Dell :: Am I Taking A Big Risk Buying A Used M1330?
Feb 20, 2010
Is the GPU meltdown inevitable? Would i be able to avoid this ever happening with the copper mod? It would be for music and multimedia so the cooling set up i read about here sounds like it would handicap the laptop too much.

I read a while ago on here some posts about some copper mod because the chip had some flaws about cooling or something
If I play a game such as Left 4 Dead, will I run any risks of damaging the video card or motherboard?
I purchased the laptop mid october from Dell.

I am looking for your opinions. Check out this deal on ebay.
All the signs say not to buy but I have not had much experience with ebay.

I recently got my heatsink + motherboard replaced and noticed drastic improvements with my temperatures. My GPU is now idling at 60-65 C and when I am playing a game (Warhammer Online or Lord of the rings online) it is at 95-100 C.
Is that too hot and should I stop playing to risk damaging the video card?
Or is it fine? I can hear the fan going and I feel the hot air being blown out of the vent and cold air being sucked into the fan.

When I bought my notebook, Dell made me mark/check a box that said something like: "I'm not going to take the notebook out of the country".
And I want to know what happens if I do take it out of USA. I'm in the south border and I just need to cross the river to be in Mexico.
My laptop has a dead hard drive and I want to contact Dell and ask them to replace it, I bought a 3yr Total Care Warranty, but I'm affraid they will track me and find out I'm not in the USA. Will they void my warranty?
I was planning to contact them from Mexico, ask them to fix my laptop and then, I was going to go to USA and be there the day they tell me they are going to go and fix it.
I registered the laptop with my uncle's address, and I don't really want to go and bother him 2 or 3 days.
Should I contact Dell from the USA. Will something bad happen if I contact them from Mexico?

I was cleaning my computer and got it back together and had one of the HDD's die. I replaced it with a differany HDD, reformatted and installed the OS (Vista) but when I start it up the BIOS gets about 80% loaded and then next 20 takes 2-3 min. to load. It used to be much faster, within a matter of seconds. I tried reflashing the BIOS but that didn't change anything. Anyone have suggestions? Computer is the Inspiron 1720 in my sig.

I downloaded and ran a bios update for a 6000 (old laptop that i am reformatting).
It has been shutting down for over 4 hours now. No idea what to do. Should I manually turn it off and try the bios update again or will that screw things up at this point?......................

I'm trying to understand why my new Inspiron 15 7000 series takes so long to start after being put to sleep as I don't believe it should take this long.
The power settings are configured to go into sleep mode whenever the lid is closed or the power button is pressed. Â If, after closing the lid, I re-open the lid within a short space of time, the laptop bursts into life almost immediately. Â However, if it is left longer, then when opening the lid, nothing happens and I have to (briefly) press the power button. Â It then takes about 30 seconds for the windows desktop to appear. Â This is simply too long!
I've also noticed that if the laptop is left idle and it "powers off", which is set to sleep mode then it again takes about 30 seconds to resume when pressing the power button.
The laptop is running Windows 8.1 64 bit and has 8gb of RAM and an i7-4510U CPU.
I have a 5 year old Acer laptop running windows 7, which is faster at starting from hibernate mode than this Dell Inspiron, which suggests that the Dell is actually hibernating, however none of the power settings are set for it to do this.
How to get this Dell Inspiron to start in a reasonable time from sleep mode as 30 seconds is not acceptable.

Here is the thing, I only have used 285gb of 500gb on my internal hard drive. I got myself a new 500Gb external hd as a time machine.
However, when I go to the time machine' options it says: Total included: 503.1gb
How can a backup be bigger than my internal hd?

I am having a problem whereby it takes ages for my caps lock to go from capital letters back to normal & vice versa.
The little bag with the A coms on then you have to wait a few seconds for it to click off then you can start to type again.
I had this problem when I first got the laptop & it rectify itself but now the dreaded thing is back again, as I remember it was a problem as I remember someone mentioning something about the same problem before.
Either email or office its still the same. I am forever using the shift button to get around this problem...

I close my lid and the apple logo takes about 4 seconds until is shuts off and another 30 seconds until the light starts to fade in and out. I've shut the lid of another macbook at an apple shop and they go to sleep instantly.

I got my Ideapad y410p a week ago. It came with Windows 8 and many useless softwares installed. It was taking around 3 minutes of time and immediately i updated my os to 8.1 (x64). Even after updating to 8.1, the boot time didn't get any better. I unistalled useless softwares like Mcafee, Cyberlink tools and many and installed AntiVir and Visual Studio. Turn on Fast startup is also enabled. But what is painful is it still takes 2 minutes and 31 seconds plus to load my desktop. What is more painful to me is My old laptop (Amd Dual Core, 3GB Ram with Many softwares installed with windows 7) loads earlier than this.

Alright, so early January this year I got myself a Y510P. I bought this cause I already knew I'd be transitioning to different locations and that a desktop wasn't going to be practical. I intended to work with on school, watch movies, game, etc. All of these went perfectly fine
Â
At the end of January I studied abroad till the end of April. During this time I rarely had time to do a lot with my laptop as I was quite occupied with school and social life around it. The few times I did use it for things like watching a movie or play a small game were fine. Anyway, when I came back home in the Netherlands, I noticed that it had slowed down considerably. It tends to take long with simple tasks and unfortunately gaming has become something I can't do anymore, hell, in online games I get called 'wooden pc guy'. Obviously I'm not very happy with my laptop feeling like a machine from '98.Â
Â
I tried cleaning out my disk, defragging, registry cleaning, scanning for viruses, etc. Nothing works, I want to reinstall my OS to see if it might work, but when I ordered my laptop, I never received an install disk for Windows 8 with it....

I was trying to configure a very powerful system (Precision) but didn't want the crappy widescreen monitor, need ultrasharp as it's for graphics work, but there is no option to deselect or select ultrasharp.
Another annoyance was that for some reason it wouldn't let me select a second drive - no incompatibilty message, nothing.

I'm thinking of buying the SXPS 16 from Dell Hong Kong as my bro lives there and he should be able to bring it down within the next two months. Unfortunately the only screen available is:
16.0" Edge to Edge High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife(TM)
Does anyone know the exact resolution of this. I've heard amazing things about the screen but I think this is has less resolution and not RGB?
Is it still worth getting? Will be used primarily for graphics editing, light gaming and Word/Excel.
Thanks for any input.

Until recently my Aspire M3802 desktop started immediately when the start button was pressed. For about a week it's been taking an increasing number of minutes before the the LED turns blue; today it was over ten. What is the likely problem? If accumulated dust how can I remove it? If not dust, what can I do?

I'm interested in buying a good portable notebook and the E4300 is one of the main contenders because of the solid build, good batterly life and its weight and size
So I've been reading many mixed reviews about the latitude e4300 where many people thought it didn't live up to what you would expect from a premium business notebook with a premium price.

So I have been looking into something bigger than a 17' (yes i know im getting greedy as far as size) However Im not sure of the quality, performance and other things and was wondering if you guys could fill in the gaps.
Will be used for
-Light gaming, but i definately want a low 'response time'
-Watching movies
-Browsing internet
My main questions are.
-what is a good 'response time'?
Ive seen 2ms, 5ms as the lowest times and im guessing these times are more than reasonable for playin a few games.
-Will a 7900GS be strong enough to handle displaying a resolution of say 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 and play a game or two w/o any issues?

I've been watching for a long time the XPS M1530 line and now I'm almost 99.99% decided finaly get mine. ( the laptop will be purchased in Romania ).
However, I have some small questions if anyone can help me.
First, the model I choose is http://www.emag.ro/notebook_laptop/n...NBKDLLIXPS0054
If anyone looks at the price, it's about $1364.
The use is for programming, some web design, and a little gaming (world of warcraft mostly).
1. Can hardware acceleration be used on the secondary monitor? Meaning that if I attach a second screen, can I have 3d full screen acceleration on it instead on the primary laptop display .....

i need ur advice if i should get 200gb 7200 rpm or stay with the 320gb 5400?
