Dell :: M1710 SYSTEM_ERROR, Require Service L2 Cache
Dec 18, 2007
my screen has been "glitching" scrambling for a second then might be ok for a hour or so... no biggie. Anyway I rang XPS support today and ran the diag disc and the memory test came up with this: SYSTEM_ERROR, Require Service SERVICE_GET_L2_CACHE_SIZE not found.... This test was done under the Data bus Stress test... I have pulled the mem modules but still getting the error.. Have run the CPU test all came up ok... Still under warranty...
Wats up everyone,i was just wondering,if any one could give me feedback on what difference performance wise 6mb cache(with 2.80GHz) would make on the Studio Xps 16(or any laptop for that matter) Versus the 3mb that comes with the 2.4GHZ? thanks in advance
I have got both 64 bit & 32 bit each burned to a bootable disc. But, before I even try, do I need some type of a product key to play around with the public release beta?
I just purchased a new E545, which has the unusual keyboard layout that I like -- the Control key inside of the special Fn key. Of course, it seems Lenovo has gone and switched the way the function keys operate so that now you have to press the Fn key to get the F-keys. Â How can I swap the function keys operation so that I need the Fn key to operate the PC and media controls?
I own an HDX16T. Day 1, I burnt RECOVERY DISKS and then I proceeded with a clean install with a new vista install.
I decided to try to restore the notebook with those recovery disks. Guess what? It appears that you can no longer use those disks without having the original HP RECOVERY PARTITION?
I just simply can't use it anymore. I can't restore my notebook to factory condition anymore. The only option I have is to Click "FINISH" and reboot.
ive decided to go for a studio 16 xps but im stuck on which processor to get, is there noticeable differnece between the 3mb and the 6mb cache , where will i notice this type of performance increase?
My new XPS 14 is experiencing problems after going into sleep/hibernation mode.  Each time the computer goes to sleep, I get a message from Intel Rapid Storage Technology that acceleration has been disabled.  Basically, when this happens, the SSD drive becomes inaccessible and no longer recognized by the computer (disappears from device manager).  In order to get it back, I restart the computer, which brings the ssd drive back up in device manager, and then I have to disassociate the drive and re-enable acceleration after that.Dell has put in a service order to have my SSD drive replaced.
Just bought the 3521 Inspiron touch screen. Two questions:Does the touch screen require a screen protector? Many different answers. Would like your opinion! The outside cover shows fingerprints (even with clean hands). Can the outside cover be replaced to a different color or type (that doesn't show fingerprints)?
I've been looking into getting a new MacBook Pro 15" (need to have that express card slot!) and noticed that there is that some of them come with either 3MB and 6MB L2 Cache. There's a 3MB on eBay for $1299 at 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 3MB L2 Cache and 320GB Hard Drive. And on Apple.com, there's a refurb at $1599 for 2.66Ghz, 4Gb RAM, 6MB L2 Cache and 320GB hard drive.
Which one is more worth it and does the 3MB and 6MB make that much of a difference?
I just bought a lenovo G500 59-390085 laptop and installed windows 7. It is supposed to have 8GB of ssd for caching but I cant see it either in the bios or in the disk managment. I tried to make it work with Intel Rapid Store technology, where I see only the main hard disk, and it also needs to make it RAID instead of AHCI so I thought that changinh that in the bios would solve the problem, but there is no such option, only AHCI and "compatible". Ιs there a chance that the ssd drive is not connected? Also, this is the message on express cache when I tried to reinstall it. URL....
my express cache doesn't seem to be working. i've recently had to format my laptop, ive got it all back working and installed the latest express cache software, everytime i run ECCMD.EXE -INFO from ele.exe i just keep getting the following:  Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:Windowssystem32>eccmd -info ExpressCache Command Version 1.3.110.0 Copyright® 2010-2013 Condusiv Technologies. Date Time: 7/7/2014 0:34:31:581 (JAMES-THINK #0)
I just purchased a HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 200gb 16mb cache hard drive for my 1710 from ZipZoomfly.com for $233.00 with 2 day shipping if anyone is interested, that was the best price I could find.
I am considering a new laptop. The HP I am consdering has ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics with 128MB cache memory. The other I am considering is the Samsung R580 which has a smaller screen, smaller battery, but 512MB dedicated video. Since the HP has an 8 cell, it will get beter battery life.
So, the 4200 is integrated into the AMD Turion chip, yet has 128MB memory onboard for the graphics chip whereas the Samsung has a separate GPU?
Both laptops have bluray and are within $50 of each other in price.
I have E530 with 1TB disk and 16GB mSSD disk, which is partioned in 2 partitions. Now, I suspect Express Cache is using it somtimes, but I never see any usage from it in Task Manager. Task Manager Screengrab. However, sometimes Express Cache goes nuts on my HD, doing the opposite of what it is supposed to be doing Resource Monitor Showing Express Cache thrashing my HD  However, it seems to be doing something, sometime. I suspect it is from rebooting, but I rarely reboot my computer, so I'm not gaining much from it. I just formatted that mSATA drive and perhaps put the windows swap file and perhaps other cache folders there? I always feel that the disk I/O is the bottleneck of this computer, it feels slow when accessing the disk.
Lenovo U410 comes with 24 GB SSD and 500 GB HDD. Lenovo claims that they use some express cache to get faster speed during bootup and opening apps. Â Lenovo recommends clean install of ideapad system while upgrading to windows 8.
link:  My problem: As I am doing clean install , I want to delete LENOVO partition. The technical support guy also told me in phone that I can delete the partition and create my own.  But how will I use ssd and hdd? In my laptop, the windows OS was installed in 500 GB hdd and 24 GB ssd was used for some "express cache" .  But if I delete all the partition, how will I configure such that 24 gb ssd is used? Because lenovo does not provide any software named "express cache"  in their site.  BUT they provide "Intel Rapid start, Intel rapid storage"  So does these rapid start and storage use 24 GB ssd aand improve my boot time?
Lenovo Ideapad U410,Ruby Red Color i5 processor,4 GB ram,1 GB nvidia 610M GPU,24GB SSD,500GB HDD.
On my first windows install on my Zbook 17, the OS installed the System Reserved partition on the flash cache SSD. I figured I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1tb SSD. I removed all HDDs and the flash cache, installed the OS, then turned off the computer and re-installed the flash cache. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 blinks on the caps/num lock along with a lovely black screen.
According to [URL] ..., Dell M4300 laptop bought several years ago might include Flash Cache Module. Dell BIOS allows to enable FCM. Is there a way to check whether the module is actually installed w/o physically opening up the laptop? What part number or name might it have in System Configuration on Dell Support web-site? It shows that the laptop was shipped with 200GB SATA HDD (part no WT611 - [URL] ...., but there are no components listed with "FCM" or "flash" in their names.
Id like to remove the 32gb msata Cache drive in my laptop so that i can upgrade it to a 250gb 840 for use as another storage device.  I know how to physically remove the msata from the laptop i just dont know what i have to do before i do that.  Can i just simply physically remove the drive and reinstall the drivers saved on it to my HDD or is there other things that need to be done first like disabling intel RST. Dear Friends can u give me your valuable suggestions , is this good system or worth for money? I'd like to do some gaming, definitely video editing/production and watch movies.
Also... typical office apps, and photo manipulation, program compilation, dot net program development . I like to keep my hardware for five years, buying the best available architecture, but not necessarily the top of the line in performance.
I am hoping to buy an HP Envy 15 j102saI want to fit an mSATA SSD as well as the hard drive1. Does this model have a free mSATA bay?2. Is it possible to boot off the SSD and will it require a boot loader from the HDD?
I have the Lenovo Y400 laptop with Intel Core I-7 processor and Nvidia Geforce 650M Graphics chip. Â The laptop came with windows 8 and is now running windows 8.1 At the time of purchase I opted to go for a model with a standard HDD and no MSATA SSD for caching.
I have recently purchased a 128 GB "My Digital SSD - Bulletproof 4" MSATA SSD and installed it.
I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and it shows the drive, but does not give me any options for acceleration or caching.
Based on my research so far, it seems I need to enable RAID mode in the BIOS (SATA setting is currently at AHCI).
The only other option shown is to change it to "compatibility mode" which it identifies as IDE.
Is there a way to switch the BIOS to RAID mode so I can use my MSATA SSD for caching without having to reinstall windows?
In my HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15-4010nr notebook there are 1 HDD and 1 SSD (30GB). The SSD was used for acceleration in Intel Rapid Storage initially.  But I reseted it to Available  in Intel Rapid Storage and now I cannot “Enable acceleration” again, because there is no such a command in the program’s interface – it only shows disk information at “Status” and “Manage”, but no commands at all (except Acivate LED).Â
I've got a new Dell XPS 15 four days ago. I've been having a lot of issues with its internal mSSD drive. The model I ordered has a regular 1TB hard disk and a 128 SSD. I was quite surprised to discover that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (that allow faster data access by using the SSD as cache) is not enabled by default. I tried to enable it but no success. An "unknown error" message box showed up when I attempted to do so. That was really strange, considering that the only thing that I've done so far in my computer was installing MS Office and Google Chrome.I contacted the tech support three days ago and I was told to reset my computer to factory default and try again. After a long wait for system restoration I enabled the acceleration mode in the Intel Rapid Storage software.
Everything proceeded according to expected, but when I rebooted my computer it failed to detect any bootable device. I can't even access the system restoration by pressing F8 during initialization now. especially when we consider that this shouldn't be happening in a premium $1,999 model. Also, shouldn't this KEY feature (caching with SSD) be enabled out of the box?
I've been watching the order on Dell's site all week, as it was scheduled to ship (on or before today) (2/21/08), and I opted for Next Day shipping.
When I placed the order, the woman I spoke with asked for my Service Tag number. I, um... don't HAVE one... I didn't say this, I simply said I don't have that information at the moment. She asked how I got the part numbers, and I told her from their own Spare Parts page.
Well....the order got cancelled today. Saw it online while at work, just before I left for the day. Another order number with the identical items was created, with a scheduled ship date of 3/3/08. WHAT?
The woman just called....she states they cannot process my order without a service tag number. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
I told her I don't have a tag number....she asked if I was building one. "Yes." To which I hear...
"Oh....well, I don't think our supplier will allow that without a service tag number, because we reserve those parts for people who bought m1710's."
I said "That's amazing...because I know a number of people who have done the same thing I'm trying to do, and had no problems getting these parts."
"Well, that's because they have m1710's"
*mad enought to scream at this point* "Um, no...where do you think I got the idea from?? I'm certainly not the first person to have this idea."
how I can get them to sell me some refurbished plastics? What's the secret password?
My new Studio XPS 1640 appears to have a bad WiFi card. It is very difficult to get it to connect to the network, and it has fits where it drops contact.
So, I contacted XPS tech support. After doing the usual opening questions, they have proceeded as follows:
1) I was assigned an XPS tech and given their specific telephone information so that they could serve as single point of contact.
2) I was told "we will own this issue and get it resolved".
3) They then set an appointment to speak to me when I had sufficient time to do things like driver changes and trying to reseat the minicard. We performed those steps Monday night.
4) After the reset they wanted me to use it heavily on network for at least 24 hours with them checking in to determine if the issues were still present. Unfortunately they were.
5) At this point, the initial diagnosis was Dell was going to send a tech to replace the minicard, antenna and the motherboard (going a bit overboard?). I agreed and the tech was scheduled.
6) 45 minutes later my tech called. She had discussed the situation with her supervisor and they wanted instead to replace THE ENITRE LAPTOP. So, they are now doing a new XPS 1640 built to the same specs as the original. It will be shipped to me and I am simply to put the original in the box and have Fedex come get it .......
