I recently replaced the inverter in my Dell Xps M1530 laptop. I bought the inverter off ebay, and the listing said it was compatible for my laptop.
My problem is,
that since I replaced the inverter (screen looks great by the way), the brightness controls no longer do anything. The laptop is on constant highest brightness. If I use the Fn Up and Down arrows,
the brightness bar comes up on the bottom right of the screen and it actually moves left and right in line with what I am telling it to do, but the screen brightness doesn't change! I have tried going in to the power settings and display settings
Ive recently had my laptop repaired after it got wet and the replaced the screen and everything, but since i have had it back the FN and brightness buttons do not work, nor does the brightness controls work via BIOS settings, also when the laptop goes into sleep mode or the lid is closed, the screen stays on bright white instead of going off.
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and the screen was going on it so I bought a replacement screen off of eBay. It didn't come with an inverter so I used the existing one.
The new display works great, but now the brightness settings are reversed. Turning up the brightness in the BIOS makes the screen dimmer and vice-versa.
I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 on my SZ5. Was surprised at how much works out of the box (fingerprint sensor, drivers etc) but the one glaring bug I found is that when I close the lid and the monitor shuts off, when I reopen it the brightness controls (FN+F5 and FN+F6) no longer work.
I also notice that the brightness controls in Windows' power options Control Panel disappears.
I need to restart my computer to resolve this (similar problems by other users: Sony Vaio SZ1XP - Windows 7 RC ). Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!
I just tonight noticed that the F5/F6 keys do not work after the machine wakes from sleep. It works fine after I reboot. But after sleep the OSD will show up when I hit F5 or F6. The display gauge will move to the left TWO positions when I hit F5 but only once. If I hit F5 again, nothing happens. If I hit F6 it moves to the right TWO positions again only one time. In both cases there is NO change to brightness.
I tried to log off and back on to see if it has any effect. It did not. I'll reboot now and the hibernate to see if the problem recurs coming out of hibernation.
I am running Win7 ultimate 32 bit.
UPDATE: Well this is strange. I rebooted and the F5/F6 keys worked fine of course. I hibernated and then came back out and they still worked fine. I logged off and back on and again they were fine. So this seems to be ONLY a sleep issue.
If any of you have an FZ model running Win7 32 bit. Can you try this and report your findings?
I've recently installed Windows 7 x64 build 7229 on my Vaio and I've managed to get everything working except for the screen brightness controls.
So far I've installed the x64 version of SFEP driver along with Vista versions of Sony utilities dll, sony shared library, sony event service and sony settings utility.
Installing the xp versions of those programs made the brightness control work fine, but on Windows 7, the screen brightness control pops up on the screen but the brightness doesn't change. Also I've read that I should be able to control the brightness in the Windows mobility manager, but there is nothing there about screen brightness.
The screen running at full brightness is hurting my eyes.
I just bought my laptop. Installed Windows 7 clean 64bit on it.This is the laptop's product page. I can't change the brightness of my laptop's screen. I can't do via the [Fn+Up/Down] combo nor by the Windows Power Options interface.
I tried all combos of installing and uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Management. (I got v7.0.4.1 on my laptop).I tried un and installing Intel HD 4000 (Driver v8.15.10.2696). I get Lenovo ACPIVPC v7.1.0.1 (12/15/2011) when installing the energy management thing.I've tried to install as least as possible other Lenovo crapware.
I have a thinkpad l520 5016-c74 running windows 7 64bit and kubuntu 13.04.
When i try to adlust the brightness in kubuntu, the jotkeys work just fine.
On the other hand, in windows, i can adjust the brightness from the windows menu, but every time i hit Fn+home or delete (this is the hotkey on my machine) the brightness, regardless of where it is set, drops to 7 (from a scale of 1-15), and cannot be readjusted, If i hit again Fn+Home or Delete, it does this flash, like it's trying to change the brightness, but something holds it in 7. I can always change it from the windows menu. But again the same thing, hotkey and back to 7.
The brightness control keys (f2 & f3) on my pavilion dm4 stopped working all of a sudden. I'm operating windows 7 64bit. I've tried reverting to previous system restore points. I've also installed the BIOS, Intel chipset, and graphics drivers. All the other function keys are working properly, just can't change the brightness. Right now it's stuck on the brightest setting. I'm getting terrible eye strain from the screen.
just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread. I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.
I've currently installed (in this order) SPEF SonyPI Shared Library SonyUtils DLL Event Service The Registry Patch NVIDIA Drivers
They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.
I used the upgrade kit from Acer to do a clean install of Windows 7 to my Timeline 1410. Everything works great and I love this laptop... except that the brightness controls (Fn+Left/Right Arrow) do not work. It's locked at highest brightness.
I am at my wit's end trying to figure this out.
I have installed all the Win 7 drivers from Acer's site, particularly
When I first boot it up, the brightness controls work fine during the BIOS steps. But once Windows takes over, the controls no longer function. In the Windows Mobility Center, there is no brightness control panel. [FWIW, my Dell, which does have functional brightness control, doesn't show one either.] All other Fn-combinations, like volume control, work fine.
what does actually control the fan speed? Is it CPU temp? Is it a collection of the hot sync temp? I am just curious cause I have started using smc fan control so that when I video chat or watch a movie or something, I can run the computer cooler (I believe it will help the longevity of it, could be wrong on that but it is piece of mind for me) anyway. I had it running about 3200rpm (uMB here) and watching the temps occasionally and was noting the times it would kick up didn't neccessarly correspond to any particular temp...
I guess my question is what does the fan in a uMB neccessarly cool and what does the computer watch to control the fan? Also, what temps (in degree F) should I strive to keep my computer around?
ive being having problems with make the remote control or the touch-sensitive control to work with any program other than MCE. What im looking for is them to work within other programs like VLC, foobar(winamp/itunes). the detail here is that those programs needs to be running in background
I cannot locate the Touch pad controls on my laptop. I've gone through the owners manual, (no such "touchpad tab" in the mouse menu, and cannot locate any "touchpad" in control panel settings.
Are there drivers or software that are needed for the Touch-Sensitive Multimedia Controls? I re-installed Windows 7 (for a cleaner start!).All of the Touch-Sensitive keys work but the CD/DVD eject.... will only work as Laptop is booting (but not in Windows).Other programs in Windows will eject the CD..
Anyways, can you disable the touch sensitive controls above the keyboard on this laptop? I have to use the F1-F10 buttons very often in an online game I play, and sometimes accidentally slide a finger over the WiFi touch sensitive button which immediately disables my internet connection so I get disconnected from my game. Very annoying if you have been playing for a while and accidentally touch that thing without being able to get to a save zone.
As for the other buttons besides the WiFi one, if I accidentally touch those, my game gets minimized and I have to wait for the HP Info Center window to load up before I can get back into my game, which by that time my character is already dead.
I looked around sites found with google and couldn't find anything. I never use the touch sensitive buttons besides the volume one (which is rarely used too and could do without if getting rid of the WiFi touch sensitive button means getting rid of all the touch sensitive buttons).
I have been unable to find the controls of the Webcam. Is the software already installed or do I have to download it? If so, what do I download and where do I find it?
I've bought Lenovo M490s notebook one week ago without OS. I've installed Windows 7 Professional x64 retail.First of all I could not find software that controls Function keys. After installing every driver and software from support page (M490s) my function keys just doesnt work except Fn+F1 sleep, Fn+F2 turn off the screen, Fn+F6 disable touchpad and play buttons. Also no information was displaying on the screen after pressing such buttons - no volume and brightness level.
After doing some research I've found and installed Hotkey Features Integration from Lenovo M490 (without S) support page. Every function key is started to work, information on the screen also begin to display (volume and brightness level). Now I spotted a huge problem, after 3 or 4 hibernation volume and brightness keys (fn+up,down, left, right) just stopping to work!!! Fn+F1-F12 combinations are working normal. Then after reboot brightness and volume keys are working again!!
Under Control Panel, Sound, Speakers and Headphones Properties, Tone Controls Tab, the Apply Button is grayed out for my Bass/Treble settings which reset to 4 every time my PC restarts if I change them. I cannot set the Bass/Treble levels permanently where I want them (Bass - 4 and Treble - 0) because the Apply Button does not work. I have two identical models of this PC with the same problem - both HP Pavilion dv6-7138us with Beats Audio and AMD cpu. Can the Apply Button be fixed? The Beats Audio Control GUI (also in Control Panel) has Bass and Treble settings that remain where set.Perhaps Beats is overriding Sound in Control Panel? I have a boxed Windows 7 32-bit installed on another PC and Sound has different control options - no Beats Audio. I would think if Beats modifies Sound controls in Control Panel, those controls should work. Otherwise, the modified Sound controls would not be there unless they are there in case Beats Audio is uninstalled or disabled? I see no way to uninstall or disable and have no desire to uninstall. IDT Audio is listed in Programs and Features.
I have an HP Envy Ultrabook 4-1130us and the F6, F7, and F8 buttons aren't working as command controls for music anymore. All my other F1-F12 buttons work except those three. This has happened before and I thought it was due to iTunes not being updated. I updated iTunes and the buttons still aren't working. I ran a diagnostic test on my keyboard and the test says that nothing is wrong-which is partially true because every other button except F6, F7, and F8 are working.
Sony Viao (NW series at least) have a quick boot feature for access to the internet without fireing up your operating system. Hit the special quick access button and away you go.
Guess what, if it is a computer for your child you cant even turn the button off or set it with a password. It resides on your motherboard any parental controls mcafee or otherwise are useless. The system for the quick access is by devicevm and is called splashtop.
how to control this, keep in mind this runs straight off the motherboard and windows is not fired up.
So I turn the brightness as low as it goes and finish up as quietly and quickly as I can but when there's a white background it's still kind of bright and I was just wondering if there was a way to turn down the brightness on the display even lower than what the power options let me do
i just bought a 1537 with the wxga LG Led screen. i cant use this laptop without getting a headache. The screen is toooooooooo bright even turned down as well as adjusting the ati settings of gamma and brightness. its always to bright and strains my eyes.
I am trying to detemine whether I have an LED WUXGA screen and i got some good info from jet757f in another thread that said that LED screens have 15 brightness steps and that CCFL have only 7 brightness steps.
listing:
screen resolution: LED /CCFL: # of brightness settings: panel model:
MINE ARE: screen resolution: 1920 x 1200 LED /CCFL: ? # of brightness settings: 15 panel model: LGD0135
I have a problem with the LCD brightness...the LCD is very dim most the time (regardless of adapter or not)
Everytime I restart, the brightness is back to normal until window has finished loading, and then the brightness of the screen will suddenly dim alot and will continue to be dim until I restart again. I tried to edit this using power management but it does not work.
I also tried to adjust the brightness by pressing Fn and up arrow but the brightness is already set to max. The problem is that the brightness is correct on boot up but does not sustain that brightness after loaded.
