Lenovo G580 B / G Series :: Brightness Controls Not Working

Aug 27, 2012

I just bought my laptop. Installed Windows 7 clean 64bit on it.This is the laptop's product page. I can't change the brightness of my laptop's screen. I can't do via the [Fn+Up/Down] combo nor by the Windows Power Options interface.

I tried all combos of installing and uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Management. (I got v7.0.4.1 on my laptop).I tried un and installing Intel HD 4000 (Driver v8.15.10.2696). I get Lenovo ACPIVPC v7.1.0.1 (12/15/2011) when installing the energy management thing.I've tried to install as least as possible other Lenovo crapware.

Lenovo ThinkPad L R/SL :: L520 Brightness Controls Not Working?

Aug 26, 2013

I have a thinkpad l520 5016-c74 running windows 7 64bit and kubuntu 13.04.

When i try to adlust the brightness in kubuntu, the jotkeys work just fine.

On the other hand, in windows, i can adjust the brightness from the windows menu, but every time i hit Fn+home or delete (this is the hotkey on my machine) the brightness, regardless of where it is set, drops to 7 (from a scale of 1-15), and cannot be readjusted, If i hit again Fn+Home or Delete, it does this flash, like it's trying to change the brightness, but something holds it in 7. I can always change it from the windows menu. But again the same thing, hotkey and back to 7.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 With Windows 8 - Keyboard Not Working

May 22, 2013

After entering the initial request for password (successfully), the keyboard is non-functional.  With the exception of the windows scroll key, no other keys work.  Logic suggests that this is a driver problem.  The question is which driver?

BTW, looking at the driver manager, it says that the keyboard driver is a standard PS2 keyboard from Microsoft, dated 6/21/2006, version 6.2.9200.16548.  Can this be?

Sony :: FE31H Brightness Controls Not Working With Windows 7 X64

Jun 21, 2009

I've recently installed Windows 7 x64 build 7229 on my Vaio and I've managed to get everything working except for the screen brightness controls.

So far I've installed the x64 version of SFEP driver along with Vista versions of Sony utilities dll, sony shared library, sony event service and sony settings utility.

Installing the xp versions of those programs made the brightness control work fine, but on Windows 7, the screen brightness control pops up on the screen but the brightness doesn't change. Also I've read that I should be able to control the brightness in the Windows mobility manager, but there is nothing there about screen brightness.

The screen running at full brightness is hurting my eyes.

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y510p With Windows 8.1 Brightness Slider Not Working

Feb 14, 2014

I will keep this short, I have a Lenovo ideapad y510p with Windows 8.1 (I got it with 8.1, did not upgrade from 8) . I noticed a problem yesterday, where I cannot adjust the screen brightness. If I use the keyboard commands (Fn + Up and Fn + Down) The slider appears on the top left of the screen, as always, but does not “slide” It stays static.

If I move the slider on the Setting menu, I can slide the value but the brightness does not change and the value is not reflected on the slider on the top left of the screen.

I am not sure when this happened for the first time.

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X120e Funtion Keys For Brightness Not Working?

Mar 29, 2011

I just got the x120e and I already went through and fixed it auto-brightening itself. After I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted it to my preference. It was not on the charger when I did that and I was in a darker room so I had the brightness down lower. Later on in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness is not changing however. All the oher Fn + F keys are working. Just not the two for brightness. The weird thing is, I shut the computer, waited for it to enter sleep mode then opened it up again and it was really bright and I had to pretty much squint, but again the keys were not working to lower it. I closed it again and opened it and it is again dimmer. The keys still aren't working.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 - Display Brightness Keys Not Working / Audio Channel Commutation Gets Stuck

May 27, 2014

I've got 2 separate but really annoying issues with my W540 20BH:

- display brightness keys not working: when waking up from Hibernation mode, sometimer (really, randomly!) the display brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) don't work.... either if the display brightness is stuck on max, min or an intermediate level...Is there a way to shut down and restart the process which commands the Fn keys?

- audio channel commutation gets stuck. Normal behaviour of the audio configuration is:
1) speaker volume disabled, mic disabled
2) when plugging in a 4-pin headset, headset's volume is on, headset's mic is switched on; speaker volume is still disables.
3) when unplugging the headset, speakers' volume is still 0

After each boot, the audio channel is at 0, but doesn't commute to the headset when plugged in! I have to open Configuration Panel, realtek properties. With this window open, unplug and re-plug the headset. Now, the volume has its normal behaviour.

Any better way to configure audio channels and evenments, which is able to bypass realtek's manager?

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 Won't Shut Down Properly

Dec 3, 2009

My B570 seems to have developed an odd issue.

Basically it won't shut down or reboot nicely anymore.

I noticed it today when I decided to do a clean install of Windows 8.1. It freezes on the last part of the install (where it reboots) - I manually cut the power by holding the power button. Turn it back on and it and it loads up Windows as usual.

But then when I try to shut it down or reboot from within Windows, the laptop just seems to stall at some point and never finish - Literally forcing me to manually power it down whenever I'm done with it.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 OneKey Rescue Won't Start

Dec 29, 2013

My friend has a Lenova G580. She said Windows wouldn't boot and gave it to me to fix.

I confirmed that windows does not boot in normal mode, safe mode, or recovery mode using any of the boot options for Windows. It will either sit at a black screen (it looks like it's almost at the GUI) or reboot if in safe mode before it gets to that point.

So after discussion we decided to whipe the machine using the Lenovo OneKey Rescue system. I hit the Lenovo OneKey button next to the power button.

It spends a couple minutes booting and I get the green grass background that looks like this one for version 7 but it will just sit there for a day without ever loading the the app. No mouse, no windows. Just the brackground image.

What the problem might be for this system? Restoring to factory settings was the last resort and I am alarmed to see this is not working on this ~2 year old system.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 BIOS Setup Not Starting

Sep 7, 2013

I've a Lenovo G580 Laptop (2nd Gen PDC B960, 2 GB, 500 GB, DOS) When I bought it came pre-installed DOS, and then I install Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit, i didn't know at that time, 2nd gen PDC are 64-bit). My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually,I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem.

I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)

I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.

and then I restart my laptop, then I press F2, it shows the first screen of BIOS menu, but my system stuck there (unresponsive state), i've no option else directly turning it off by holding power key for few seconds,..

and then no boot menu F2, F12 still unresponsive.

means whenever i open recovery module it able to open F2 menu (not F12) but that stuck too.else it just completely ignore F2, F12 I'm not a computer noob (not flaunting), but I spend last 4-5 hours looking for a solution for it, but couldn't find any solution by myself.

although my laptop is not in not working state. somehow I manage to install windows 8, but it's really weird that I can not access BIOS menu, my laptop is no longer in warranty period so I can experiment with it any way I want.

in short, the battery is getting detected but is not charging or working anymore.

At first i thought it was some software/driver problem but  then, i checked the Lenovo "Energy Management" tool and found that it was showing the battery status "Destroyed" (Screenshot below.)

Lenovo M490 C/E/K/M/N/V Series :: Could Not Find Software That Controls Function Keys

Dec 22, 2013

I've bought Lenovo M490s notebook one week ago without OS. I've installed Windows 7 Professional x64 retail.First of all I could not find software that controls Function keys. After installing every driver and software from support page (M490s) my function keys just doesnt work except Fn+F1 sleep, Fn+F2 turn off the screen, Fn+F6 disable touchpad and play buttons. Also no information was displaying on the screen after pressing such buttons - no volume and brightness level.

After doing some research I've found and installed Hotkey Features Integration from Lenovo M490 (without S) support page. Every function key is started to work, information on the screen also begin to display (volume and brightness level).Now I spotted a huge problem, after 3 or 4 hibernation volume and brightness keys (fn+up,down,left,right) just stopping to work!!! Fn+F1-F12 combinations are working normal. Then after reboot brightness and volume keys are working again!!

Sony :: SZ Brightness Controls In Windows 7?

I also notice that the brightness controls in Windows' power options Control Panel disappears.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 Keyboard Not Functioning After Windows 8.1 Update

My wife just updated her G580 with the Windows 8.1 update.  Afterwards, the keyboard does not function - no keys respond when trying to sign into the computer, the touch pad does not work (USB mouse does), even the Onekey Rescue System button does not work.  The only thing that seems to work is the power button.

I restarted the computer and held down the F2 key and was able to get into the Setup Utility where the keys did function (arrow keys, F1, F2, esc, enter).  I didn't see anything obvious to me that might work.  Exiting the utility and back at the sign on screen the keys don't function again.

what might be the cause or a way to recover the keyboard?

Lenovo B / G Series :: G580 Suddenly Stopped Booting Into Windows

Nov 5, 2012

My G580 suddenly stopped booting into Windows.

The first black screen with the Microsoft logo loads but afterwards I just get stuck in a black screen with the cursor which I can move around but nothing more.

So, my solution was to get into Safe Mode. Unfortunately although I don't have a password when Win7 boot, I'm asked for one in Safe Mode. The thing is neither the keyboard, nor the touchpad work so I cannot get past the login screen.

The keyboard works perfectly in BIOS, but not in the Windows login screen for Safe Mode.
