I was trying to configure a very powerful system (Precision) but didn't want the crappy widescreen monitor, need ultrasharp as it's for graphics work, but there is no option to deselect or select ultrasharp.
Another annoyance was that for some reason it wouldn't let me select a second drive - no incompatibilty message, nothing.
I'm thinking of buying the SXPS 16 from Dell Hong Kong as my bro lives there and he should be able to bring it down within the next two months. Unfortunately the only screen available is:
16.0" Edge to Edge High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife(TM) Does anyone know the exact resolution of this. I've heard amazing things about the screen but I think this is has less resolution and not RGB?
Is it still worth getting? Will be used primarily for graphics editing, light gaming and Word/Excel. Thanks for any input.
never EVER doing business with these fools again, and I purchase machines for whole IT departments.

So I have been looking into something bigger than a 17' (yes i know im getting greedy as far as size) However Im not sure of the quality, performance and other things and was wondering if you guys could fill in the gaps.
Will be used for -Light gaming, but i definately want a low 'response time' -Watching movies -Browsing internet
My main questions are. -what is a good 'response time'?
Ive seen 2ms, 5ms as the lowest times and im guessing these times are more than reasonable for playin a few games.
-Will a 7900GS be strong enough to handle displaying a resolution of say 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 and play a game or two w/o any issues?
I want to replace my current hard drive which is 7200rpm 500gb seagate with SSD. Problem is on vista scoring chart there is either lower ranked ones or high ranked ones. obviously i want something higher ranked that my current Hard drive score of 5.9
Should I place the order for SXPS16 online or through a Dell agent ?
I had a chat with a agent today and asked, If he can give some discount on my online config ? He was ready to give discount of $50 on $1250 config and $75 on $1394 config ! Is it worth (means should I bargain more with him :-) ) and safe to place the order through the agent ?
Unfortunately till now there is no substantial discount offered from Dell for black Friday or holiday season
Is the GPU meltdown inevitable? Would i be able to avoid this ever happening with the copper mod? It would be for music and multimedia so the cooling set up i read about here sounds like it would handicap the laptop too much.
I'm trying to configure a laptop which has 14" 1440x900 display. Would like to get as much discounts as possible. How much is the employee discount? Is it stackable with the coupon codes found on the internet?
Also why isn't the Vostro 14" or inspiron 14" available anymore?
How is the screen on the Inspiron 13" ? I'm keen to buy the 13" but I think it'll be kinda small.
What is Dell's return policy? Just incase I dont like the laptop.
I'm planning on buying a refurb M4400 soon, and I'm wondering if the user community has any input for me. Are there any features I should make sure to get (backlit keyboard is good, I hear)? Are there any features I should be sure to avoid? Are there any problems commonly experienced that I should look out for once I get the system?
I haven't ordered it yet, but so far I think I'm looking at the T9400 cpu, 4GB RAM, FX770M gpu, CCFL WUXGA screen, ~250GB@7200RPM HD (could be 160GB or 320GB, depends on what's available). Up for debate still are 6 vs 9 cell battery, fingerprint reader (none, internal, FIPS), OS (if I can get 64-bit Vista Ultimate that'd be great, otherwise XP Pro w/ Vista Business license).
The intended usage here is software development (mostly Java, some C/C++) and gaming (Far Cry 2, CoD4/5, maybe Crysis?).
I am starting to research 15/-16" laptops and looking at the XPS - for my wife who is a photographer. She currently has an Inspiron 1720 but it's not performing for her so she wants to upgrade.
Plus she still has the PITA issue with Vista where her screen color calibrations are continually lost. I on the other hand have an Inspiron 1520 with an nVidia graphics card and once calibrated, my screen doesn't lose the settings.
So I wanted to get her a laptop with an nVidia card - but looking at the XPSs they all seem to have the ATI graphics card - only the old stock still has the nVidia cards.
Is the ATI comparable or better than the nVidia? Will it retain the calibration settings like the nVidia does? Is dell no longer bundlingg nVidia cards because of the problems I have read about (never had any myself).
I did not know about this Dell Outlet until I signed up here. The prices seem to be much lower than buying a new unit. I have my eye on a Dell M6400 unit..
So my question is, what are your experiences with a refurbished unit? By refurbished, are these units that have been rented out to businesses and returned? Will I be buying a 100% used unit? or does Dell replaces parts inside before selling them etc? Am I taking chances on these units or am I safe in terms of dependability?
