Jan 27, 2015I have an Acer Aspire V3-771G which I got in 2013. I've had no battery problems before. Earlier this month I noticed that the orange charging light remained on longer than usual. I turned my computer on and noticed that it said that the battery was 98% charged and charging.I have not done the procedure of discharging and recharging the battery three times as mentioned in the manual.
I have not removed the battery since I first installed it (it came with the computer). I don't normally use the laptop on battery power unless it happens to be on during a power outage.I would like to know if I need a new battery or not, as I am concerned as to if the laptop will be continuously trying to fully charge the battery thus wearing it out prematurely.The computer came with Windows 8. I have installed Windows 8.1.
Dell Latitude D630 :: Powers But Will Not Charge The Battery
Jan 23, 2013Dell Latitude D630.... I bought a new battery about 2 months back (had the old one for a good 6 years before it finally bit the dust) and I've had no problems with it. The test button still shows all 5 bright and green. I recently replaced my adapter because it was getting old (almost 3 years) and it stopped charging since part of it's wires were frayed. The new adapter is not charging my computer.
It's Dell made so it shouldn't have a problem with the no-charge chip put in and it's New, not refurbished. I've tried different outlets, restarting computer, updating BIOS, checking battery, and lots of fun stuff in between.
I'm at a loss of what to do because without it charging it, I may as well have just stuck to my old one and saved the money. I'd rather have this issue fixed than never use my battery ever.
Dell :: Studio 1640 XPS Won't Charge Past 90%
May 10, 2009I have a new studio XPS 1640, and I've noticed I cant get it to charge past 90% charge...
In the battery settings it says that there is like 3 hrs left to full charge..
Please let me know if there is a fix for this, I've only used the system like 3 times and it is brand new. I have to most updated Bios as well.

Apr 21, 2009I've had my laptop for only 2 weeks (I bought it brand new), and I've never had this problem before. Starting today, my battery wouldn't charge past 82%. It charges fine until it reaches 82%.
Then, it just suddenly stops charging. After looking at an advanced battery monitor, I saw that the charge rate after hitting 82% was 0 mW (no charge...). Is this a battery monitor calibration problem? Or a battery problem? I've only had my laptop for 2 weeks...

Dec 18, 2014Starting last week my laptop has been experience some battery issues. I noticed first that when it got to around 25 or 30% battery, it would suddenly go into sleep mode (at least, that's what I think it's doing. When I plug it in and turn it back on, the HP loading screen appears, but everything else returns to exactly how it was). Once back on, the battery has been reduced to 1%.
Also, it won't charge past certain percentages, which are gretting progressively lower. At first it was 98%, then 93%, and at the moment 35%. It will say that it is charging, however.
When I use HP Support Assistant, my battery displays as "Okay". My friend used a program that drained my battery as fast as it could (I can't remember what that type of program is called) and I think he said that it did it in about 25 minutes or so, which is expected of a laptop of this age (about a year and a half old).
Dell :: Quadro NVS140M And Latitude D830
Oct 2, 2008I'm starting to get some weird video symptoms on my Latitude D830 with the Nvidia Quadro NVS140M video. Fairly random at this point, maybe once or twice a week, the screen does something weird in terms of displaying stuff that it completely shouldn't, even during boot-up.
Don't know if this chip is a member of the family of Nvidia chips that suffers from the bugs, but has anyone else experienced this with a heavily-used Latitude D830 yet?
If I have to get a new motherboard, has Nvidia actually implemented a solution, or are they still shipping the same parts? I have ~3 years of warranty left (plus the bonus year), but I don't look forward to a motherboard replacement every year or so.

I know its a generation newer than my laptop but the interface is the same so it should work without any issues, right?
Im basically looking for a wireless g stable, low power, wlan card that will work with this laptop and think the wifi link 5300 may fit the bill.

I've been using Dell Inspiron for more than 3 years. It had a nice touchpad driver with which i could assign shortcuts to all the four corners of touchpad (e.g., Maximizing a window, minimizing, closing, and running a special application etc.). Now i m used to those shortcuts but they are not available in the new drivers of Dell Latitude D830, that i recently got. Can anybody point to the D830 touchpad driver having this facility or any free third party utility for that?

Apr 28, 2009I just got a new Dell Precision M4300 here in Israel (refurbished, not directly from Dell) with the following configuration:
CPU: Core 2 Extreme X9000
LCD: 15.4" WUXGA
Graphics: Quadro NVS 140M (apparently)
HDD: 160GB SATA 7200RPM
My question is as follows:
It in fact says Precision M4300 on the front of the laptop near the keyboard,
But when I turn it on it identifies itself as a Latitude D830.
I bought the laptop thinking I was getting a Quadro FX360M (it is CAD certified which is important to me as I work with their program).
What is going on? was I fooled in some way?
If I apply the latest M4300 BIOS update will it change the names of the laptop model and the graphics card?

Nov 18, 2012I've got an E6400 that got crushed and an almost unused D830. I want to cannibalize the E6400 and install it in 1.8 MHz 512 MB D830. I've zeroed the SSD, checked the processor and RAM and was wondering if it is possible to use a 1066 MHz FSB processor in an 800 FSB system,if it would recognize the 800 MHz memory and if there is a BIOS modification to allow the SSD to work to it's potential?

They are mostly identical, but with two exceptions.
1. One has a but faster processor than the other.
2. One used shared memory for the video (Intel Driver) and the other has an nVidia Quadro video card with respective driver.
I would like to be able to swap the hard disks between the two computer.
My question is, can I install both sets of drivers and assume the respective computer will know what to do?

Mar 27, 2013Windows 7 32-bit upgrade CD (not SP1), from XP. no anti-virus yet. Windows Updates current to SP1.I have always had my DELL mouse plugged in to rear port, but for unknown reasons it is now dead to all USB devices?
Mouse is now recognized by side USB port, but I like to keep them free for bulky flash drives..I tried uninstalling all ports/refresh from Device Manager, but rear port is still dead to all USB devices.I then tried a repair install from desktop, but still dead (1st time HD light flashed for 1sec, then nothing from then on).
Dell :: Latitude E5510 Won't Load Past Boot Menu
Apr 25, 2012I own a Dell Latitude E5510. I *love* this laptop.
However, today I started having a problem with it. The laptop turned off suddenly. When I went to turn it back on, it began to load as usual with the following things on the screen:
1. the circular logo in the center of the screen.
2. the "press f12 for boot menu" thing in the top right corner.
3. the blue loading bar beneath the circular logo in the center.
What happens is the blue bar fills up, but then the screen goes black. It doesn't just instantly go black though. It starts from the top of the screen and moves to the bottom. It does the same thing when I press f12 to get into the boot menu.
Dell Latitude D830 :: Can Enter BIOS But Settings Are Locked With Password
Dec 9, 2013Recently I purchased a Dell Latitude D830 motherboard as a replacement for the damaged one in my own system.
The seller didn't tell me that the system has a customized bios and a password, instead he announced it as 'password free'. The board is working and I can enter the BIOS but all settings are locked with a password.
As the seller refuses to take it back, I need to reset the system. The first owner of the board is known and I have the service tag ready. Is there any chance to reflash an original DELL BIOS and to reset the password(s)?

Feb 14, 2013About a week ago, the (external) screen of my dell lattitude D830 went completely black. I hadn't got a clue wat to do, so I waited a while, and when nothing happened I turned off the computer. I've been googling for a while, and found something about POST-codes here [URL] ..... apparently the video-card doesn't work anymore (If I start the computer with FN+power, Num and Caps flash, and Scroll burns permanently). Lucky for me my Dell was old, and I had recently replaced it, but I still wanted to use my old computer for rendering etcera. Would this still be possible? I have the idea that the computer doesn't boot anymore (I can't see whether that's true, since there's no screen). Would it be possible to make it boot again, so that I can use my old Dell on a network?

Jan 28, 2010One of my users brought me this issue the other day. He is using a Latitude D830 laptop with a D/port docking station. With or without the laptop docked, The power button on the docking station flashes Orange and Green when powered. I've swapped power bricks for the dock. The laptop still seems to charge while being docked. After swapping the dock, the new dock is fine.
What might be causing it? Is the dock dead? Could it be a failed port on the docking station?

Jun 19, 2012I have a Dell Latitude E6500 that I have been using for quite a long time. Recently it started acting up, and now it won't start up past the Dell logo. It simply goes to a black screen with a flashing dash. I've restarted it a few times, tried pushing F8, and gone into F12. I tried the Diagnostics through F12, but it takes an extremely long time and has never finished so far. I tried it again this morning, and periodically throughout the test a message like this has shown up:
Error Code 0123. Msg: Error Code 2000-0123 Msg: Memory - integrity test failed. The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support to diagnose problem. Do you want to continue testing?

I'm not sure what exactly this means, but it keeps popping up. I would like to get through to start up my computer all the way, but that doesn't seem to be an option. Is there anyway for me to wipe it without F8? My cd slot won't open, and I don't have disks anyways. Is it possible to fix it via USB drives? Or F12?

Is it normal for a six year old notebook battery to not hold a charge, even if it's never really been used, and has just been plugged into power (or shut down) constantly throughout the bulk of that time?

Nov 27, 2012who has an E6530 with BIOS rev A07 test to see if the 'Custom' charging mode functions properly via the Battery Information application that is installed with the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack ? The Battery Information application worked properly prior to the A07 update.To test:
1) Reboot
2) At the DELL logo press F12
3) Select 'BIOS Setup' from the pre-boot menu
4) Select Power Management, then select the 'Primery Battery Charge Configuration'
5) Select the 'Custom' option (Write down which option is selected before you make the selection so you can restore this setting later)
6) Set the 'Custom Charge Start' value (e.g. 50, NOTE the BIOS will not allow a value less than 50)
7) Set the 'Custom Charge Stop' value (e.g. 75, NOTE: the BIOS requires this value be 5 greater than the 'Start' value)
8) Click 'Apply', then click 'Exit' and let the system boot into Windows
9) Launch the Battery Information application by performing the following steps:
9.1) Press the 'Windows' key
9.2) In the 'Search Program Files' search box type: 'Dell Battery Information'
9.3) Click on the 'Dell Battery Information' link in the search results
10) When the Battery Information applications starts, verify that the Charge mode displays 'Custom' (see figure )
11) Click on the 'Change Setting' button
12) Verify that the 'Custom' mode is not listed (see figure)
13) Verify that the 'Start' and 'Stop' values which are set in BIOS are NOT correctly displayed, and that you are unable to change the 'Start' and 'Stop' values.
14) Restore your charge configuration by selecting the Charge mode you wrote down in step 5
15) Click save

Mar 10, 2010I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. The 6-cell battery that came with it stopped holding its charge, so I bought a new 9-cell battery. Now that one won't hold a charge. I figured it must be the cord, so I bought a new one. It still won't hold a charge. When I run my mouse over the battery icon, it says XX% (currently 37%) available (plugged in, not charging). I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but not enough to figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help me trouble shoot?

Nov 4, 2009This seems to happen fairly often. Yesterday I had my computer on standby and plugged into the mains for several hours in the afternoon. I turned it on, shut it down (without looking at the battery status) and went somewhere and when I turned it back on the charge was at 6%.
Today I was using the laptop and the charge was at 70%, I shut the computer down and put it in my bag. Turned it on again in a couple of hours and the battery again is at 6%.

Jan 2, 2009My initial thoughts were that I had a battery issue the Ion battery. So I went to dell and purchased a new battery 2 weeks ago. Plugged that guy in and my theory was a bust.
Next, I turned to the ac adapter and decided it must be the problem. Back to dell to drop some more $$$ - just arrived and...well, let's just say I wouldn't be writing to this post if that solved my problem. I have surfed through various other posting will no avail.
The laptop can run fine on just the ac power - just no juice is getting to the battery to recharge it. I went into the BIOS set-up and it stated that it did not recognize the ac adapter -
can't figure why that may be the case, but none of the less I've got nothing but Dell products here - no knock-offs. Any suggestions or theories? I just can't believe I could have a bad motherboard here - the laptop works great otherwise.
