 games installed on my M1730, and only thing that's stopping me is all the game saves.
Is it worth spending the extra 25 bucks? Will you even notice much of a difference?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI know warranty is absolutely vital for notebooks, but is a large manufacturers warranty necessary for a desktop?
Usually the individual parts have their own warranty and you can replace defective and broken parts by yourself with the know-how (unless its a huge issue like a surge, etc) .....
I'm currently using a Dell inspiron 6400/E1505 notebook although i wish to upgrade to a studio 15 or 17 i cannot afford it at the moment i can however afford to upgrade the notebook i have a little bit more, the 2 upgrades i'm considering are,
Upgrading the RAM to 2 x 2gb (I spoke to someone on these forums a while ago about it and apparently it is possible) but i'm unsure if its worth it because i can't see anything that'll be different enough to warrant the upgrade .....
I'm deciding between the HP 8730w or the Dell M6400, and was wondering how solid the laptop feels, and if the early software quirks (like the sound breakage) have been resolved?
